Caring and wonderfully kind, we found a stray cat that had been hit by a car, sadly they couldn't save him but I know they have him a warm and safe place to pass on.

I am giving three stars due to the fact that while they have helped people with foster care of a beloved animal while the owner tries to overcome domestic violence (speaking from a survivor view) they don't help as much as they did in 2017. As in before they got their new facility they were more about helping an individual. I just got a new puppy in Dec 2021 and went there to see about getting my dog spayed and get shots. In Jefferson county the humane society will spay or neuter an animal for 50 bucks so I assumed all humane society should have same policy considering the whole motto ,"have your pet spayed or neutered." and they flat out said we only do that if the animal is being adopted out... Was very disappointed to hear that considering how big and nice the new facility is. With that being said they did help foster my dog out while I was in a safe house due two domestic violence so for that I do appreciate that that is why I give them three stars.

From what I experienced, humane society is so wonderful. It’s where I adopted my first pet on my own which was a cat named Cosmo here, but I renamed him Noodle! The adoption process was thorough but not too complex. I had called and emailed so many other adoption centers and almost all only accepted applications from the same city ): but everything happened I believe to send me here to adopt my sweet baby! They were clear about his current condition of having feline leukemia but I was hopeful and confident as they explained, there was a very tiny chance it could pass from his system and he would no longer have it. After taking him to the vet to get his necessary shots as the months went buy and lots of prayer and belief, the few tests he has taken to check the presence of FELV had cleared and he continued to test negative! Aside from a perfect miracle in his health, Noodle is the perfect cat for me and I loved getting to raise him so far from about 2 months old. He is now almost 8 months old and as wonderful as ever. He’s playful, the biggest cuddle bug, so funny, and a great companion in daily task and adventure! He loves being around people and is very social. He’s curious and gentle. I’ve taken him on a flight, on hikes(he likes his harness and walking with my sisters Australian Shepherd), in car rides, to have play dates with my sisters dog, out to go play in the park on a harness and leash, and so many other fun memories. He is my best little buddy. I’m thankful LHS took care of him until I met him and took him home. I have recommended this place by word of mouth to friends, family, co workers and customers and would absolutely come back in the future myself! Thank you for the best cutie cat ever!

It was easier to like when it was a no kill shelter, but they do have a fancy new building.

Wonderful layout for these beautiful babies. The cat cubicles could be a little wider for some cats, seems constricted for them to move much. People were very nice.

I know this shelter does its best for all these babies. But they are not educated on lizard upkeep. As Ive heard their is a beardie there black and lifeless. Why not put it down? But you asking $55 rehoming fee. Not good. Also newspaper is only poisoning the beardies. Get proper heat and UV soak them several times a week calcium. I plan to stop by if I see a lizard not cared for I will take pics and call it in. Come on people do better

My mom and I fell on hard times and had to surrender our cats Felix and Fredo. Felix had become very agressive with his brother and with us. After a few attacks we decided to surrender both cats as I became extremely anxious around either of them. This was one of the hardest decisions we have ever made as we accommodated thier crazy behavior for a long time out of love. Joe, Mattie and Nathan from the Animal Control team made the experience much easier than expected, especially Nathan's calm demeanor. I miss them both terribly but truly believe they are in a better place, in heaven or eventually a new home. Thank you for caring for our animals when we no longer could. ????????

Went to surrender a dog because she killed alot of animals and they put her up for adoption and when we called about it we said we where insulting her when we asked why she wasn't surrender.

I lost my dog for nearly 5 days and they were helpful, but I have to say, I found a couple of the employees to be pretty callous. When I went in to report my dog missing, I told the intake officer that my dog had been bitten by a rattlesnake a month earlier. I couldn't believe her response. She said "IF you get her back, you should rename her 'accident prone'" I couldn't believe it. I know they're busy, but show a little compassion and empathy. On another day, I left the humane society in tears, after being treated coldly by another intake officer. For such a beautiful facility, one would expect more from the staff. Do not deal with this shelter, if at all possible.

