First, let me say that the goal of this group is admirable. That's the only reason I'm giving any stars at all and I can't give zero stars. The execution of this goal, not so much. I, like many others, slogged through the extensive application, provided photos, proved my identity and was very clear about what dog I was looking to adopt. I was questioned about my own dogs' vaccination status, got their shots updated and waited. And waited. After about a week, I went to look at my preferred dog's profile only to discover it was no longer posted. I emailed the group because on their website, they stated that once a dog is adopted, their profile is immediately removed. The following day I received an email from Pate (one of the group's directors) who informed me that 1) my application was approved, but 2) the foster had fallen in love with the dog I wanted and was going to adopt him. To say I was stunned would be an understatement. I sent an email back to them expressing my disappointment and pointing out that without people to adopt, they would have more needy dogs than they could handle. I also told them that it was unprofessional and unfair to tell an approved adopter that the foster was getting preferential treatment. Not hearing back in a timely manner, I did a little investigating and found the 'president' of the organization's email and forwarded my email to her as well. So far, no response there either. I don't know if this whole thing is a scam, but it put such a bad taste in my mouth, I wanted to make sure that people are aware of the treatment they can expect to receive. The folks at Motley Zoo really need to re-think how they treat people, not just the dogs. In reply to the Organization - I should not have had to send a separate email to get any kind of response from you. If I failed to reply or was not timely responding to my clients, I would have no clients. Please stop blaming the individuals and look at the source of concern. With all due respect, you don't care a whit about people. What you fail to understand is without adopters like me, who love their animals and do whatever is necessary to ensure they have a good quality of life, you would be superfluous. Don't take the holier than thou attitude and attempt to blame me or anyone else before you have facts in front of you. I was totally transparent but you didn't feel it was possible to stay in touch in a timely manner until I called your organization out for what it is. Your response to my concern sure came a lot quicker than my inquiry to you about the status of the puppy I wanted to adopt. As of 11/20/21 - I learned today that this same review that appeared on Yelp has gotten me "not permitted" to view the page. Nice job Motley Zoo. You apparently can dish it out, but can't take it.

With all the rescues in Washington, I'm so delighted to have picked Motley Zoo(MZ) to volunteer. Seriously, MZ is an amazing place to volunteer your time and care for the animals. They have invested so much love, time, energy and money to create all of these systems and learning videos for us volunteers. Their love for animals, respects for human employees and volunteers shines brightly. You will be so impressed and proud to be a part of this organization!

I volunteer here at Motley and hands down, is the best place to be. People are incredibly helpful and don't judge you if you mess up. Their training program is just on point and heavily organized. An example of the quote "teamwork makes the dream work" is definitely this place. I'd highly recommend anyone who's interested to work/volunteer/adopt to be a part of this team.

I had a great experience as a volunteer at Motley Zoo. They have very good systems in place that helps everyone (specially the rockies) to know what to do and how to do it. The training schedule that they have for new volunteers is very informative. All the volunteers are super nice and demonstrate a neat love for animals; they really care about the organization and its purpose and make you feel part of it from the beginning. Motley Zoo is, without a doubt, the place I would go if I wanted to adopt a pet or if I needed a daycare for my dog. Not only they make sure all the dogs are acknowledged and treat with respect; they really care. Thank you for an amazing experience! I'm looking forward to keep contributing for your purpose!

Best animal rescue in Puget Sound area! They are devoted and dedicated to helping animal in all kinds of need. They support their foster families unconditionally. The daycare is so much fun, I wish I could volunteer with them but I have to work. Check them out at one of their many adoption events to pet cute dogs/cats/other and learn more about the organization!

Everyone at Motley Zoo is so friendly and I can tell they all really care about the animals. Everything they do is to make sure that the animals are safe and happy. Even the things like cleaning products are made with environmentally friendly material. It's such an amazing, organized place with workers who care about what they're doing, and I've had a great time volunteering here!

Wendy's puppy play class on Saturday is the best for our puppy Max so far. Max loves the daycare there too.

Motley Zoo is a very unique place!!! If you are looking for a friendly, very clean and organized place to volunteer this is the place! Everyone here is amazing and treats everyone equally and with kindness. I Love that the animals are first priority and that we work for them! I would definitely recommend if you are interested in volunteering even if it is for few months or weeks, they are very flexible and understanding.

What a joke of a place! Rude, high and mighty, unfriendly, and incompetent. I fear for the animals under their care. RUNNNNNNNN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION….AND THEN KEEP RUNNING. You’ll thank me later. Find a reputable place with kind and good people. This place is not one of them.

I don't think their volunteer communication was effective. I am unsatisfied with their email communication especially when it comes to volunteer who spent their time to help the Zoo.

We got a dog from Motley Zoo. We filled out the application and even on the application, we said we did not have time for a lot of training. The agency reported the dog was good with kids and cats. She wasn't at all. She went after our cats and tried to eat them. We asked for Motley to take the dog back after she bit three out of four cats. They lectured us like crazy. It was unbelievable. NEVER will use them again.

