Meet Yardstick and Ruler. Yardstick, the black and white kitten, earned his name because he has three feet. His left forearm was destroyed, gruesomely, when he had a very bad day as a stray kitten who crawled into a truck engine compartment for a warm place to sleep. Ruler, the charcoal kitten, was an abandoned starveling. Dr Wixsom and her staff took in the homeless kittens, and nursed them back to health. Yardstick took multiple surgeries to save his life and repair the damage. Dr Wixsom did so without an expectation of payment. They were strays, abandoned and unwanted. Now we are fortunate to call them both family. Two sweeter bubbas you couldn't wish for. All because Dr Wixsom and her staff couldn't just let them go.

I have ALWAYS trusted GAMC staff to care for our “fur kids.” Everyone has been nothing but polite, respectful, and professional during my visits, even during stressful times. They love to be boarded now at GAMC. I would feel guilty dropping them off, but when they see the staff, they wag their tails and know they are off to have a good time! Thank you GAMC staff for your compassionate care over the years!

I've never seen Ozzy so happy to go anywhere. I've also never seen any dog want to visit the vet. I guess he knows Dr Wixom saved his life. I highly recommend Guardian Animal Medical Center to anyone with animals in need of quality care.

GAMC has taken excellent care of our four cats for the past 8 years. So, this year we decided to get our first dog. Dr. Wixsom answered ALL our questions about what type of dog would fit our family. We did the Puppy Plan and had an amazing experience. Our questions have always been answered quickly and thoroughly. I absolutely recommend this veterinary clinic for all your pet needs. We also purchased our flea & tick meds and heartworm meds from GAMC and the prices are competitive and we always get the authentic medication in the correct dosage (unlike online).

Dr. Wixsom and her dedicated staff have taken care of our family’s dogs for a decade. Upon our relocation to Greenep County in 2011, we were apprehensive about leaving our long-standing Lexington veterinary office. In a very short time, we discovered Guardian Animal provided top notch care for our pets that exceeded our expectations. She is the most knowledgeable vet I have ever encountered—I can trust that her advice is supported by the best veterinary medicine and practice. I tell people that I would let Dr. Wixsom treat us if she could. Her services are worth every cent we’ve ever paid—her commitment to Toby and Sadie is priceless.

I couldn't recommend Guardian enough. Not only for how reliable they've been for the eight or so years I've been taking my dogs here, but for the people. The dogs I have taken to Guardian have only received care and respect. My Boston Terrier was on the puppy plan, and it helped me feel assured he was safe. I had to put a dog down a few years ago. It was heartbreaking. I don't know that I've fully recovered, but when we came in with him, he was treated so humanely and cared for. Dr. Wixsom has been nothing but nice to me and my family, and I can't any reason why others shouldn't take their pets to Guardian.

This place is a joke. They are supposed to be a rescue to take in injured raptors and birds of prey! They try to require you to sing a waiver and then refuse to tell you the outcome of the treatment. All I wanted to know was if they were going to be able to treat the injured raptor or not. I realize some birds can't be saved. They refused to tell me that simple answer. I will never take another animal to this place. I could have taken care of the bird myself at least I would have known the outcome.

Would not recommend this place to anyone . My dogs were there while we were out of town they told us they would be bathed but they were not they came home smelling like pee ; as soon as they came in our house they ran straight to their food bowls like they hadn't ate in days . We will not take our dogs back there .

Please do NOT take your animals to guardian animal medical center. Our puppy has been sick with a bacterial infection for over a month and they have failed to figure it out when a new vet figured it out in less than 10 minutes, even though they had been asked to test him 3 times. They overdosed our puppy with medicine for a 60 lb dog when he is only 20 pounds. They have forgotten our medicine for him multiple times. The customer service is absolutely terrible. They are rude, put you on hold forever, and hang up on you. They are completely unconcerned for our puppy. The staff is very uneducated and unprofessional. He would be traumatized every time he came out of the room with them. He’s not like that with the new vet at all, so no, it isn’t just nerves. We paid $330 down to get all of his shots that he needs within the first 18 weeks of his life and even though he has only received 3 out of 7 visits, been under-dosed, overdosed, and mistreated they refuse to refund us for the remaining visits that we will not be going to. They are now refusing to send the new vet his medical records.

