Not a trustworthy vet practice. My boyfriend and I have been going to Heartland for almost 3 years and in the past 3 years there's been many things that have been "miscommunicated" which leads to money loss on our end. I always ask for an estimate and have done so since the start and recently I asked for a estimate for our new puppy and on the estimate it said the rabies was at no additional cost. However, when I actually took him to get the shot, we were charged for rabies. I asked why, when on the estimate it seemed like it was included and the tech said that the estimate was based on a wellness plan which was around $47 a month for our puppy. However, we never have had a wellness plan for any of our pets and on our other estimates it wasn't based on having a wellness plan. So, there should have been no reason why the estimate was based on a wellness plan. If I would've been given a correct estimate or told PRIOR to getting the shots of the actual cost, I would've taken my puppy to the multiple different places that do rabies shots for FREE! Also this past week I was ordering heart worm preventatives and was told I shouldn't order 6 months of x weight because my puppy will grow over. So I asked them what to do and they said to order 1 or 2 months of x weight and then order the bulk amount for the weight that he'll actually be. So I asked if could order the 1 month single dose and the bulk dose amounts all now and the techs said yes they would approve it. But, my order got cancelled so I called and asked why and they then tried to state that the "notes" that they had of the conversation said to order a single dose and then re-weigh every month and buy it monthly. This was so frustrating because I was told something completely different by their other techs and today they were trying to make it seem like I was the one who was in the wrong and trying to explain why they can't approve it ahead of time (which I understood from the beginning but I was told something different so I was trying to do what they told me). More recently we took our puppy back for an emergency and they tried to charge us $500 but we then told them we can only pay x amount and they magically took out things that weren’t deemed as necessary to do. Not professional and there's obviously a lack of communication among the techs and doctors to the customers. Besides these more recent issues there has been a multitude of other things that are concerning. We won't be going here again.

Very caring and loving people. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do to save our sweet Felix but we deeply appreciate the people at Heartland for their care and respect for our sweet boy.

Everyone at Heartland is caring and knowledgeable. They have helped me through many things with my cat, and I have felt confident in everything they do each time I've needed to work with them. We have had help from both Dr. Hunt and Dr. Beach, and appreciate them tremendously.

I've been taking my dog her for about a year now. They're OK, and maybe other providers are OK. But I'll talk about my experiences with Dr. Hunt. For just general puppy vaccines, no particular health or behavior issues she was fine. But when I started having problems with my dog compulsively eating stuff off the ground, she had some odd suggestions, including using bitter apple spray all over the ground before the walk, then going back and taking my dog out. When I mentioned my dog doesn't mind the taste of bitter apple spray, she suggested I pepper spray the ground before the walk. Wow. Later on when I was having issues with excessive barking, she suggested doggy daycare first, and when I said that probably wouldn't work well because my dog doesn't get along well with other dogs, her SECOND suggestion was to REHOME my dog. Wow! I was so shocked. That should be the last resort, not the second option. Finally, they charge really marked up prices for heartworm and flea meds. I asked for a price quote and they readily gave it to me and it certainly seemed to me that it was implied I could just come pick it up whenever. I found the same meds at much lower prices at Petco online. But they needed to call and get permission from your vet before the order could be shipped. Petco said my request was declined, because if I want meds, my dog needs a physical with them first. What a cash grab! I have to buy the marked up meds from them, and if I try to buy cheaper somewhere else, they'll make me go in and pay for a physical exam first, negating any savings I might have had. It's really a genius way to force your clients to buy your meds at super high prices. But wow that just sits bad with me.

Heartland Veterinary Clinic has been absolutely amazing for my boy Tige. I have a schedule that changes from day to day and it's difficult to schedule anything in. I called on the phone and their receptionist was amazing! She was able to make room in their schedule for his rabies shot and got us in very quickly. The veterinarians are always very kind and you can tell they truly care about your fur babies as much as you do. We will definitely be coming back to Heartland!

Dr. Hunt was very nice and knowledgeable. Prices were a bit high. $19 to trim back claws on my cat was outrageous. $89 to recheck cats blood pressure is outrageous.

While a bit pricey, it is worth the money to take your pets here for exceptional service, pet care and compassion. I have taken my fur babies here for years and they even took care of a botched cremation done by another vet for one of my friends (which was truly traumatic for her, but Heartland's compassion helped to soften the blow).

The staff and veterinarians are all wonderful. They obviously love animals. I really like the fact that there are separate areas for cats and dogs. I also like the choice of doing a wellness plan, ask about it! Love these guys!!!

I had a bad experience at another vet, and on the day my fur baby was supposed to have a follow up at that place, Heartland was able to get us in same day. Then when she needed surgery, they were able to rework their schedule and get her in that same week, to accommodate my schedule. They have always returned calls promptly and seem to genuinely care for her. They called a few days after the surgery to check on her. While it's more expensive than other vets in the area, my fur baby seemed comfortable and calm in their care...unlike the place we'd left to go to Heartland, where she didn't even want to go in the door.

They have always taken great care of my pets. They were the only office willing to work in my male cat who was blocked and on limited time several years ago. Now he's an old man in renal failure but Heartland Vet still provides his care.

I brought my bengal cats in to get spayed, I live in Texas but am in town for the summer. I grew up in hburg and this vet spayed one of my cats 20 years ago and we had the best experience ever. She never had a saggy stomach like other cats after being fixed and her incision was barely visible and healed amazing, so I brought my 2 new fur babies here again as I had a wonderful experience so long ago. They took exception care, they explained everything and put me at ease, they really care about their patients. They sent them home with pain meds too. I love that they followed up the next day to check how they were doing. I am glad we came here when we did and they were taken care of by such a great team. My babies are healing very well post op.

My guy was in pain and they were able to see him that day, turned out to be a disc problem in his neck. They put him on pain killers and muscle relaxers. He was feeling better the same day. Love them and travel 35 minutes to see them.

My experience with Heartland was not favorable. My beloved Marla was sent home, with a diagnosis of "just overweight" by Dr. Arneson when in reality Marla was underweight, diabetic and suffering from Cushing's disease. During Marlas decline, Heartland was happy to charge me between 200 and 400 dollars per visit while doing literally nothing to improve Marlas health or quality of life. Dr. Arneson saw Marla just weeks before his passing, sent Marla home AGAIN with only good news and charged me 275 dollars to do so. The following week I paid another 350 dollars for another visit because Marla was in such poor condition. This visit, like all the others yielded no improvement. I felt that I was taken advantage of and that my precious loved one was treated as nothing more than a paycheck. Not to mention that I never once had contact with any of Marlas vets at Heartland outside of a phone call. I never saw the face of the people who were supposedly caring for Marla. Even considering the circumstances of Covid-19, this is utterly ridiculous. This experience has left me angry and the grief of the loss even heavier because Marla wasn't given the care that he deserved. Shame on Heartland Veterinary Clinic. In loving memory of Marla, my baby and my best friend.

My daughter's cat ate a lily which is apparently one of the most poisonous flowers for a cat. I called several vets in the Harrisonburg area and no one was able to help us. They were booked, seriously I'm not asking for a nail clip, this was an emergency. When I called Heartland the receptionist put me on hold, as it was their lunch hour, and immediately came back and said you need to bring your cat in immediately. They were extremely responsive and companionate to our situation. The kitty is recovering after a few days in the hospital. Thank you Heartland for everything.

Amazing people. I lost my Oscar recently and the care they provided was truly special. I was allowed to visit for a little after hours and no one ever complained. Thank you for making a very hard time for us easier....I will never forget it ❤
