Taj Mapaw Roanoke, West Virginia

I took my 4 German Shepherds for 3 days, all with special diets & special instructions. They all had fun and did great. They have been to Taj Mapaw many times and get great care & attention.

i just read a 1 star review from another user who posts a lot of poor information about the Taj Mapaw and I can only say positive and good things about this place. This fella seems to like to repeat what others say, and I think most people call that gossip only because most gossips not true! But anyway I have found the Taj Mapaw to be very reliable and very clean. and thats why we will always use this business to care for our dogs.

Outstanding job with dog grooming. Courteous staff.

I just picked up my 2 dogs that I boarded here over the weekend. Not only was I charged significantly more than was advertised online and in their brochure, but discovered that one of my dogs had an injury (see picture). When I called back to let them know about the situation, I was dismissed by the older "gentleman" and was told to bring my dog back to be inspected. I refused because of how angry I was from the way I was talked to. I should have read the reviews. I usually do, but I trusted a referral. I won't make that mistake again. Do yourself a favor and stay far away from this place. It's disgusting, they're rude, and they clearly won't care for your dogs properly. I will NEVER be back, and they will be receiving my vet bill. Upon reading other reviews and the owner's atrocious responses, I've decided to upload a copy of my receipt to combat their favorite response of "I'm not in the database."

Great people! Great place! My dog has some anxiety issues and sometimes problem with other dogs. And they did awesome with her.

I left her here for 4 days and my sister said that when she went to pick her up she was mad skinny and scared :(

Very easy to work with and my little dude seemed to enjoy his time there. The staff got to know my pup really well in just his first visit!

I really wish I could give this place zero stars. Please do not leave any animal in the care of these people. They do not care about the animals and if you read the reviews like I failed to do you will see how many dogs have come back in the same condition as ours. Me and my fiancé had to go out of town for a week and needed somewhere to board our dog. This was the only facility was open availability key for the week that we were going to be gone. Unfortunately I did not read The reviews like I should have. If I would have read the reviews there’s no way I would have left my dog in their care. When we got back in town and picked up our dog we didn’t really notice a difference until we got back home. I guess we were just so excited to see Leo that we didn’t even slow down to examine him. Leo is a pitbull mix was a very large chest and lots of energy. When we got him we noticed not only was he acting strange by seeming very depressed and traumatized, But he also looked like he had lost a lot of weight within the time that we were gone. You could see his rib cage and he looked malnourished. So of course me and my fiancé have been taking the time to love him back to normal. One more thing that we noticed a day or two later is a bite mark on his back leg. We do not have any other dogs and he hasn’t been around any other dogs except for at Taj Mapaw. No one called or even mentioned it at the time of pick up. It is really sad that people like this can get away with something like this. That’s why I beg and plead please do not leave your pets here, please read the reviews, and please spread the word to anyone and everyone that you can.

I took my Shih-Tsu for a grooming. I think he was allergic to the shampoo, it had a big fragrance to it. The smell was nice but too strong for a puppy. The cut was okay. My roommate wasn't happy with cut but he did as I asked. Just a trim, for I wanted to keep his hair long. Not for showing though. They didn't trim his face as short as I wanted and I asked them to do a little more. He did and acted like he really didn't mind doing it. Very nice man but I never heard his name. I think we will go back one more time.

Our three dogs, Harper, Lexie, & Kylo love going here. The staff is amazing & I appreciate that they truly care about my fur babies.

I can't believe this place is still open! I have been hearing horror stories for years! From clients and past employees who are very well respected in the animal community.

First time taking my dog to be groomed. They did bathe and dry her she smelt quite good. They trimmed the nails but did not trim the side nails which were quite long . They only trimmed around her face when i asked for them to trim all over. And asked them to clean ears, but when I got her home I noticed there was still visible wax in the ears. When i called them back to say how unhappy i was for their service the girl employee replied that they had a new groomer who did terrible work and that she would pass it along to the supervisor. Very unprofessional when their own employee told me that their groomer did bad work. Those were the exact words she used. I have edited this post after seeing the owners response. I appreciate the offer for a regrooming, and might have considered coming back as I understand things happen. What was disappointing to me was the customer service and response of your employee and owner. Instead of calling and rectifying an upset customer who tried to get in contact but was brushed off by an uncaring employee. I appreciate the owner offering another grooming, but the fact that this was dealt with unprofessionaly, I will not be removing this review or consider using this service again . I am not trying to defame your company there are other people's stories and reviews that do that. I am just stating facts of what happened so other people know what to expect.

My 2 labs enjoy their time and come back home tired and content.

