We took our doxie in after swallowing a chicken bone. Got us in quickly without an appointment and set us up at the emergency vet for surgery. They were very professional and very caring.

I cannot speak highly enough about Rutland and Mechanicsville Animal Hospitals. For this visit, my female dog got sick over the holiday weekend (of course) and her specialist recommended being cleared at her primary vet first. Rutland was able to get her seen quickly. The staff treat her like a queen, as she prances off to go visit all her friends. The doctor was thorough and friendly, even on a day that was slam packed for him. This group saved my male dog’s life in March, and have been treating my animals for over a decade. Amanda Johnson is definitely a star at their front desk. Highly recommend this office!

Dr. Kilgore is very knowledgeable and has always taken good care of my pets.

My 11 year old girl went in with an eye issue. They did a thorough examination and diagnosed her issues and provided the medication she needed. The vet and staff were friendly and great with my old girl who’s a bit nervous at the vet.

Dr. Duval was very knowledgable about Bennie’s condition and gave us some new tipsnto help with his allergies!

Fantastic veterinary hospital. I've always received exceptional care from the doctors and staff.

Despite being slammed due to the second location needing to close for a week, they were very responsive and were able to fit my pet in for a procedure that couldn't wait. The vet was knowledgeable and explained what I needed to know, and I didn't spend a lot of time waiting around. I will definitely use them again!

They are great vets but do not explain the cost of items and tests at all. It’s always a surprise when you get the bill and this most recent trip was almost $400 with no explanation before hand. We are fortunate in that we could pay it but many people would not be able to especially during the holidays

Rutland is and always has been professional, polite and very caring and efficient. All traits and procedures performed with a very caring and gentle touch.

I just wanted to take a minute to say that i definitely recommend this place, Dr.Dugan is wonderful! She is knowledgeable and so caring, we took our boy (a 10yr. old bird dog) Tanner there for the first time a couple weeks ago... he wasn't doing so well, and Dr.Dugan went above and beyond to help find out what was going on... unfortunately it turned out not to be such good news, and had to make the difficult discussion to send him to heaven ???????? everyone there though was so great through the whole process, and we can't thank them enough for everything they did! ❤

Excellent emergency service! We love Dr Dugan!! Her expertise and experience in Veterinarian medicine is priceless. Customer Service is excellent. Everyone here is friendly and they take very good care of my Tinky!!

I was told by the receptionist to bring my bulldog in to check for active labor. I live an hr and half away , told the receptionist I just had a new born and was going to come, i called to tell them I was on the way, I may be there at 7 when they close - Needless to say, they told me to go to a ER because I would be there at closing. I would recommend more compassion..wish I could leave 5 stars.

Super friendly staff, very knowledgeable Doc and convenient location. Could use more parking, tough since it shares space with a restaurant and another retailer.

What started as a staff scheduling error, turned into a very unprofessional interaction. Very disappointed in the lack of communication and professionalism. Staff member scheduled a vaccine visit with a tech. Unbeknownst to us, this appointment was scheduled erroneously(staff error) and needed to be rescheduled as a different appointment type. Staff changed the appointment to a different date and time without speaking to me and confirming my availability, consent, and confirmation of appointment. I then received harassing voicemails from the practice about “missing” an appointment that I didn’t not schedule or consent to and notified me that we were unable to schedule future appointments. I called the practice to work through the issue and was spoken to very rudely and left on an infinite hold. I am honestly shocked by this level of unprofessional conduct.

The staff is very helpful and friendly, one of our all time favorite vets, Dr. Greene, just started there and she's been helping our "kids" for years, highly recommended!

Dr Dugan is the best if you have a cat

Dr. Enge has been the best vet for our 2 small dogs. He has shown nothing but kindness, compassion and caring anytime we were there. We just found out this morning he is no longer at this place of practice. For the life of me, I don't know why his clients weren't notified that he was leaving so we could have thanked him and started looking for a new provider. He will be missed!

Dr. Kilgore is simply the best. His love for animals and his knowledge about how to treat them (and their owners) is unequalled. He's been my vet for decades and I won't consider seeing anyone else.

Horrible service, not responsive and obviously don’t care about your pet. Called on early Monday morning because our dog had a 2nd seizure. Talked to someone who said the doctor would call back that day with medication options since they’d seen him recently and knew his history. No one called back. We called back on Tuesday and now they say to come in until we remind them of the conversation from the previous day. They say someone will call back later that day. Again, no call. We’ll be getting our records and finding a new vet.
