EDIT, 12/7/2021: changed my review from 2 Stars to 1. That extra star was solely because our annual checkups were fine and I was being generous. My dog died in June, 2021. By then I had already moved her to another veterinary practice, while still paying for the wellness plan because to cancel the plan I would have been charged an absurd amount of money. I notified Banfield of my dog’s death and cancelled our plan immediately after her death. I have, in the past two weeks, received several text messages from Banfield Gainesville reminding me to schedule vaccine appointments for my dog. It’s been six months since she died. Clearly they don’t actually know the animals they work with. When we have brought the dogs in for their annual check-ups things have been great, but it is impossible to get a dog in here for actual illnesses. Several times since moving to the Gainesville area, I have called to have my senior dog seen for various problems (incontinence, eating something she’s not supposed to, extreme lethargy) and every single time I have been told that they have no appointments available until the following week at the earliest and I have had to then drive 30+ minutes away to have my dog seen in a timely manner. It’s such a shame, too, because we loved the Banfield hospitals that we used when we lived in Herndon. Summed up: This particular location is good for annual check-ups, but don’t expect to be able to get your dog in when your pet is actually sick.

I’m not at all happy with the service provided by Banfield Pet Hospital at Gainesville. My Dog Bruno had an appointment at 8am in the morning to check for an ear infection. It was a drop off appointment and they keep the dog about 3-4 hours. However, when I called them at 12pm they said they need longer and will hand Bruno to me at 2pm. When I called at 2pm they say they didn’t look at him yet and need more time and asked me to come at 4:30. Bruno had already stayed more than 8 hours by now. So this time I didn’t call and directly went to pick him up and they didn’t look at him yet. That’s absolutely ridiculous. They made me wait at the hospital for 1.5 hours before they handed my dog to me. What a pathetic service is this? Would you let this happen to your dog? Worst thing is I suspect that the dogs that are being dropped off are not even being treated well. They told me they give him water every other hour but when my dog came back, he drank water like he hasn’t drank any for a day. Half the times, the staff doesn’t answer any calls made for appointments and these guys don’t support booking an appointment online. This of the worst pet hospital service I have seen so far and this needs to change immediately.

I scheduled an appointment to book my initial meeting for my dog and the wellness program and this was the only place that had availability within the 30 day target. I drove an hour to my appointment (which I received a confirmation email for) and when I showed up I was told their system was having glitches and sent me the wrong appointment date. The supervisor - April Harrell - was not helpful in the slightest even while acknowledging her and her team made a mistake. I highly recommend not using this location considered how I was treated reflects the character and treatment of the animals being serviced here.

I've updated my review... Super friendly staff and able to squeeze you in at a moments notice. Our preferred place to take our doggies and the healthcare plans are great!

I have taken my dog here for illness twice in the past two weeks as I have one of their plans. My dog has been refusing to eat. First visit dog blood work was supposed taken and nothing was found, dog was out on $40 a case food for suspected pancreatitis although bloodwork did not show. Dog ate food for two days and stopped eating again. Took dog back again and was given fluids and X-ray to look only for blockage and wanted to rerun same blood work simultaneously which I did not approve and now high caloric food and advised to force feed. Noting found wrong with dog. Dog was taken to emergency vet/hospital from after hours number as dog could not stand and unable to force feed. Before I could even get back home less than 10 min away she had taken blood and had a diagnosis of Addison’s Disease, dog has to be hospitalized due to condition she is in and this Dr is not sure why the Banfield 1) missed this from the info I gave, 2) did not diagnose it if they did ‘bloodwork’ and 3) let her come home with me. I say this to say, Banfield is a commercial Health Dept for pets. Their business model is not for the care of ill pets-it is to make money. I gave them $600 for nothing leaving my dog in pain and almost dead. Pay for a vet-some of them have ‘wellness plans’ and it may save you $3000 in the end!!!!

I’ve been using Banfield for my dogs for over 3 years. The front desk staff is always nice and I love Dr. Diaz. I’ve been to other vets and they charge a lot more. I understand how it can be frustrating to go in and be told you have to pay for all of these things the vet is suggesting. Dr. Diaz understands and never pushes me to do something I really can’t afford unless it’s necessary. I’m always have a choice. Our babies can’t tell us exactly what it wrong so they have to rely on tests and unfortunately those can cost a lot of money. I'm sorry, I meant to write this for the Sudley location. I have seen Dr. Moonberry in Gainsville and she is very nice.

I had a situation with my dog, wasn’t sure what to do. It was late in the day and they came up as an emergency vet. They were fantastic!! They truly cared about my fur Angel. They provided me with the information I needed to deal with my crisis. From the bottom of my heart I thank you. When you care enough about a non patient, looking forward to becoming a current patient

Our 10 year old cat Richie has FIV and since we adopted him two years ago, there have been lots of vet visits. More recently, we found Dr. Mesfin and have been so happy with the level of care he provides. Richie had to have one of his toes amputated and Dr. Mesfin performed the surgery and was wonderful through the whole experience. We had many follow-up appointments and we always felt as though Dr. Mesfin truly cared about Richie. We had an appointment today to take a look at some of Richie’s skin scabs (unrelated to toe amputation, just another unfortunate complication of FIV/older cats) and once again- Dr. Mesfin was great. I would recommend this Banfield location and specifically Dr. Mesfin to anyone! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the care you provide to our boy, Dr. Mesfin. It is so appreciated, more than you know!

