Real talk - vets in the area are under staffed and ALL busy. It’s just what’s going on right now. That is not exclusive to Spanaway Vet. Spanaway vet has always been helpful, respectful and caring for my multiple pets. My dog has hip dysplasia, so we’ve been to vets often his whole life - we know a good vet, and we know the difference of a bad vet. Twice now since I’ve moved to the area, spanaway has bent over backwards to help me in moments of crisis where something was wrong and he needed urgent care and emergency vets were all booked and wouldn’t take him. They probably hear that story all day, and yet they are still willing to help and see whatever they can do. Normal wellness care is also great, tender and caring. Vets in general are stressful for pets and every time they’ve done what they can to make my pets trust them and feel comfy. You can tell everyone genuinely loves animals (which is what you’d hope for at a vet office, but you’d be surprised). I HIGHLY recommend this vet. To all the folks mad about wait times, it’s just the world right now. I’d love for you to find one vet who wasn’t swamped in the area. Be nice to the front desk staff, they’re the ones fielding all the angry frustrated calls. It’s not their fault that the staff is only human and can only do so much in one day.

Wait time a bit long but all in all care was great,appt next day not great,I was scheduled as an urgent care yet the people who came in AFTER me got roomed first

I really like this vet. We take our puppy Olive in and her mama Minno. They are always very nice and explain what’s going on to you. The office ladies are great too ! Friendly and super busy all the time. They deserve a shout out too! Thanks spanaway vet :)

This vet clinic is amazing, they got my pup in quickly and the service was amazing from the moment I walked into the door to when we left. They staff is very kind and I felt we were heard and well cared for. I couldn't have been more impressed and highly recommend.

I had a snake with a rectal prolapse and was panicking because I couldn't find a vet after 72 hours. They got me in quickly, though I was a new patient, and got her all fixed up. They also were decently priced! Couldn't ask for a better experience, as they gushed over my little baby...

Last Saturday at about 4pm our 14 year old golden retriever wasn’t eating, drinking or able to get up on his own. I called about 15 local vets and 24 hour emergency clinics. They all were closed, not accepting new clients or at capacity. Spanaway vets told us to come on down. They stayed late and got him seen and sent him home with some pain meds. They got him in a couple days later to fix the rest of his issues. Dr Anderson is super awesome and the price was reasonable. Big thanks to you guys.

I had to make a same day urgent care appt for our dog, they were so nice and fast! I would definitely go here again. I live about 35 min away so they were even able to get my prescription into our local vet. Very communicative.

Got me in within two weeks of calling even though I was a new client. Quickly diagnosed my dogs issue and got us taken care of. Thanks for the great experience.

Myself and my pets had a great experience. Everyone from the support staff to the doctor was so kind, knowledgeable, and thorough. We have found our forever vet and we couldn’t be happier about that! Grizzly says thank you for all of the love and treats ????

Got there on time and waited another hour to be seen. Was seen and did a small exam, no bloodwork. Got some shots and was told to clean out my dogs ears… fine. Went to a groomer who said it looks more like an infection. Cleaned out my dogs ears and he had a seizure. Then got the suggested drops from the groomer. Gave the drops and the dog had another seizure. Called the vet who said soonest available was weeks out. If they would have addressed the ears immediately and took blood work like normal vets my dog may not have had seizures. Poor quality care. Too busy for me and my dog even with an appointment scheduled. My dog has had four seizures since the visit as of today. I called to try to get him in but they said they were booked out till the end of January. They only called after they saw this review in attempt to see him. He was seen December 11. It’s January 19.

Spanaway Vet has been my vet since 2004, when I moved here from Vermont. All of their staff are incredibly kind, caring, and supportive, even in difficult situations. They have been more important to me than my own doctors because they help me keep my dogs as healthy as possible - and give them the best quality of life possible. I absolutely love them and would not go elsewhere. I’m so very grateful for each and every member of their staff ???? Thank you!!

The office is so wonderful, sensing urgency and doing everything to get my pet seen. Oliver has seen Dr Laurel before for routine visits, so when he sees her on urgent basis he recognizes her and relaxes. She also remembers Oliver and the old bond from previous visits is connected again. We feel all the Drs are special and connected to us, so we’re treated like family. So comforting!!!

