Best individuals that work there and have always put their customers first and foremost with how they operate a business. Best place in Madison

This has to be the rudest vet’s office I’ve ever dealt with. They clearly do not want any new clients. They do not care about animals. The receptionists treat you like you’re bothering them and they are the only vet in town. They complain how they are too busy and there is a vet shortage… get over yourselves. You are so rude that you’ll be losing clients left and right soon.

I started going to A Breed Apart with my new puppy about 2 years ago. The vets were amazing, but the checkout process was challenging as I was paying, juggling my pup, and trying to ingest a number of verbal instructions, including the responsibility to call back in at a later date, make another appointment, and come back in for a second round. I apparently misunderstood and at a later date was made to feel bad for not calling back and scheduling another appointment; had to start the antibiotics all over again. I've had a few terse interactions with Reception since then, but haven't worried about it too much until we got our new pup last year. She is much higher anxiety and we always feel shamed by the front desk because she can be antsy and loud. Most recently I was being given another set of verbal instructions, while paying and juggling two dogs now, and the receptionist kept stoping mid-instruction to close her eyes and sharply inhale until my dog stopped whining. It only prolonged a stressful environment, and I felt bad for my dogs and not confident that I understood the instructions. My boyfriend called in last week (7/21 a.m.) to try and confirm an appointment that they had no record of (everything is paper-logged still?), and the conversation basically ended with him being told "Well, I don't know what to tell you". We've witnessed them talking to other customers like this quite a bit. At this point we decided it was time to go elsewhere. We're just too busy and life can be stressful as is, we don't have time for this type of reception. I would recommend Google Calendar and Gmail, proactively schedule appointments (with instructions) right then and there, and explore the tenets of Customer Success with your front desk employees (empathy, understanding the industry, and keeping the end goal in mind). To reiterate, we adore the vets and other staff.

You can tell the vets here really care about their work and the animals they work with. The same is true for all the vet techs and front desk staff. Even though they're busy (a good sign!) they did their best to accommodate my schedule. Dr. Karen did a lot to help with behavioral and physical treatments for my dog, and talked me through everything so I was comfortable. I'm very grateful for them and the work they do!

When we started our dogs here we enjoyed our experiences, but unfortunately we have decided to move them elsewhere due to poor interactions with front desk staff. I understand that they’re busy and stressed, but they left us feeling like we were the problem after many of our conversations—they were condescending and pretty terse with us. This was not a communication issue, nor an issue due to being busy: when I call because I’m worried about my dog and need some advice, I would appreciate just a touch of empathy. I don’t need you to roll out the red carpet for me, but understand your tone and the sensitive nature with which you’re dealing. Thank you.

Breed Appart has been caring for our Cocker Spaniels for two decades. They've been there from puppyhood to the inevitable day we have to say goodbye.

Dr. Washabaugh and her team are phenomenal - from the beginning through the end, the A Breed Apart team care for the whole - animals and humans with care, compassion and dignity. All of the dogs and humans in our house appreciate knowing A Breed Apart is there for us with the skills and knowledge we need to keep our dogs safe and healthy.

I can't say enough good things about A Breed Apart. I drive an hour to this clinic even though there are two clinics in my town and one of those is walking distance from my house. If you are shopping around for a veterinary clinic, you really should try this one.

Doctors are great but front of house staff often have a rude and judgmental tone in my experience. I’ll gladly drive further away for respectful & kind service.

Best choice I made for my dog! I was looking to have a vet in Madison for a few years. I am glad I chose this clinic. Last November, with reasonable time due to the Thanksgiving holidays, they were able to see my dog for a skin issue quite fast. This morning, Saturday, I called for an emergency and they were able to fit me in and provide the best care possible for my dog! I will definitely recommend this clinic to all of my fur parents!

We have a complex dog with multiple chronic conditions, plus anxiety, and A Breed Apart has been wonderful. Dr. Vanderloo is very knowledgeable, answers questions quickly and thoroughly, and is flexible when we need her urgently. All of the staff are very accommodating and do everything they can to make our dog comfortable during visits, which is a challenge given her anxiety. Dr. Vanderloo is compassionate to both pets and owners during challenging situations.

Wonderful vet clinic with very skilled, caring vets and vet techs. The team at A Breed Apart has taken excellent care of my family's cats and dogs for about 15 years. They always provide high quality care at reasonable prices. They will go above and beyond for your pet. If you're searching for an affordable place with dedicated staff you can trust with your pets, look no further!

This place is amazing! I am very picky on where I take my fur babies but also need something affordable and after going to four different vets over the course of 5 years, I have finally found them a medical home. Thank you to ALL the staff from the Receptionists to the Nurses & Doctors for their care and attention to detail. They are always responsive to any concerns I have and truly know how to put my mind at ease.

Was amazed at the friendly, outgoing and knowlegable staff who went out of their way to assist me. Only stopped by to buy over the counter flea product for my cat. But will be coming back

We made the very difficult decision last week to euthanize our Dachshund named Wrigley. The decision to do this did not come lightly, took us a long time, much heart ache, and conflicting feelings. When we finally came to the final choice of putting our beloved dog down we turned to your clinic for help. Dr. Vanderloo was above and beyond wonderful in assisting us in our decision, especially with preparing us about the emotions that would follow. That being said we felt comfortable moving forward with bringing our dog to your facility for the very sad task of putting him down. The initial process was simple. We were fit in the same day I called, but do to the fact that our children are young we made the difficult choice that my husband would go alone to the clinic with Wrigley. Initially he was brought into an exam room and told that Wrigley would get two injections: a sub-q injection to sedate him and then a follow up intravenous injections to complete the process. Unfortunately this as not true, and the next 12 minutes of my dogs life were nothing but peaceful. My husband sobbed as our dog thrashed, attempted to walk, whimpered and cried. He attempted to comfort him in any way possible but could see the unmistakable look of terror in our dogs eyes as Wrigley attempted to climb up my husband’s chest in despiration. What was supposed to be a peaceful passing was a traumatizing and guilt inducing time for my husband. The continued remorse that he feels will be something that he never forgets. As I write this am I also brought to tears thinking about my dog's last moments were filled with fear instead of comfort from his owner. I have spoken with family and friends about our experience, and they are in absolute shock that this is what we went through. Many said that their pets, who were euthanized, did not suffer such a terrible process. Many said that their pet was taken in another room, IV access was established, and then they were brought back to be with them as staff quietly administered the necessary medications. We are absolutely heartbroken that our experience was so poor. Moving forward we will never be returning to your clinic for our pets, despite the fact the fact that we love Dr. Vanderloo. Perhaps this will help you to change your practices so no pet owner ever has to go through what we went through.

I’ve been a client on and off (I moved away for a while!) of Dr. Claudia Meyers since she and her partner Dr. Kate Washabaugh opened their clinic. Top notch care, out-of-the-box thinking with your pets best interest at heart. They truly evaluate each pet and situation uniquely and thoughtfully, with the whole family in mind. The doctors and their associates stay current in the latest treatments and medications, you can rest assured your pets are getting the best and most current care. I completely trust A Breed Apart for the care of my pets!