Absolutely HORRIBLE! I called freaking out about my Puppy and the attendant on the phone was absolutely USELESS. Speaking to someone like herself makes me really question if i want to drop off my puppy to such care. The lack of patience and consideration just causes worry if I were to leave my puppy in such an impatient persons hands. Nothing, but disappointment with this location.

I've been taking my dog here for several years and over the years a couple things have been consistent. 1- they are unreliable when it comes to follow up phone calls from the doctors. 2. They frequently are understaffed at the front desk. 3. They have recently begun leaving their lines blocked with a busy signal for hours and when the phone does ring, no one answers and it goes to voice mail. This is totally unacceptable and unprofessional...

Hardest hospital to reach. Hard to fill medication and when I finally get through to a line to leave a message it takes days for a follow up and even then they're semi-dismissive and uninterested.

We showed up for a 4:30 appointment at 4:35. Because of two people in front of us waiting, they didn't talk to us or even acknowledge we were there. Finally at 4:55 they finally spoke with us and refused us service because we were 25 minutes late to check-in, even though 20 minutes of that was their own fault.

The front desk staff this past weekend is the best we have ever worked with. We had to wait a little longer than expected for our appointment, but the polite and professional gentleman at the front made up for it. Its refreshing to get such great customer service from a younger generation.

This place is absolutely horrible! Our family dog had to be dropped off at 9am and we waited all day to get a call back about when we can pick our dog up. They never called so we called. They didn’t even treat our dog yet! Our poor dog is 12 years old and shouldn’t of had to wait 8 hours to get seen PERIOD!

I have two dogs and one cat that receive care at this location in Gainesville. I have always been happy with the care until a recent experience I had trying to contact the Practice Manager. One of my dogs has been on the same flea and tick medication that was prescribed by this clinic since she has been in there care. This year I have removed 4 ticks that were embedded in her skin. I thought someone should know and wanted to get my pet protected. 4 calls to the clinic with a promise the Practice Manager would call me back. Yesterday the person that answered the phone hung up on me. I will find another clinic that will care for my pets

ALWAYS a terrible experience at this specific banfield location. I spend $70 a month which is doable but outrageous for the service that is given here. They will have you wait forever until your dog is actually seen. Their communication skills are just at an all time low and I’ve been going to this banfield for the past 4 years with my other dog and when she was a puppy I never had as many issues as I do now. I don’t work close so I asked if it would be ok to show late to an appointment and was ensured that it’d be fine which made me leave work early when I could’ve stayed if I knew my dog wouldn’t be seen at all. I’m tempted to cancel my plan with banfield but it’s ONLY this location that gives such terrible service. I’ve tried the other location on Sudley Road in Manassas and they’ve always taken care of my dog whether it’s on the spot, a drop off, or an appointment and their team is informative and straightforward. Avoid this particular location because it’s a waste of your money...If I could rate them lower than 1 star I for sure would.

very friendly staff and knowledgeable doctors. I have two dogs that currently go here. They get you in and out fast and answer any questions you have. Always on time giving me medication and always get me in as soon as possible when I need to make an appointment for my dogs. The rooms are always very clean and never smell strongly on disinfectant. I also love that they do drop off appointments. Its great for when I want my dog's conditioned watched throughout the day so they can diagnose as best as they can and bring up any other concerns they have noticed. They always call after dentals and have me pick up a few hours later so they can watch my pet as they come out of anesthesia.

I would NOT go here for anything other than shots. Their services are ridiculously overpriced. I took my dog there for a lame foot, where I noticed redness. They called to tell me they "think" she broke her toe, but to verify they would need $279 for an X-ray....AFTER a 20% discount. That was laughable, so I declined it and took her to another Vet. Turns out the toe wasn't broken and she just stepped on something that caused the inflammation. What if I got the X-ray and nothing? Well, we ruled that out, but you still owe $279 for our wrong "guess"... This place is a corporate factory with ridiculous prices. If you want actual care without up-charges that play on the love of your pet, look elsewhere.

Dr. Mesfin is an amazing vet who truly cares about my dog's welfare. He takes the time to explore all avenues of medical care for my dog, starting from the most basic. He is kind, caring, listens and explains things in a clear way. Even, when he does not have the time to answer my questions or see me. He always gets back to me within 24 hours. He is not only my dog's vet he is also my psychiatrist. He knows how much I love my little furry one and that I always worry and knows how to put me at ease. He is honest and one of the best in his profession.

I have been going to this Banfield since they opened in 2005. They are always busy, so be patient, because they do an EXCELLENT job. Dr. Mesfin is brilliant, extremely thorough, and really cares about my furry family!

I've been taking my dogs there for 2 years and Dr. Mesfin is wonderful. He listens to your concerns and provide options for treatment.Their program for vaccinations is affordable and covers office visits. However, if your pets needs surgical treatments, I take them to Anicira because they're affordable. Our vet rights up a referral for the procedure and we're all set.