Was looking into getting kittens and came across Motley Zoo in my search. I was considering buying from a breeder but MZar had such detailed profiles and obvious care for their animals that I felt super comfortable adopting from them. Within 2 weeks of submitting my application (much faster than I expected), I brought home my two beautiful kittens. They're a rambunctious pair but I love them so much!

If you are thinking of adopting a new pet/companion, I recommend taking a look at this place. Very friendly staff that care about the animals they are trying to find a home for. I just got Tuca, a female calico cat and I am very happy with how the process went.

We reached out to Motley when we were ready to adopt a new dog after our Best Boy passed away after many years of being perfect. We loved how Motley carefully considered us, our lifestyle and environment and helped match us with a dog who would thrive with us (I can't remember who we were pointing towards, but it definitely wasn't the dog we ended up with lol). Paco Monkeybutt is such a perfect addition to our little family. We'd never adopted a puppy before and Motley Zoo has been there every step of the way, answering q's and providing advice. We also did the Puppy 101 through them as well as the daycare, which is really more like puppy boot camp. It's nice that the adoption place (that already knows so much about the dog) can also do this quality training - them knowing in advance his predilections helped us all hone in on ways to help him grow. And us. Because it's all usually about training the owner. He's now very well socialized (in spite of the pandemic), has lost his fear and aggression and is now friendly with everyone, plays well with our other dog and at parks, listens to us for the most part and actively knows he's wrong when he doesn't - we're in love! He's added so much to our lives in these brief 4 mos, it's hard to remember what life was like before this opinionated busy boy made his entrance. 5 stars!

seems like a good place but there is a lack of response and communication on their part. submitted a five dollar application (which I noticed other rescue places don’t typically charge for) received an email regarding documents which were already attached to the application, sent them anyway, and followed up but received no answer. I understand that they’re busy but a quick message could go a long ways! I want to give them another chance, though. So I will be patient and see what happens.

I paid for my skittish dog to attend 6 weeks of confidence class, and he's a brand new dog now. I will gladly pay for him to attend doggy daycare and know that the money is going to support a great organization. I kind of wish I had adopted from them at the beginning.

Sent all the required photos of our home and information asked for in the application. We were told that they saw no information on vet records or checkups, which was clearly in the information we sent. We also noted that a qualified family member was doing routine yearly health checks on all of our animals and also stated that we personally did all of our own vaccinations and kept records of doing so. The only response we received was how would we like to proceed. After replying to that last email we have not heard anything else. Seems like we were taken for the $5 application fee and got nowhere. Such a disappointment as we would have adopted both dogs and Motley Zoo would have got the $500 each for the puppies they were asking for as an adoption fee. UPDATE: 11/22/2020. Motley Zoo: It's to bad you blatantly LIED in your response to our review. Sadly your organization is in poor standing with many could be adopters that are well qualified such as ourselves and you have denied them due to your incompetence and lack of knowledge. Enjoy the $5.00 ripoff fee.

I have a few mixed feelings with this place and I hope to put someone elses mind at ease if they stumble across the same things. I also hope not to offend on any part as I'm just explaining how I understand. I recently adopted a puppy from motley zoo and like many on here i experienced a not so great onboarding. The application felt invasive as I've seen others state and then when being accepted the communication felt breaf/rude/poor .. almost an instant turn off and makes you kinda frustrated you spent all of this time trying to get this specail animal you saw in the picture.. on that part i do understand the negitive feed back on this place and thats the only reason im giving it less than a 5 star.. now with that being said! There is a full on reason that it may seem this way and I did not fully understand it until I got to meet the staff and doing allot of research in the background. They are taking in animals that are in super bad shape and needing of help and a new home.. They are doing all of the hard work.. neuter/spay.. starting pupping training.. shots and vacs.. making sure they are in good health.. giving them a space to live while a home awaits.. starting you off with a starting package with all documentations youll need to get started.. ((lets be real.. i had a dog i got from a farm before that came with NOTHING.. not even a leash/kibble.. the vet visits alone where horrible.. trying to crate train .. potty train.. all of that around 2 months of age.. NO THANK YOU)).. and all motley is asking is a few hundred to do that for you so you can be happy with an animal who wants to live.. in my case i felt like i got handed a golden ticket for free and would now on highly recommend adopting from here.. so overall.. expect some questionable communication but they are doing there best to give you something you'll hopefully be happy with as cheap as it can come .. and my pup has honestly been the best thing to ever happen in my life. At less than four months she was crate trained. At four months she knew sit, down, shake, roll over, spin, hivefive and working on "bang bang" (play dead) ..did amazing in a car.. gets along great with other animals.. and started to pick up on some of my anxiety habits and will place a paw or boop my leg... so this goes to tell you just how smart she is and something we did not expect to get At five months she was house trained as long as we stuck to a good schedule.. So if you are stuck at that spot of being mad or frustrated and wondering if it is worth the hassle, money and time.. Yes.. Yes it is I will be coming back in the future when I'm ready to make the family bigger