It was my first time being away from my dog. So they made me feel ok about his safety. The main thing he was safe and taken care of. I didn't worry to much because when I called to check on him they made me feel good about his care. Taj Mapaw

Please trust me when I say this place is great with your pets. I needed a place to board my three dogs I contacted the Taj Mapaw and they had available space for my beautiful fur babies. I took my dogs there on Friday morning before heading to work. I was provided with 9 pages to read and fill out which made me feel like this place was going all out to make certain my babies would be taken care of like I would. Oh what a great place! The following morning which was Saturday Chris called to tell me how much fun he was having with my babies and how happy he was that I brought them for him to take care of. I met another member of their staff and could see the love this woman has for animals. I really didn’t research the kennels in Roanoke and feel very lucky to have chosen one of the finest in Roanoke. I was given the information package telling me all out the Taj Mapaw. What a wonderful name. I really want to phone all my friends and let them know about this place so they won’t need to research anything. On Sunday when I arrived to pick up my fur babies I could tell they had been spoiled and taken care of like I would. So from now on I will feel great about making plans to travel because my children will always be taken care of and spoiled

Man ol man did these fellas get me out of a pickle or what? Needed a place to board my 4 dogs at the last minute for what ended up being a week as I was fighting to keep my farm from being forclusered on. Thank you Chris! Your a true buckaroo

Best place in VA. I was hesitant to board my dog due to the reviews. I came in and was able to get a tour right away. The place was clean and the dogs looked happy running around and playing. I left my dog there just for daycare to see how she would do before boarding her. When i came to pick her up she was happy. When we got home you could tell she had a good time she ate and went to sleep. We ended up boarding her for the next weekend she was so excited when we pulled up that she ran right into the building. Long story short we were very pleased with taj mapaw and will continue to use them for daycare and boarding.

I have never been to Taj Mapaw - thank you to all the fictional people who have posted. These reviews are pitiful.

I havnt used tajmapaw 1 in a while as my little one has passed but Chris and his team took care of her for over 7 years. This isnt the 1st time a bunch of slander has been said about him and it wont be the last I'm sure. I've recently started using his 2nd location and I plan to do so for many more years to come. You terrible people are missing out I feel bad for your dogs they are the true victims here

This place needs to be shut down!!!!!!!!! They leave dogs locked up alll day let them out twice a day! My dog smelled like pure urine after leaving here! And was scared the next month!!!!! This place is discussing and the owner is beyond rude!!!!!! STAY AWAY IF YOU LOVE YOUR ANIMALS EVEN A LITTLE!!!!!!!!!! DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOGS HERE! Owner is unbelievably rude and has no regard for your concern. We came home from a weekend trip on a Sunday and went to pick our dogs up (first time we’d used this place) and NO ONE was there and no one would be there for another 5 hours! So instead of being home with us, they have to be confined for another 5 hours! Once I finally got the owner on the phone to express that we wanted our dogs at home with us, he said “I was already there this morning, I’m home now. I’ll see you at 6:00. Bye” and HUNG UP ON ME! What kind of business owner is that?! Then I proceed to do in-depth research and read through reviews of this place, and they’re HORRIBLE! Report of injuries, abuse and even death of the pets that were left in the care of this establishment! Truly horrendous! I’ve already spoken with the police and the Better Business Bureau and it’s now my sole mission to see that this place is put out of business! It deserves a less than 1-star rating!

Please do not trust these people with your pets. We were in the process of moving and I needed some place quickly to board our 3 dogs because the movers were going to have every door in the house open for several days. I contacted Taj Mapaw and they had available space. I took my dogs there on Saturday morning before heading to work. I was provided the basic information forms by Tyler and informed him that they would be boarding over the weekend and that the female was ok to board with either male but the two males couldn't be left alone together. The following morning around 9a I receive a call from the owner Chris who said that Ramsey (my smaller male dog) wasn't feeling well and that he was all wet so he gave him a bath and cleaned him up and had him upfront with him. I asked him at that time if he had been with my other male dog and he said he thought so. I asked him if he needed to go to the vet or be picked up and he said I think he's fine I'll just keep him up here with me. 2 hours later I get a call that Ramsey doesn't seem to be doing any better and someone should probably come pick him up. We are out of town so I ask my son to go get him. About 20 minutes later I receive a call from Chris that they were taking Ramsey to the vet that he was having trouble breathing. My son goes directly to the vet where he is told that Ramsey had already passed when the person from Taj Mapaw brought him in. My son had to take our dog home and bury him. When I get to the place to pick up my other 2 dogs the owner has no empathy or remorse whatsoever. He actually had the nerve to say "well I won't charge you for Ramsey". He was a complete jerk. Then he told me it was my fault because I should have written it on the basic information form. EVEN THOUGH I CLEARLY TOLD HIS EMPLOYEE. I would never, ever trust anything living with those people. Negligent and careless is an understatement.
