Am so impressed with Dr. Chris and his associates. He was kind and caring with Zeus and took time to be thorough and answer questions.

Will never bring my animals here again. Vet was rude and condescending the entire time.

I honestly wasn't going to go to this place due to the name (then I learned that that's the street it's on). My pup had an allergic reaction to something at while 5 other hospitals were at capacity or a 7 hour wait, I was able to get in in 45 minutes without a spendy ER fee. Thankful for the cheerful and knowledgeable staff here and they have my business for as long as we are in the area.

After bringing my cats to Canterbury Animal Hospital since 1993, our beloved vet retired. My first experience with the new team was extremely disappointing. The cost of services has gone up dramatically. I expected an increase, but not this much. But the main reason I am looking for a different vet is this: My cat had been scratching himself like crazy. I suspected fleas. So I tried several over the counter flea remedies I'd used successfully on my cats in the past. Nothing seemed to help with this poor little guy. So when I called Canterbury. After explaining what I'd tried so far, I was given a song and dance about the current flea population being immune to Advantage now. They recommended a "more potent" flea remedy, but insisted it needed to be applied by the vet. As this was during COVID, I was not allowed into the office with him, so I have no idea what they actually did with/for him. But when they were "done" and brought him out to me, I asked about the flea problem. Then the assistant asked me if I wanted to have the flea remedy THEY recommend. I was surprised they hadn't already treated him. So I said sure. My cat was suffering, so yeah ... this was the main reason I brought him in, so yes. Let's get this fixed. The single dose they sold me was $75 ... and they didn't even apply it ... just handed it to me thru the car window. It didn't work. He was still at himself 48 hours after application. So I called them back. This was their response: "Not surprised. We found no evidence of fleas on him the other day." Excuse me?? So you KNEW there were no fleas, but you sold me a hella expensive flea remedy which you knew I didn't need. AND .. this is the worst part ... after eliminating fleas as the cause of his incessant scratching, you made zero effort to diagnose the problem. I was disappointed with the price increases, but I am outraged at the lack care he received while there! He's doing fine now, no thanks to them. Switched him to a grain free diet and give him a quarter of a 10 mg loratadine (aka OTC Claritin) a day. No more scratching. My girlfriend took her dog there to get his teeth cleaned during COVID so had to drop him off. She says, when she picked him up, they had PULLED ALL HIS TEETH! No one called her to say, "Hey ... we have your dog under and there are some serious issues. Do we have your permission to pull his teeth?" Nope ... they just yanked them all without warning or permission, and left her with a staggering bill. After her experience, I guess I should have known better than to trust them with my little buddy. The trust is broken. I won't be back. I hate finding a new vet, but my beloved vet is gone, and this new team seems more intent on finding ways to take my money than helping my pets.

I called to get some vaccine records transferred to my local veterinarian( the previous dog owner had taken our dog here) I was impressed on how nicely I was treated and how both the people that I talked to took the time to help me even if I wasn’t even a customer. I would definitely switch to this vet after the attention received over the phone. Thank you Canterbury Animal Hospital.

My 10-month-old kitten was suffering from diarrhea and vomiting. Initially, I took my cat to Companion Pet Clinic in Beaverton for a physical exam and fecal float (big mistake, they told me to put her on a 24-hr fast and didn’t prescribe anything. They also wanted to do an expensive thyroid exam which didn’t make sense given her age and symptoms. She was worse off after I had taken her there. Long story short, they didn’t care about my cat’s well-being but just wanted my $). A couple of people recommended Canterbury, so that’s where I decided to go next. From my initial conversation with Jess on the phone, I could tell that they genuinely cared about my cat’s well-being. I brought her in the next day (walk-ins are welcome) and the moment I handed her off, I felt a sense of relief that she would be taken care of. Jess asked me about her symptoms and said that Dr. Smith would call me after the initial physical exam. I spoke with her on the phone, and she asked me about my cat’s diet, when her diarrhea and vomiting started, if she could have swallowed anything, if she’s been sick before, and even asked me about the active ingredient in the OTC anti-diarrhea medicine I bought. She then told me about the exams she would be conducting and next steps and the front desk called after with a total cost estimate so I could give my OK. Ultimately, the Canterbury team concluded it was a bacterial infection and gave me the proper medication to treat my cat. They had the necessary equipment, testing, and medications available. At the end of the visit, I was able to talk with Dr. Smith and Jess again to ask any lingering questions. The next day, I saw significant improvement in my cat’s health. They even called back to check in on how she was doing. After just a couple of days, my cat has returned to her normal, feisty self! There is a clear difference in an animal hospital like Canterbury vs. Companion (who didn’t ask any questions about her symptoms, give me clear/helpful next steps, and didn’t even give me a chance to speak with the actual vet). If you’re looking to go to a vet that really cares about your pet’s health and goes the extra mile to communicate and empathize, I highly recommend Canterbury! Jess and Dr. Smith were fantastic and I look forward to having Canterbury as my regular vet from now on.

