Absolutely wonderful. Wonderful staff, technicians, and Dr. Both of our animals have been treated here. The staff is gentle, warm, ok if you're feeling emotional. They're clean and affordable. I am so grateful for this group of humans.

Front desk people are amazing! Doctor Walia is terrible and highly unsuggested. He is rude and doesn’t listen to what anyone has to say. He very much seems like he is doing the job to get as much money as possible without actually caring about the animals. I went in for my (female) dogs ear infection, which was very clear, and he consistently told me that she is having allergies to grass. Never in her 4 years has that been the case and after being told that he insisted it’s allergies and tried to argue with me about it. I definitely overpaid ($550) to have an ear infection checked out and fixed because he immediately told us putting her under to clean it is the only option. I only came here because my usual vet was booked and I didn’t want my pup to suffer in her ear but I’d never recommend anyone to ever come here and if you do, absolutely avoid “Dr.” Kamal J. Walia

hospital shouldn't be in your name if you don't accept walk-ins.

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Walia since the very early 90s. He is a very good Dr. One of my dogs broke her elbow in a fall down the stairs one time and I took her in to see Dr. Walia. He put some pins in to try and set the break but it didnt work. He said, "I will be gone for two weeks but when I get back I will do surgery to repair the elbow." He came back, did the surgery and didnt charge me a dime for it except for meds. He has also euthanized a couple of my dogs and he is very compassionate. He does a good job and his staff are very nice.

The dr. here is very rude immediately wanted to preform a surgery on my cat without even one test preformed. The price of the procedure was outrageous!!! When I explained my financial situation and asked what my options where he said if I don’t have the money I can’t do anything about it he then walked out of the room and that was it. I returned home and my cat began to finish having a normal birth not only was his diagnosis 100% wrong but he was obviously only interested in the money aspect and had zero people skills. The lady’s at the front desk however were very nice and personable. I don’t recommend this place to anyone unless you like paying a lot of money for poor service and to be treated like trash.

Where do I begin... I guess the fact that I waz a new customer bringing a new 9week puppy patient for the very 1st time.. The doctor didn't introduce himself. No greeting what so ever! Just straight to checking his ears, giving him a shoot and putting medicine in his mouth! Didn't explain not one thing to me. I mean absolutely anything at all!!! I have never my whole life been treated that poorly!!!! I asked a question? He answered me like I was bothering him. When he left the Room, he left the room door wide open and didn't say anything.. Like sit here someone will be back in. Thanks for coming in ,nice to meet both of you, lnstructions on what takes place now that my puppy had his 1st shots an DEworming medicine or that's it or go out to the front desk?!? Not a word! I am not completely sure but from the research todayi did after leaving their I am pretty sure I waz ovecharged a ton.

Feeling really put off and negative about my experience here. I brought my dog in because he’s had diarrhea for a couple days. When the doctor first came in to see us he let my dog right out of the little room and into the waiting area. What if my dog had been aggressive? There were other animals out there too. The doctor used a devise to get a little sample of my dogs stool, then laid the device directly on the table in front of us and never cleaned up afterwards. The next thing I know the doctor is giving him 2 shots and an oral medication without explaining to me the price or effect. I asked him how much it would cost and he didn’t answer me, seeming to be preoccupied in his own head. He was in and out in 1 minute. The next thing I know, I’m paying 190$. My gut is telling me this feels like a scam.

My family and I have been going to Dr. Walia for as long as I can remember. He has saved my dogs life once before and I will always be grateful, but in a recent appointment he neglected to do any tests despite diagnosing my senior chihuahua with "a heart problem" and said that wouldn't need medication for 6-12 months despite being visibly not doing okay. When I voiced specific concerns he rode them off as just part of the "heart problem". After not feeling right about those answers, I had to go to the emergency vet in the middle of the night because my dog was getting worse. Once a second vet saw him they said he needed meds immediately, was experiencing a fever, had a heart murmur, and heart failure, and all my specific concerns that Dr. Walia dismissed the second vet confirmed as true. My pup has been in the hospital for almost 24 hours now with a different vet and this was immediately after seeing Dr. Walia the same day. My dog could have died had I not gotten a second opinion and especially if I had waited to take action like he suggested. I did not always feel listened to and this time it could have been fatal. At times I feel he is a great vet, but I am deeply disappointed and frankly very upset with his irresponsible advice and examination. I'm not saying don't go here, but I am saying demand to be heard or you might not and get a second opinion if something doesn't feel right.

