On Thanksgiving my daughter’s emotional support kitty Walter suffered a saddle thrombosis. We took him to our local er and they wanted to euthanize him. After the year my daughter had- that wasn’t an option. They suggested CSU. We drove that night the 2 hours to CSU. The staff went above and beyond to save him. They were in constant communication with us and even sent pictures so my daughter could see him. He’s a one in a million cat who is still with us because of the caring vets at CSU. I was prepared for a VERY expensive bill due to the length of stay and acute care needed- to my surprise it was several thousand less than I was expecting.

I had to bring in my bunny Pepper in to urgent care on very short notice today because I noticed she was beginning (or had already gone into) GI stasis, which can be very deadly if untreated. All of the emergency vets in my area were either closed since it was a Sunday, or they did not take rabbits. When I called the ER here they were so kind and immediately willing to take her even though they were really busy today, as they knew not many emergency vets will see rabbits because they are considered exotics. They saw her quickly despite being busy and sent me home with some medications and food to help treat her. She is already doing so much better and starting to eat a little more on her own again. I am so happy with the quality of care they gave my Pepper, and the doctors, vet students, and other staff here were so amazing and understanding, even after I asked a million and one questions. I would highly recommend bringing your kiddos here.

This place has been the most amazing and considerate place we've ever taken our pets to. Everyone we have talked with has taken WAY MORE time to explain themselves and their findings, in detail to my wife and I than other places we have visited (which also charged more). They have addressed our concerns and answered our questions in a detailed and friendly manner. They have gone out of their way to make our pet's care as affordable as can be and I am extremely grateful to them for all of it; I really couldn't ask for more. They genuinely care for our pet and have shown their compassion in many ways. Thank you.

I have so many wonderful things to say about Dr. Chris, Raj, and his team! They were so patient with the hundreds of questions I had, and they were able to perform life saving surgery on my puppy for an affordable cost. I am so incredibly grateful for them, and I don’t think I could write a review to do them justice. Thank you so much for taking care of my precious Gnocchi!

Excellent emergency care. Very caring. Enthusiastic student vets and their supervising DVM did an excellent job with my pet. Emergency surgery and several nights in. Someone called me daily, often more than once to update me. Wonderful facility. Fort Collins is blessed to have this facility.

They have always done good work on my dogs, warranting 4 stars, but the customer service gets 0 stars. Dealing with this bureaucracy is a Kafka-esque nightmare. Worse than any government agency. Students rotate through positions weekly, meaning you will be answering the same questions endlessly and nobody knows what is going on. They will call you from blocked numbers and leave no way to return a call except through the horrific reception service. You'd be better off with your local vet. The price will be the same and you'll get human treatment.

I would like to give a big shout-out and thank you to Dr. Forbes, John Fischer, Dr. Mullens, and the other livestock doctors who worked miracles on our five-month-old piglet. I took my piglet to a vet close to home to get spay, and when we brought her home, she started to throw up what appeared to be fecal matter, was not interested in drinking or eating, which is very unusual. From the moment I called CSU, to the moment I dropped her off, Dr. Mullen's stayed in constant communication with me every hour and with every update or turn. Dr. Forbes and her team performed emergency GI Surgery that same night and gave me a call as soon as the surgery was over, which was close to midnight. The team and faculty at CSU are incredible in their knowledge and care with both the patients and family members. I'm not convinced that my piglet would be alive today if it weren't for the quick actions of the CSU faculty. I can't thank them enough. You have made me a believer in myself, and have gained a new lifelong patient. Thank you, Dr. Mullens, Dr. Forbes, and the rest of Tootsie's care team.

My cat got cancer and they were so caring and knowledgable. He is still being treated there and unlike my vet embraced that I wanted to do chemo. The cancer he has is treatable and they are walking me through it, always there to answer my questions. I trust them with his care.