I bring my two fur babies here since the new management took over, I have no idea what the old management was like, but I've never had a bad experience with the new owners. My dog is very shy with new people and can easily be scared. The tech's are always patient, gentle and caring. They understand how much my baby girl means to me. The vet is professional and have always discussed treatment options with me. Recommendations have always been for the most effective but least expensive care. They have always squeeze my babies in for any emergencies. They make room in their schedule to squeeze them both at the same time. My cat and dog are always in good hands and care when I bring them in. A vet office is a scary place. It smells of other animals and people that are not familiar. It's natural for any animal to feel frighten and unsure. I've seen how they handle my very skittish dog and my not so friendly feline and it warms my heart to know that they care for my girls. I know they are in great hands and will receive outstanding care everytime. Canterbury always sends us vaccine reminders aswell as annual check up reminders. There prices are reasonable, vet bill's are expensive in general but at Canterbury we're always given the option of treatments. We discuss what's the best option for our fur babies. There's no hidden fees and they won't do any unnecessary treatment.

The veternarian seemed very good but the office staff was snippy and did not relay a message that delayed care for my sick cat. While perusing reviews I came across a title held by over half of their reviewers that I was not familiar with so I googled it. Do you know what a local guide is? I did not but I have learned " local guides" are compensated with gifts from google for their stellar reviews. The more reviews, the higher their status with google and the greater their rewards. Apparently they cannot be paid directly with cash but instead are given google products commensurate with their status level.Check for yourself and make your own decision if you trust their reviews.

Wish I had read reviews first. For me, it was a toxic experience. My cat was ill and I brought her in for tests. She had Xrays and anti-nausea medicine. I asked if it would be okay to bring her home to see if she improved after three days (Fri and weekend). Took her in for more tests (now up to almost $800.00)which showed no illness. I was charged for another exam which I felt was not right. I spoke to the office manager who immediately became testily confrontive repeatedly saying this is a business. When I said I would not be coming back, she became even more snippy. When I arrived to pick up my cat, three office personnel marched to my car and shoved the Patient Report at me, stuck the cat in the car )only one person came out before)...Nothing like a good show of force and disrespect to an 80 year old woman. BRAVO GIRLS! So $800 later, no medical advice to take home..cat still not well (guess we punish the cat for my brazeness too). Worst...don't go.

I believe this hospital is under new management, so this review may not pertain to the current staff. I’ve had 3 years to think about our experience, and to still feel so negatively has led me to this review. Growing up we had both a cat and a dog that we brought to this clinic. Generally things went well, no experience was out of the ordinary until we had to say goodbye to our dog. She declined rapidly, and we had to make the tough decision to have her euthanized. When we got to the clinic, instead of consoling us and understanding our situation the technician pointed out everything that was wrong with our sweet girl. We knew what was wrong, that’s why we were there. She made us feel like we had done something wrong in our care for our dog and that’s why she was dying. There was no sympathy whatsoever, and it was actually quite appalling. When it was actually time for the euthanasia, the doctor did not remove the tourniquet after the injection of euthanasia solution, so nothing happened. He did this twice before the technician realized his mistake and told him. He did not apologize to us, or take responsibility for his mistake. The whole process was drawn out, and nobody seemed to care how it was affecting us or our pup. I know other clinics send out sympathy cards after a pet passes, or offer a clay paw print. We did not receive any of this. It was such an emotional time for us, and the lack of empathy or regard for our feelings still bothers me to this day. My last memories of my precious girl have been tainted by the actions of the team working that day, and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget that.

Took my sweet senior feline baby today and happy to report that although I was scared at what my final bill would be, I was more than happy with the service provided for my kitty. ???? Dr. Smith is amazing as well as the other staff. Thanks to everyone there. I have all of my answers and know that I will be using them again for future visits

We have been taking our animals to a vet down the road for years and after being dissatisfied many times with how their plan of care and judgemental tone we decided to try out Canterbury. We have now switched both our cat and dog over to their office and have had nothing but great service. Our dog has suffered on and off for years with skin problems and itchy red blotches. We tried things at home to see if it was an allergy we could pinpoint but a few weeks ago it finally got so bad he was losing clumps of fur so we brought him in. With COVID I was unable to go into the office but felt confident leaving my dog in their hands. Dr. Chris Mcilmoil examined my dog and called and spoke to me for almost 20 minutes giving me several different options with what we could try. I was so pleased that he didn't automatically jump to the most expensive tests and say we needed to do xy and z before we'd know what was happening. My dog started a prescription and the difference was almost immediate! Two weeks later and his hair has almost completely grown back and he seems so comfortable and not itchy. I have a feeling we have found a good fit for our animals and will recommend to friends!