My cat fell and had to have emergency surgery. They were able to get us in right away. Our young cat came to us feral and is therefore VERY skiddish. It was impossible to keep a cone on her as she is very crafty. I had to take her in twice to have the stiches re-done. Westgate hospital was very understanding, and able to fit me in each time. Not to mention they did not charge extra for the visits. I will be back

Unprofessional. They didn’t update online resources to reflect new hours (closing at 6pm changed to closing at 5pm), which is huge for someone who does not get off until 4:30-5pm and commutes from Lakewood. They mixed up my cats’ records with my dogs’ records. Doctor is rough with animals, even when they have hip dysplasia. Cherry on top, I had come on Saturday to pick up meds and there was no note about being closed on 11/27, thinking I would be able to swing by and pick up some of my dogs prescription food, I pulled up at 4:45pm to a closed office - with no notice posted about being closed or closing early. I’m looking for a new vet. Edit: they are closed on a Saturday. They should really be updating at the very least the website or sending emails to clients or SOMETHING. I understand the pandemic is changing things but I’m still working and having classes and planned to get my dogs meds today. This is ridiculous. (5/9/20)

I have been coming to Dr. Walia for my pet family care for years now and will happily share a recommendation! The staff has always been helpful and quick to respond with scheduling and answering questions. Phone or in person, they are kind and thoughtful. They are always pleasant to talk to and I feel like they genuinely care about me and my pets. One of the best qualities I can share with you about Dr. Walia is he shows a genuine mastery of his craft. While cats and dogs and animals of all sorts, I am sure visit him through out the day, he arrives smiling and looking as cool as a cucumber ( my appointments have generally been late afternoons.) He comes in smiling and happy to see us... Always gentle and kind with my pets. It amazes me how he calmly works with a gentle and masterful hand. All the while sharing his assessment and recommendations. I trust his judgement and will continue to recommend my friends and family to his practice. I am thankful for his service to our community. I am grateful for his staff and for the happy pets they have made in our home~

Have been taking my Boston Terrier here for a long time. The Dr. is oldschool and extremely knowledgeable and experienced, probably the most experienced vet in Tacoma. He is a straight talker, don't expect to have your hand held and to be comforted. Don't be fooled though because he does care and has a lot of compassion. He went way above and beyond to help me on one occasion. He will get right down to business diagnoses your animal and get him fixed quickly. If you need to get in fast this is the best place in Tacoma for fast service, they can almost always get you in same day. Don't hesitate to take your pet to Westgate, they are good.

I’ve been taking my animals here and the other clinic on 6th Avenue for over 30 years. Yes he does manhandle the animals sometimes so it seems like he’s a little rough but he’s actually very caring and his staff’s very caring and they’ve let me slide when I didn’t have money and I had to come back two days later to pay them and they’ve always been really kind and helpful to me at least so I could never say one bad word about this place

This clinic is simply the best. The staff are responsive, prompt, kind and caring. The clinic is clean and easily accessible from hiway 16. Dr. Walia does an amazing job with all of my pets. His pricing is affordable and he provides excellent care. I highly recommend Westgate Animal Hospital. Dr. Walia used to be my neighbor and I've been going to him ever since.

I only gave 1 star so.i could write this review. Several months ago I took a very sick , scared, pup to be put to sleep. Thought the procedure, that I had never had done before, was done the same by all vets, NOT!!!! . MY SWEET PUP HAD AN AWEFUL END. I will forever be so sad about this. No caring, no sedative, not even offered so I could choose. Then before I left he just dumped on a sack.of other pups like old trash. MY poor daughter still is a mess. Emma deserved better. Today my Rocky had to leave but I took him to north END vets in proctor. Pay was the same but he got a sedative, went to sleep peacefully. He was left in the room not thrown on a stack. Later the same day they sent me flowers and a nice card. Wish I could redo poor Emma's last day. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET FOR END OF LIFE SERVICES TO WESTGATE!!!! NOT IF YOU CONSIDER THEM FAMILY.

Do not get your dogs ears cropped here! Spent a lot of money to have the Dr completely butcher one of my dogs ears. After spending over $800 his left ear will never stand. This man is terrible at ear drops. Go to VCA Parkway and save yourself the embarrassment, and money.

Westgate is a great place, I have been taking my pooch there for years, since he was born. The Vet knows his stuff. He won't gush over ur pet like other Vets do. My dog had a red bump on his leg and before going there I took my dog to a different vet because I had a free first time check up to a new place. They wanted to x-ray and take biopsies of the bump, something that would be costing me hundreds of dollars before they knew what it was. I decided to bring my dog to Westgate and the Vet looked at it and told me exactly what it was, cancer and needed to be removed. Definitely recommend this animal hospital.

Love this place. They really came through for me during a difficult time; had to lay my Angel down. The vet was kind enough to come out to my car, administer the shot, so we didn't have to move my 80 lb.dog in pain. Forever grateful.

Has always been honest with me and I appreciate that about the Dr. and staff. I recently had to make the hard decision about my 13 year old dog. And the Dr. did all tests needed and was very kind to me.