My kitty was brought here a few nights ago because she ate a hair tie that was too thick for her to pass without possible obstruction. We originally took her to another ER but they would not help us make an educated decision and basically convinced us to put her under the knife and be opened up to get it out. We found out she may have a heart condition so we opted out and called everywhere to see if there was a less invasive option. After about 5 phone calls, I reached out to CSU and they were so incredibly kind and got us in as soon as we could get there. They hospitalized her overnight and gave us our options, all while being patient and informing us of everything we needed to know. We ended up getting an endoscopy done on her and all went well and she is back to normal and a happy little camper. They were so amazing to both us and our kitty, and we ended up spending far less money here than if we used the other ER (who gave us non urgent care fees which were still $4k estimate). They had a whole team ready to care for her and the front office staff was so patient with me when I was trying to get the financials figured out. Dr. Fukushima was great and helped our sweet girl get the care she needed, along with all of the other staff (whom I've forgotten their names, but all of them were absolutely amazing). I highly recommend going here if you need surgery or any procedure done on your pet ( if it's not incredibly urgent if you are far away). These guys were fantastic. Thank you, CSU team. (Attached a photo of our girl, Eury :) )

Wednesday night we came home to discover our 13 yo dog had broken his leg. When we brought him in everyone we spoke to was very professional and caring. Dr. Diaz has an incredible bedside manner. When he initially came out to talk to us he walked us through all of our options, we then discussed the health issues our dog had and with recovery what that would mean for his quality of life. We made the very difficult decision to put our boy to sleep. Once we made our choice the staff did what they could to make us comfortable and allowed us to have as much time as we needed. Their compassion was a light in a very dark night.

They were extremely sweet when my poor kitty was hit by a car. They even called days later to see how I was holding up and sent me a paw print keepsake. I did have some questions regarding a billing issue but it was cleared up.

Our dog had emergency gall bladder surgery and then lump/lung and now cancer treatment. The cost of the first surgery was equal to just the urgent care place close to my home that didn’t even do a surgery - so was actually pretty happy with their costs. I feel their pricing is very fair for surgery. The doctors have been incredible. The communication efforts incredible. The discussions of quality of life have been reassuring, honest and supportive. The students are top notch. Medical care is incredible. Only complaint is billing. They are always busy and you need to pay before you can leave with your pet. So you get stuck ready to pick up but can’t speak to someone to pay. I could give billing many options that could alleviate this issue. It’s very frustrating. Update: wonderful Anna in billing changed my view!!

The Dr.’s, Staff and Students at CSU Veterinary Hospital are second to none. Pets are Family and that is the way your pet it treated. They also do an outstanding job of keeping you informed on the treatment process and recovery. We had our dog Knuckles in for TPLO (torn ligament surgery). When we got home (South Dakota) we were called almost daily by Dr. Duerr or a staff member to check on his progress. We were also given a tour of the Hospital, while the Veterinary Medicine field is continually evolving CSU is state of the art in animal care. The day we were there a Surgeon from a human Hospital was visiting to look at the state of the art operation rooms CSU has. He was researching how they could improve the equipment they had at his hospital. The lines between animal care and human care in the Medical Field is narrowing quickly. I Highly recommend CSU Veterinary Hospital for the very best care your pet could ever receive, they are family.

I absolutely love this veterinary teaching hospital! They are so compassionate about their patients, and they do their best to get each animal the care they need. This is a world class veterinary hospital, and I would highly recommend it to anybody that is concerned about their pet.

Our dog developed a very aggressive brain tumor. Our vet in Salt Lake City said his only chance at life extension was radiation and for that, CSU was the best place. Five days later, we were in Ft Collins and radiation treatment was planned and executed over a ten day period. The vets believe this has probably extended our dog's life 1-2 years. ALL of the vets and techs we met in our ten day stay were highly professional, caring and communicative. Their services aren't cheap, but our dog is worth the cost. We are highly impressed by our experience with the CSU vet school

The absolute best emergency & specialized vet services around. I know my dog is in the best hands when with them.

I would only suggest this place if it’s a SERIOUS emergency. You’re going to pay at least triple of what you would at any other location, will have a large wait time, and it’s going to take much longer than any other place. After my terrible experience I had to go back to get a refund as they charged me for the cremation of my dog…who was well and very much alive upon discharge. The amount of attitude I got from the receptionist was ridiculous for a mistake that was fully on the business. With such a large name these guys should be doing exemplary work, but truly it’s quite the opposite, lazy, uncommunicative, and all around unprofessional service. There are much better places that give you quality service at a much lower price and will refrain from trying to tack on additional unnecessary services during every visit. I’d look elsewhere before considering this place ever again.