The staff was so informative, took a tour of the facility...great place! Boarding animals were so well cared for. And had staff attention the entire time I was visiting. My animals will be switched to Guardian Animal and will board with them in a regular basis.

My caique somehow injured its leg during one of his many cirque du soleil performances. I brought him in with 0 notice and they worked him in. She is taking very good care of his leg. I have many exotic animals and i believe i can safely say we finally found a knowledgeable vet for our fur/feather faces.

If you want to take your pet to a provider who really cares for your animal you will not find any greater place than Guardian Animal Medical Center. They all genuinely love their jobs and caring for animals.. The vet is absolutely great with our dog Red and the ladies who assist there are equally as caring. We travel for work so are out of town most of the time and we trust them so much that we leave our dog red there for boarding several weeks at a time. Red has never hesitated, he just goes rt on in like he's at home.

Literally the BEST animal clinic around. I’ve never met people so friendly & passionate about they animals they care for! Getting a new puppy is often very overwhelming at times, but with their puppy package they take the time to thoroughly explain & show how to give him the care he wants and needs! My dog loves going in and getting to love on all the workers, especially Dr. Wixsom! ❤️

I took my Boxer to Guardian the other day for extreme weight loss and wasn't sure if he was going to make it home or not. The staff was incredible and even helped me get him out of the car because he couldn't get up. They all cared so much, cleaning up after him and they carried him for me. I am grateful and truly astonished at the difference in him 2 days later. We still have a long road to go but he went outside yesterday and ran up and back down the hill while going out to go potty. I can't say Thank You enough to this great team for their care, knowledge, dedication and true compassion. Bubba (our boxer) is a member of our family and it means the world to us what your team is doing to help him get better.

Took our dog there and Dr Wixsom helped him. She identified the problem immediately and was very kind and caring to me and our precious pet. The staff were great. I feel very good about the care Beethoven (our dog) received and I would recommend Guardian to anyone.

My family and I just moved to Ashland and was looking for a vet for our 3 Chihuahuas. Today was our first Visit to Guardian Animal. First of all the front desk staff was wonderful. They were polite and friendly. Our appointment was for 4pm we went back about 30 mins after we got there, which wasnt a bad wait, and the doctor was in the room within 10 mins. So, My dog Hulk is very shy and doesnt like to be touched by strangers ...which we informed them before hand, plus it was obvious. So instead of easying him into meeting someone new.. The vet tech held him down while the vet tried shoving peanut butter down his throat with a tongue depresser. When my dog refused to eat it they then proceeded to rub it all over his nose. He was so scared and moving around so much by the time they were done he had peanut butter on his face, his ears, and between his paws. The vets comment was rude by saying he was grouchy. NO.. he was scared and you traumatized him. He was shaking when they gave him back to me. I reached into my purse for a dog wipe and was rudely told by the vet to leave it on him. She said that he would smell it later and it would let him know it was ok and next time he wouldnt be so scared. NO.. Im pretty sure you just made it worse. Also she gave him a shot before I even had a chance to ask what it was. So Im still looking for a new vet in Ashland. We will never be back to Guardian Animal.

Bad first experience. I called a week ago to schedule an appointment and showed up on time, only to be told there was no record of my appointment. I dare not leave my dog with these people as they’ll probably forget about her too. Can not recommend.

Dr. Wixsom really does love animals and is by far the best vet I've ever taken my dog to. I recently had a situation ordering heart worm medicine online and it took 2 month to straighten out. The staff worked very hard and did all they could to remedy the situation, especially Stephanie, who I am very grateful to. Take your animals here, these people care!

Dr. Wixsom and her staff have cared for all my dogs for over 20 years. We also use them for our boarding needs. My dogs act very comfortable with her techs which tells me about the care they receive. We have gone from puppy care to end stage diseases with several dogs. Open frank discussions are appreciated. We weigh the options together and agree on a treatment plan and when the end inevitably comes, we both grieve.