They took my new kitten in for a check up right away since he was rescued from the fires. Gave him antibiotics to make sure he didn't get sick from breathing all the smoke. They were fast, friendly and caring! We will be returning for a follow-up and immunizations this week.

We have been bringing our cat here for over 10 years because of how great the staff is and how excellent the quality of care is. They are able to squeeze us in for emergency visits due to our cat climbing a tree or getting in fights. Our cat is a little scrappy and they were able to manage him just fine! Because he tried to scratch one of the vet techs they trimmed up his nails and had such a great attitude about it.

Very trustworthy place. Trying to find a new vet during the pandemic has been so stressful because you aren't able to go inside with your pet. But its clear that the people here have a genuine care for animals and honest prices. My dog is usually scared of strangers but he seemed comfortable with them and was in a good mood when they brought him back out. They've really taken great care of my little guy. What more could you ask for? I highly reccomend.

I brought my childhood cat in for dental concerns, and we ended up finding out he is diabetic. Even during a pandemic nearing the end hours of clinic hours, Dr. Smith took her time to teach me everything I needed to know and help me cope with the shock. Dr. Smith is professional, compassionate, and a wonderful vet. Not being able to follow my cat into the clinic was heartbreaking, but when within the first five minutes of being there I see a staff member cheerfully jogging with a dog (patient) across the parking lot to the clinic door to help make the dog feel comfortable, I knew I could trust them.

We saw Dr. Chris for another opinion about my dogs surgery she is needing. He took x-rays, explained to me all the different types of surgeries and how they all worked. He made sure I understood every bit of what he was talking about. He was caring, kind, understanding and patient. I will forsure be coming back here. Oh and even all the ladies there were so kind, sweet and made sure I knew what was going on. They love my kiddo almost as much as I do!!❤

I've been here several times, and I've been more disappointed each time I go. This last time was frustrating enough that I decided to leave a review. When my dog was handed off to a technician, I explained that I nearly took her to an ER last night because of the intense vomiting she experienced in the middle of the night. She'd also had diarrhea, which has been repeating intermittently for months now. I was worried sick about her. An hour later I still hadn't received ANY update on my dog. I finally call them (since I have to wait in my car), and I'm just told the vet will call in a few minutes because she needs to take care of some other things first. When I finally do get a call, I can hear my dog barking nonstop in the background and people yelling to distract her. I know my dog, and she's barking because she's been left alone in a room for a LONG time. On this phone call, the vet just tells me all possible causes of diarrhea, which I know already because this is now my 3rd visit for this issue (and no mention of her vomiting). She asks if she can run a couple tests, which should have been started much earlier. I suspect no mention of the potential ER visit, or her vomiting was even mentioned to the vet from the technician. I'm incredibly upset that when I say I nearly took my dog to an ER, it took them an HOUR to even see her, give me an update, and START tests. It's also frustrating that there seems to be no continuity in her care because this has become a chronic problem, and it isn't being recognized or treated as one. They give drugs to improve the symptoms, but not to treat the cause. I've also noticed that her weight is no longer being updated on the invoices I receive. It has stayed the same over several months now despite the vet telling me she's lost weight. I've been told by two different vets there within a couple months of each other that she should be fed more, and another saying she should be fed less. While these seem like small things, it's led to a loss of trust for me when I evaluate their professional advice.

I took my dog into see Dr. Chris today due to a few health concerns with my dog. Dr. Chris didn't see anything abnormal or actively needing treatment, which was a huge relief! My dog had a few pressure sores and another mildly concerning issue with his boy parts. Dr. Chris educated me on what to look for if the sores become actively infected. He's very professional and addresses all of my questions and concerns no matter how small they may have seemed. I love my pup and trust the Canterbury Animal Hospital staff with his anxiety and needs. They're great with doggos who need to be separated from other animals, as my dog does, so I highly recommend them! No outrageous pricing either, I'm a mother of 4, and so that is something I consider. The staff genuinely cares about their patients! Great place!
