Forest Heights Veterinary Clinic Portland, Washington

I did an insane amount of research on vets when we brought our golden retriever pup home this past summer, and from the very first interaction, I knew I made the right choice with Forest Heights! They are always willing to field my phone calls and answer my questions, they check in with us to see how Benny is doing after vaccines or other issues, and he always leaves his appointments happy and healthy. We live 45 minutes from the clinic, but I would happily drive double that distance to have my pup cared for by the team at Forest Heights.

Caring staff and excellent service. My husband had gone in to take our dog for an appointment on a busy friday while I was at home and my water broke and I called him to take me to the hospital. The staff let him leave our dog there while he went to get me and his parents came later to pick up our dog. This is one example of their excellent customer service where they went above and beyond. A few months later we took our dog to an emergency appointment at a pet hospital in hillsboro and they sent the records to forest heights. I had a call first thing the next morning asking how our dog was doing since that visit.

I could shout from the rooftops how much I love this staff and Dr. Tomschin. After a very long nightmarish night in an emergency department I contacted forest heights. They got us in same day and came up with an action plan immediately and gave periodic updates. I expressed I was really unhappy with what happened at the emergency department and they made sure I felt extremely comfortable and well informed. We did a drop off visit (COVID and getting fit into a full schedule) and my pup was with them for several hours, and I finally felt comfortable enough to sleep. I knew he was in great hands. Dr. Tomschin explained everything so well and was very patient with all of my questions and my sleep deprived mind. All staff that answered the phones didn’t hesitate to get any information I requested right away. We recently moved across town and my husband and I were discussing asking for a recommendation for a new vet but this practice and the wonderful people are 100% worth the drive. I’m eternally grateful to them for the excellent care they consistently deliver.

I could not imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Mento has a third sentence for excellent care for my dog, remembers her name, and expresses not only love for the pets that come in but is incredibly careful and professional in everything she does. I recommend Dr. Mento and her team without any qualification at all

We have been seen by each vet at this clinic for many years now. They are all wonderful and really eager to spend as much time as you need discussing your pet.

Thought I found a good Vet in my area however after discovering they dispense expired medicine, flea and pain, I am changing vets again.

Dr Mento saved our cat , Humphrey’s life . She spent a LOT of time with him keeping him hydrated and cared for . I can never thank her enough ! I moved to deep SE, but I will still travel to keep going here because it means a lot to me to feel so confident and happy with them !!!! They always set up appointments so I can bring my cat and two ( now three ) dogs to see dr mento at the same time. They are amazing ! Marissa and all the front staff are amazing !!!

Excellent staff, very caring! Dr Tomshin quickly pinpointed my cat's dietary needs and his stomach immediately calmed down. Everyone knows my cat personally. Highly recommend this place.

We've had an overwhelmingly positive experience with FHVC. Dr. mento is incredibly kind and knowledgeable. And every single person there is awesome. Every other vet we saw seemed to only care about CYA. Dr. Mento was honest and caring every time. And she takes the time to explain things in laymans terms. Best vet I have ever had.

Horrible experience. They regularly try to up sell unnecessary treatments and recently strung us along on a kitten adoption during which they either lied to us or are terribly disorganized. And by us I mean me and my four year old child who is now devastated. Despite the convenience of the location we will be switching vets and adopting only from OHS from now on.

When our veterinarian of over three decades retired, we never thought that he could be replaced. Fortunately, my wife tried Forest Heights Veterinary Clinic on SW Barnes Rd. Our pug was eventually treated by all three of their wonderful vets. All three, and the staff, are wonderful. Their office manager is wonderful. We have nothing but positives to say about the entire clinic. Sadly, our beautiful Zoe passed away last week. Their professional care and empathy was exemplary. I have been in private practice for over three decades (podiatrist) and I strive to practice at the same level of professionalism and care they have attained. If all of our physicians demonstrated the same level of care as this clinic, we would all be extremely happy with the entire medical profession. Jay Goldstein

You will not find a better vet anywhere. They are simply the best. Every staff member is kind, caring and professional. They truely care about the wellbeing of your pet and are conscientious of your pet's feelings and yours!

Staff is always friendly and helpful. The vet also told me about a cheaper/natural options (like organic yogurt instead of a probiotic medication) which is greatly appreciated! Will always bring my pup olive here.

We have been taking our pets (cats and dogs) to this vet for over five years. We love this place! The staff is fantastic and the care is always great.

My experience with this clinic was so negative, I wish I could give it zero stars. I took a 6 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback puppy there for rabies and a microchip. I intentionally sought this clinic out because they use a brand of microchip that I wanted implanted. It was a longer drive for me coming from Vancouver, WA and more expensive, but ultimately I was happy. Two years later I brought a second 6 month old Rhodesian Ridgeback to them for the same services (microchip and rabies). Within hours my puppy had facial swelling, a DOCUMENTED side-effect of the Rabies vaccine from the manufacturer. I called the clinic immediately to report the reaction; I was called ridiculous and told there was no way the swelling could be related, even when I emphasized that the side-effect is clearly listed in the included material from the rabies vaccine manufacturer. The clinic then told me I needed to return, pay an additional $50.00 office visit plus any other expenses to diagnose where the swelling was coming from. I declined and treated him with my local vet. A few months later the microchip they implanted in him between his scapula migrated about 10" down his side to the point of his shoulder (where the humerus connects with the scapula). They called the chip manufacturer to report the movement and it was replaced for free which was the right thing to do; however, I was treated very poorly at the clinic during the procedure. The entire staff was very abrasive and hostile with me. I never returned.