I have been bringing my dogs here for years, even after I moved to Tacoma. They know my dogs and love them just as much as I do. They are mid range as far as price goes but I think they are worth it and always make me feel like family when we come in. I have 2 year old 85lb and 75lb, and 6 year old 70lb doggo and they always take so much care and have so much patience when we come in. The two larger ones have anxiety and everytime we come they are aware and take that into consideration when doing an exam. Lots of treats and getting down on the ground to try and make them as relaxed and as comfortable as possible. Never dissatisfied with their service. Will continue to come back

Receptionist was very rude & unprofessional,

We've only been with Spanaway Veterinary for just over a year now but they make our family feel like we've been with them for a lifetime! We've had a couple pet emergencies in the short time that we've been with them and they've managed to get us in and get us taken care of when nobody else could! Although they are super busy as with every other Veterinary Service in the area, they managed to get us on a cancellation list and get us taken care of promptly! Their staff has really taken a beating with covid restrictions, their limited staff and the public's short supply of resources for Veterinary Care and limited patience and understanding, but yet every visit I am greeted with a smile and a warm welcome. It does trouble me however, that every visit I am witness to some kind of abuse by angered pet owners with their limited understanding of the rules and regulations that are out of the hands of the veterinary staff. I constantly see the employees of this location go above and beyond to try to handle each and every case that steps through their door in a timely, professional and caring manner. Me, my family and my pets are grateful to have each and every one of the staff that that show up to work to make a difference in a Pet's life. The de Leeuw family thanks you!

They are really busy here and, in my opinion, overworked. Probably an issue with the pet care industry because if you think that's a good reason not to try this place, you're going to find that same issue at literally every clinic in 2021. That said, they handle this really well and I swear the vet has better communication skills about health than most human doctors I've visited for myself. If you can get in here, you should.

Have been bringing my Australian Shepherd here since we got him in March. They take good care of him. Just recently had him neutered there and had no issues. Only negative, they misspelled my dogs name so they had issues locating us at times. His name is spelled like the actual singer he is named after (Lil Shawn Mendes) and they spelled it Mendez.. Just so everyone knows and I don't get negative responses....that was a joke complaint. I don't care about that at all, just find it funny my daughter named the dog after her favorite singer.

I’m very upset. I was scheduled for an appointment today with my babygirl Linda. I arrived at 6:45am. The appointment was made for 7:00am. I arrived and there was a sign on the door that they would open at 8:30am due to the snow and weather conditions. I waited and 9:00 am rolled around and no one should up. I called the office number multiple times no answer, and the voice message said they were closed.This was very unprofessional and this could’ve been avoided by a simple phone call or an email. We are in the era of good technology.

My bunny loves going to this vet! Noatter what he needs, he is well cared for and returns better than he went.

My first visit with my older Maltese went really well. Dr Wright listened carefully to my concerns, studied the chart notes from my previous vet, and explained what needed to be done and why. The fees were reasonable and the staff were very kind and gentle with my dog. I will definitely return and feel grateful that I have finally found a good clinic!

We have been taking our pets here for over 20 years. Everyone is super friendly. The vets are wonderful. We now have a dog that needs to be groomed regularly and he absolutely loves Mindy his groomer.

Great clinic very friendly and not to bad on the bank account as far as their costs...

Everyone was very nice and they took great care of our cat.

My rabbit had a severe emergency injury overnight that required stitches, and I called Spanaway Vet as soon as they opened this morning. They agreed to take my bunny (Max) in as an emergency walk-in patient. The staff was so sweet and caring with him (and me). I’d taken my other bunny here for a neuter and had a great experience, so I felt like Max was in good hands today. They ran an IV for Max, gave him pain meds and did everything they possibly could have done to keep him comfortable. His injury was severe and I thought I might lose him and need to euthanize him today, but Dr. Wright did her very best during surgery and my bunny is home ALIVE with me tonight. The cost was more than reasonable and I can’t thank Spanaway Vet and Dr. Wright enough for everything they did for us today. I’m really active with rescue animals and have a small farm of my own, including 4 bunnies. I’ll continue to make the hour drive to Spanaway Vet when things come up for my pets. It takes a special vet to care for exotic animals like these, especially to the level that they do. I’m a customer for life!

I am so grateful for the help provided by Spanaway Veterinary Clinic. The issue my dog and I were having was much less severe than other issues going on that morning, and my heart goes out to those families. Although I could observe that our problem was not the most urgent matter the staff were so professional to me. We were able to call when they opened the phone lines and secured a same day appointment from a 7:30 cancelation. I was not expecting to be seen so quickly, and something I thought that would be stressful all day was completed by 8:30 and we were on the road to recovery. I highly recommend their services and will certainly be coming back for all our pet needs. Thank you to all the staff at Spanaway Veterinary Clinic!

Been taking our pup since he was 9 weeks. He is almost 2 yrs old now. They are a very personable staff, communicate well and actually do seem to love what they do. They may be a lil on the pricey side and you could be on hold for quite a while (my only negatives) but it's worth it. Everytime we come we feel very welcomed. My dog always leaves content & not anxious or terrified. I'm so happy they do grooming here. Keeps it a one stop shop for us. Grooming is an 8 out of 10 stars if i were to grade them. Sometimes it's a lil shorter then i want it but it grows back. It's not the end of the world. We still continue to go here for care and grooming and will continue to go here in the future. A very good place for you and your favorite pal(s).
