Mountain Run Kennel Culpeper, West Virginia

My dogs have stayed at Mountain Run twice a year for the last 7 years. Each visit is for 1-2 weeks. I have never had any health issues and my dogs love the people that work there. When I arrive at the kennel, my dogs jump out of the car off leash and go straight to the door wanting to greet the staff! They then happily leave me and walk with them towards their kennel (still off leash).

Really nice people and my dog is spoiled and in good condition when I get him back. Thank you for taking care of him!

Have you noticed that ALL the bad reviews here say the exact same thing? Friend’s dog, 10 days, rash. Looks like ONE person got all their friends to pile on. We’ve taken our dogs here for over 3 years. Never had a bad experience. The staff treats the dogs as their own. Hugs and kisses. Our dogs actually are happy when we get there.

My dogs have been staying at Mountain Run Kennel for over 12 years. It is a fantastic place. Yes, it is expensive, but it is a place where I can send my dog and not worry about her at all. They are attentive, call with concerns, and are very professional. I have never had a negative experience here in 12 years. Love, love, them!

I have known and sent my dogs to Mountain Run Kennel since I moved to the DC area in 2003. My first dog, a corgi, loved Mountain Run and would happily jump into their pick up van when he was going to his camp for a few days. My dogs now, a mix breed and a labradoodle always have a good time at their camp. They come home happy and smelling great! The people that work there are always responsive to all my requests (yes, I am a bit high maintenance when it come to my dogs) and they are warm and caring to the dogs and to their owners. I highly recommend this place!

Just a heads up, ignore the google reviews star rating. This reputable business was the victim of a social media smear campaign a few years back, hence all the random one-star reviews. If you go to any other review website where the reviewer must be a validated client, you can see the rating is exponentially higher.

Love this place,they treat your pets as if it's their own. They make sure they are comfortable.

Took our Shepherd and Spaniel here for 4 day stay in August. The gals at the front were incredibly kind, helpful, and clearly cared a lot about the dogs. The dogs were able to stay in a double-sized run together and seemed to have had a wonderful time! They were happy and well when we picked them up. In fact, they didn't even act stand-offish as they sometimes do when you leave them. We were referred here by Mahogany Ridge when they did not have room for us, and we are so pleased to have found a great place for our dogs. They are our babies. I would recommend Mountain Run Kennel to anyone who wants a safe and lovely place for their dogs.

Best dog kennel in Virginia! Beautiful location and facility, great outdoor activities for the dogs, and the staff are kind and highly qualified. I have been taking my Alaskan Malamute to Mountain Run for the past 8 years. She loves this place and the people who work there! She is always excited to visit Mountain Run, where she receives exceptional care. It is expensive, but you get what you pay for. If you want total peace of mind that your pet is in wonderful hands, choose Mountain Run. I don’t know the full story behind all of the 1-star reviews from a year ago, except to say that it appears to be some kind of coordinated attack against this highly reputable business. It is concerning to see how many people “liked” these reviews as compared to the positive 5-star reviews, which is part of why I think online review systems are inherently flawed. I don’t normally write online reviews, but when I saw the disingenuous negative attacks, I felt compelled to speak out in defense of this business. I hope my review is helpful to others.

We have boarded our furry boys at this kennel for short (4-day) and long (two weeks) durations for the past 8 years. They love their stays here; the attention from staff is incredible, and the attitude toward our fur babies has always been like family. The staff even noticed when one of our boys was not in our reservation after he had passed unexpectedly from cancer; we subsequently received a letter from Virginia Tech’s veterinary school that a donation had been made by the kennel in honor of our boy. They are wonderful.

Zeus stayed here for 4 days and had a blast! He came back happy & healthy and we will send him again!!

We have been taking our dogs here for 15years. The people are great and we would not take our dog anywhere else.

We boarded our labradoodle for the first time September 2011 for a week. He stayed with his neighbor friend and both dogs had a marvelous time. We used the pick up/drop off service and everything went well. We continued to board our dog for as little as a weekend and for as much as two weeks until he died in May 2015. When we called to board our new 5 month puppies for a long weekend in Oct 2015, the staff asked about our first dog. They were heartbroken to hear of his death. Their empathy was appreciated, but they won our hearts when they gave a donation in his memory. Our new pups have stayed several times a year since and are getting ready to go again. Mountain Run staff have my loyalty because of their phenomenal care of our family at all levels. When the dogs see the team they are thrilled to be there. I highly recommend them!

We have been going here for years and always loved it. Marlin our dog loves it as well and they have always gone above and beyond. Well today they really went above and beyond and we are so appreciative. ???????? Thanks again Mountain Run!

My dog DYLAN has been going there since she was a puppy - now 10 a toy poodle.. they love her like their own and she comes home fresh and happy... Never any moments of alleged harm or mistreatment at all. They even helped me on food choices and other important aspects for care. Highly recommended... AND people are leaving reviews on behalf of ONE persons experience. Only Human beings are this brainless. Stop Trolling..

My elderly beagle has stayed here several times each year for 3 years. He loves the people, the "play time" with other dogs, and nature walks. Compared to a previous kennel (where I couldn't drag him out of the car), he is so happy when he arrives and recognizes his "home away from home." I couldn't be more pleased with his care.

I have been a client of Mountain Run Kennel’s for almost 20 years. I wouldn’t take my dogs anywhere else. My dogs get really excited when we turn onto the road where the kennel is located because they know they are going to “camp.” The staff are exemplary, skilled and knowledgeable about all sorts of breeds and dog behavior. They helped us recently add a new dog to our family with great success. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone looking for a reputable and nurturing atmosphere for their dogs or cats.

Wonder place with a wonderful staff. They have taken care of my dog several times a year for 4 years. My dog loves going to this kennel. She gets so excited when she gets out of the car.

Excellent Kennel! My dog loves it! We have been taking our dog(s) there for about 10 years! NEVER had a bad experience. Our dog is always welcomed with hugs and we feel he is on his own vacation. I've checked on those negative reviews...most don't live in Virginia and some are from outside the country so you know they've been paid to leave bad reviews.

This is the best kennel in the Washington DC Metro & Maryland Area. Being from Maryland I’ve used several kennels and this kennel is by far the best in service, cleanliness and professionalism. My dogs love it here. It’s like a vacation for them when I have to leave them. Beautiful space to play and run and individual care by skilled care givers. I love MRK ????????????

Great place to board your dogs! Our dogs always come home happy and calm. The staff is wonderful!

We have been using this kennel for better than 10 years. Wife and I went out of town for a few days for our anniversary. April 30, we got a call from Michelle from the kennel informing us that our 9 year old German Shepherd "Legion" had very labored breathing and was not eating. We had no one available to take him to our vet at Clevingers Corner. Michelle took it upon herself to take him, all the while communicating with us as we were worried sick. Initial examination and xrays revealed the worst. Dr Watts informed us that Legion had pneumonia coupled with advanced lung cancer. The painful decision was made for euthanasia. Legion had instances of coughing prior and was seen in December. His appetite and behaviour seemed fine for a 9 yr old. Michelle stayed with our boy and held him, comforted him through the tears. Mountain Run Kennels Michelle and staff went far beyond expectations. The love and compassion exhibited was truly a heartfelt, warming experience. No words of ours can Express how grateful we are for the excellent care shown. This has been a long narrative, but Mountain Run Kennel with Michelle and staff are due our love and appreciation!! THANK YOU for being the best!!! Terry & Debby Carter