If it were possible to give the people at the JL Voss VTH more stars, I would! Dr. Del Nero and Sara Crisler are incredible humans. We will be forever grateful for their expertise and compassion. Our puppy, Pearl, was referred to the VTE by our veterinarian in another state. Other veterinarians at home gave our pup little hope of survival past her first year. From the moment we contacted the VTH and spoke with CJ, we were treated with kindness and compassion. At J. L. Voss VTH, Pearl was evaluated by Dr. Del Nero. That afternoon, she was taken to the Cath lab where her heart defect was completely corrected. She will now live a normal, happy life with her grateful family. Sara Crisler, the 4th year veterinary student, and Dr. Bruna Del Nero treated us, and Pearl, with extraordinary kindness and compassion. They took time to call us multiple times during the evaluation, treatment, and recovery process. They carefully explained their assessment and plan, answered all our questions, and reassured us our beloved puppy was well cared for. We will be forever grateful. Thank you most sincerely to Sara and Dr. Del Nero, CJ and all the VTH team. NOTE!!! We've seen reviews complaining about the cost of services. We were given a REASONABLE and accurate estimate for the cost of treatment. It is unrealistic to expect the benefit of phenomenal knowledge and skill for bargain basement prices.

First time we took one of our ferrets there, they sent him home after 5 hours saying he was just sore. Next day he ended up having to get an emergency splenectomy at his regular vet because he was bleeding into his abdomen. The second time which was a week ago, our other ferret vomited three times and they tried to get us to do $4,000-$6,000 exploratory surgery or to have us euthanize him. Went to his regular vet a week later and they said he is okay- not nearly ready to be euthanized. What was put on the paperwork didn't match what we were told in person or what the radiology report said. Thankfully we didn't listen and went to follow up with his regular vet or he would be dead.

I'm very disappointed in the findings of what is going on w/my dog, WHICH ACCORDING TO CSU was nothing. He sounds like his chest is full of mucus all the time and I ended paying $800 for them to tell me not a @#%&! thing. I don't recommend them at all, but I do hope that who ever decides to take their dog to this "TEACHING UNIVERSITY" receives better care than my dog did!!!!

This place is a world-class veterinary hospital. There are maybe only a couple institutions like this in the United States. The doctors and their staff moved very quickly from the moment we dropped our sick cat off after we transferred her via referral from a smaller animal hospital which was underequipped to make a diagnosis. The facility itself appears like it could be hospital for a small city in its own right. Diagnostic work was impressive and included full metabolic lab tests and ultrasound imaging. She had to have emergency surgery and doctors were excellent about explaining their plans/reasoning along with the potential risks and complications. The team leadership included a staff veterinarian, a CSU faculty vet, and a Veterinary student who contacted us every few hours with an update. We were required to pay a deposit which was a supermajority of the final total. I am personally grateful we did not have to discuss the financial implications much because we were able to cover the costs. I understand others complaints However I feel like the hospital has to have a strict protocol in order to succeed as such a technically advanced organization especially so that people can be treated in an equitable way each time. As someone who has seen many bills for other veterinary surgery in the past, the pricing was competitive with smaller, lesser equipped facilities which was a pleasant surprise. All of this happened on July 5th; a federal holiday. They saved my little two-year-old cat from what seemed like a hopeless situation. If you live in Colorado then this is easily the best in the state.

having a ferret with a diagnosed (unspecified) neurological disorder, i unfortunately frequent this hospital at odd hours of the night quite a bit. my little dude is always thoroughly taken care of, the students are kind, and as such- i won’t take him elsewhere in an emergency. the only difficulty i have with this hospital has been the pricing. make sure you set a limit to how much you want to spend, and stick to it. it’s very pricey. but again, i trust the students and doctors, and wouldn’t go elsewhere.

CSU vet hospital was great pre-COVID. They saved the life of my sun conure when she almost died from salpingitis in the middle of the night. Unfortunately, they subscribe to the notion that animals aren't as important as humans and can therefore be sent in and examined without the owners. Parents would never be expected to wait in the car while their non-verbal children were examined. As a result, information was not conveyed correctly (as evidenced by incorrect documentation and history in the notes I received). Most recently, I drove from Denver when my sun conure was lethargic, losing weight, and not eating (after rapidly becoming blind). I even called first to be sure they thought I should bring her in. And they told me they could refill her antibiotic that was expired and her primary vet told me to restart. When it was clear the technician wasn't understanding the history (and cut me off before I could provide it all), I asked to speak with the vet before she was examined. The response was very rude, "Do you want to be seen? If so, this is how it works." And they proceeded to call the on-call exotic vet before I was even allowed to speak to the urgent care vet. They did give her sub-q fluid and told me to follow-up with exotics (in a week or so), while reminding me to "be realistic" because she is old. They couldn't even draw blood, and they told me an avian vet would have to prescribe the antibiotic. Fortunately, she has a wonderful primary vet, Dr. LaBonde, and she is doing much better now. She is old - she is 26, but that doesn't mean I need to neglect basic care that can improve her quality of life.