Just got a kitten here a couple weeks ago! The staff was super friendly and upfront about any issues our kitten might have, and did a good job explaining all the paperwork and everything. Would definitely consider adopting from here!

For the last 33+ years my family has adopted all our pets from the LHS. We’ve always had a great adoption experience and I’m grateful we’ve gotten to give 6 dogs and cats their forever home over the years. I have even begun fostering kittens for LHS this year and it’s been an amazing experience. I highly recommend you sign up if you are able to. You can choose exactly the age group and type of animals you’re willing to foster so it makes the job a total joy. These people care deeply about animals - and their commitment, employees and volunteers alike, is beyond admirable. The photos I’ve included are of our current foster, Dutchie. Such a doll!

Adopt these animals as fast as you can! My cat I adopted came into the shelter at 9 pounds and left at 21. Told me that he was aggressive and that I “shouldn’t adopt him” he was there for 1 year. I asked them if they had told that to other adopters and they said yes. He was so emotionally abused from there and is the least aggressive. Save these animals!

Wind blew our front door open in the night and our dog escaped, unknown to us for several hours. Someone found him and took him here. He is chipped so they called us, and we immediately went and picked him up. They charged us $75 for housing him for a few hours! Ridiculous.

A joke of an organization that hires inept control officers that are more worried about looking cool than actually controlling animals. Officers get called out for a stray animal charging at people walking thru a neighborhood (literally running after women walking thier children), the officers show up talk to the owner (who's doing nothing except calling for the dog from their front porch) and they get within arms reach of the animal while it's laying on the ground. What do they do? Do they catch it? Noose it? Hook it? Maybe just reach out and grab it by the collar? Nope, they get back in thier van and drive away then tell dispatch that "we can't catch the dog". Dog is still on the loose, running in the street, running into people's backyards, wondering around. Maybe it gets hit, maybe it bites someone, maybe it gets into a fight with another dog, who knows but there's one thing for sure, no one at Larimer Humane Society or animal control really cares. They just write a report and pretend they "care" about animal and public safety. Apparently catching animals is not part of the job description. When asked "what do we do if it charges our children?" they casually say "we're not sure, we can't catch it, we've written a report". Our tax dollars hard at work. Don't worry though, the officers took time to put on trendy makeup and perfectly style thier hair though, so while they're completely useless at least they look good. #firstresponders #brave Additional info to add to thier joke of a response below. They were contact at 2am about the animal who was setting off security alarms. 7 hours later with no response yet they were contacted again and finally decided to respond. Whether the "professionals" who responded felt the animal was dangerous or not is irrelevant. The fact is that the animal was charging at other people, going into other people's property, and thus its owners were breaking the law.... Again, for over 7 hours this took place before they decided to address it. The animal could have easily been humanely restrained and put back into the possession of the owners but instead they drove away. Writing a ticket should be SECONDARY to the safety of the animal and the public. The animal was literally standing in the road as the officers drove away. Fix your issues. Do better. Your glass door ratings say it all.

My puppy Rue had her 1st play date and I was a little nervous because I wasn't sure how big the area to run around would be and how many other dogs would be there. Well, she just had an amazing time! I will definitely be taking her back again!!

my family gotten all of my animals through here (including 2 gerbils) and after moving out i finally decided to adopt my first cat with them. the process was easy and i ended up with the sweetest cat i could have ever imagined (even after he was placed in the pets that need patience program) named Velcro (now renamed) the animals always seem healthy and well cared for and it was wonderful being able to help these animals. I always recommend looking for your new family members here!

The staff is very loving and caring to the animals. They were very helpful and asked really good, subtle screening questions. The facility is beautiful and clean. I brought home a 9 week old puppy, Jenny. We have changed her name to Finley. She gets along great with our 2 and a half year old "puppy" Charlie. Thank you! Kim

Because of our help with the animals, we were invited to dinner. As usual the place was spotless and will run as far as we could see. Many visits over the years have verified our experience from the other night. Larimer humane society does the best job they can do, considering that it's mostly volunteer.