We brought our dog here for the first time after relocating to the area from the Midwest. All of the staff from the front desk to the vet were kind and welcoming. The vet took the time to listen to our concerns about a new allergy our dog was having, and discussed other options before jumping right to medicating him. The vet and assistant took the time to get to know our dog, petting and giving him treats to make him feel comfortable. It was a great experience and we look forward to continuing our car with this clinic.

Although we've moved from the Portland area to Wilsonville, we've decided to remain at Forest Heights for vet care for our dog, Tucker. Some things we just don't feel comfortable about changing.

I just took my diabetic cat here. What a great experience - he was very grumpy and Dr Mento and the vet tech, Jennifer, handled him so well. They got us in and out and all my questions fully answered. I really do appreciate their knowledge and proffesionalism and also their friendliness - thank you!!! Kris

I have been taking my pets to Forest Heights for a few years now and have been very pleased with the attentive care they have received. Drs Mento and Loennig are thorough and very compassionate. The team of veterinary technicians, assistants and support staff are excellent as well. I appreciate the high quality of care that this vet clinic provides and that they endeavor to make each visit as stress free for my pets (dog & cats) as possible. I would highly recommend this hospital!

I love this place almost as much as my dog. The veterinarians know their medicine, the staff is great, and overall a great experience. She has seen every Dr at the clinic; I really appreciate the level of care and attention from everyone there. My dog had a miserable skin rash taken care of in just one visit. Definitely recommend Forest Heights Veterinary Clinic.

Unfortunately, I have to rate them as mediocre. Like others say, they are compassionate. However, they are very unorganized and don't communicate well amongst the staff. For example, they often forget to call with test results. Here is my experience: One time after receiving test results, I went to pick up medication. My pet needed treatment for multiple things. They told me this medicine would treat ALL of my pets ailments. They were wrong. They COMPLETELY FORGOT to give me medication for one of the ailments. Therefore, my pet went untreated for weeks!! They also forget crucial details about your pet, which causes so many problems. My animals have had their illness and treatment prolonged multiple times due to their communication issues. I would NOT recommend this office to anyone. To Forest Heights: I think you are good people! Please take the time to explain things to your customers. This includes disease information and treatment options. Please make sure you listen and take notes, so that your patients get healthy as quickly as possible. Please make sure to explain which medication is for which disease. Please also make sure you call customers (ASAP) when test results are back. Pet owners sit and wait nervously when their pets may be sick. Please make sure the front desk staff is all on the same page with the doctors. It is tough when we are told different things. Everyone is so nice here. And I'm sure you are all capable doctors. If the office improves in these areas, it would be a 5-star establishment for sure.

My 14 year old dog has been going here since the week I got him, and they have always been great with both of us. They're incredibly helpful, friendly, give great advice on available options, and obviously care a great deal about the animals that they are treating. I would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Everyone provides the best service, in the greatest caring environment possible. I always feel comfortable with diagnosis that are given me, and they go out of there way to make sure everything is explained in depth. They always take there time and answer all the questions I might have. They treat animals better than you get treated at your doctors office. I highly recommend them.

I've taken my kittens and cats to Forest Heights for over 5 years after hunting around for compassionate, ethical veterinarians in my area. Dr. Swarmer and Dr. Wilson have been wonderful with our furry family members from first visit to last visits. Their gentleness with the cats and sensitivity to how to keep them from being more freaked out after the car ride, makes visits less tramatic. They are professional and also sensitive to financial investments needed at times and alternatives to monitor health that are more cost effective. The long time staff always greet my babies by name (and me). During end of life times they have cried right along with me. We couldn't ask for better care.

I've seen countless veterinarians in southwest Portland over the last 25 years. I can say with confidence that Dr. Tracy Mento is one of the best. She applies a philosophy long forgotten in todays make money fast society. Instead of rushing you and your pet through the doors, Dr. Mento takes time with you and your pet to ensure your pet recieves the accurate diagnosis and proper treatment. She also makes sure your questions are answered and you feel comfortable with the course chosen for you pet. You will not feel rushed or hurried!!! She truly cares about your pet and you as a customer. Other big corporate clinics just try to see as many pets as possible and rush you through. Not so with Tracy! Once you've seen how she works with you and your pet, you will never think of going to another clinic again. You can and should trust your pet's care and needs with Dr. Tracy Mento at Forest Heights Veterinary Clinic!

I created a Google+ account just to give this clinic a 5 star review. They are willing to go above and beyond to provide the best service and care for my kitty. I love how all of the staff members are so kind and helpful, and that they address all of my concerns thoroughly. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who is looking for a vet clinic they can trust!

These people are wonderful! They always go above and beyond the call of duty. They've consistently shown extraordinary compassion for our dogs and have always been willing to go the extra mile to give us extraordinary service. We've been going to them since they opened their offices and have never encountered a vet before that offers such top quality care.

Our two dogs have been getting their veterinary care here for over 5 years. Drs. Wilson and Swarmer and the entire clinic staff are knowlegeable, efficient, and compassionate. They do follow-up phone calls when a pet was recently seen and let us know about test results when available. Also, they will try to fit you in the schedule when a pet has an acute illness. I would highly recommend this clinic. We are fortunate to live close by. The clinic is spotless, in a safe area, with ample parking.

The doctors are fantastic, the staff wonderful with a great sense of humor and good addvice. They have handled my very difficult Chow with no complaints! The care and follow up are excellent. They telephone call or I go in for a recheck with my dog.They have handled emergencies for my dog quite often without complaint fitting him into their schedule... the best group of three veterinarians and staff I have found in 25 years of owning dogs.