I took my animal here for a few different concerns that our normal vet could not test for. The wait for an appointment was over a month, but they ended up squeezing us in sooner after adding me to a cancellation list. After telling me some differential diagnoses and explaining how to test for them, I agreed to the costs. The doctor and her student told me we would have all the results minus the culture by the end of the day. My animal was there from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm, and we had 1 result, which was just a radiograph. I was told we would get updates after each test, and we got none at all. I had to call them at 4:00 (because that’s when she was supposed to be done) to get the first update. In all of this time, I got to speak to our doctor 1 time. The rest was through her med student, who was great, however obviously did not have much to tell us as he is a student. I paid the $840 bill and took my animal home. A few days went by with no call about her blood work or culture (culture to be expected as they quoted me 3-5 days) so I called. The doctor was unavailable so they had to send her a message. She called me later in the day to tell me her diagnosis, which can be severe in other cases but not in my animal’s. She prescribed IM antibiotics and allowed me to have them shipped to me so I didn’t miss anymore work due to their business hours. Several more days passed after that before I got a call to pay for the antibiotics. I paid and confirmed my address. I got a facebook message today from someone who said they had my package with my name but her address on it. We compared addresses and they are not similar in any way except for the same city. I now have to drive to pick them up from her house, and am hoping they weren’t sitting out all day since they need to be frozen. I would not bring my animal to this hospital again.

My 13 year old retriever mix had a sudden onset of EXTREME itchy skin. She was tearing at her fur, biting, etc. She started vomiting bile with clumps of hair in it which really concerned me. I had given her an oatmeal bath, checked for fleas, ticks, etc. Gave her chlorphenaramine (antihistamine) to help with the itch. Nothing helped. So went to urgent care at CSU because I was concerned about exposure to something harmful, a thyroid issue, etc. They are still on "curbside" assistance due to Covid, so I dropped her off. She spent three hours there, I got a bill for $168, and a note later in the day via email that no one in dermatology was available to look at her. So they suggested I find ANOTHER dermatologist online at a DIFFERENT facility and have someone look at her. OMG!! Seriously? Took you 3 hours to say you didn't have anyone to help her?? A GENERAL practice vet couldn't give an opinion, and possibly suggest another med to help calm her down, or run some blood work???? She's absolutely in agony tonight. Can't sleep. Can't even sit still long enough to urinate in the yard. Are you people so "specialized" now that no one can help an animal? I think you've all lost sight of the reason you practice medicine.

The experience I had here at CSU is just unmatched to any experience I've had with an ER in the past. The compassion and honesty are something I appreciate so much. Dr. Sarah Michalak was one of the best doctors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. She made me feel like my opinion mattered and made me feel like I was apart of his treatment plan before deciding anything. Unfortunately, together we did decide humane euthanasia was the best option for my kitty, Milano. Dr. Michalak was so empathetic toward Milano and I, I really just can't thank her and the whole CSU team for making such a difficult time more bearable with the incredible medical care available at CSU along with the compassion given throughout the whole process. Thank you all so much!

My dog had a laparoscopic spay through Community health at CSU at the end of June. A licensed vet was in the room for the surgery and a student did the spay. She did a great job with only two little incisions. She kept me posted on my dog’s condition both before and after surgery. I felt the price was extremely reasonable and my dog never acted like she had just had surgery. I like the collaboration at a teaching hospital, I feel that can lead to better outcomes.

My experience was awesome, the Doctor and Assistant kept me informed during my Horses stay. All were friendly and showed compassion. My Horse had a pretty abrasive surgery and he was taken care of very well, which made it easier for me. His surgery was successful, I'm very thankful.

Expensive but excellent for 24 hour emergency services. Staff is professional and compassionate and their knowledge base is phenomenal. Also offers a regular daytime clinic that rivals a vet office for fees and convenient appointments. Altho it's a bit of a drive for us, we were extremely grateful that we could take our pet here. An amazing resource for the community. Bring your mask, as they are still asking humans to wait outside, and call ahead so they know you're on your way.
