1 star is generous. Do yourself and your pet a favor and avoid this place at all costs. Unprofessional, inconsiderate, and short staffed. They will allow your pet to sit unattended in a crate for 8+ hours, even with a scheduled appointment. Do not waste your money or risk your pet’s health and well-being. Find a vet that actually cares about you as the owner and your pet. They fail to communicate and therefore waste your time. They are clearly understaffed for the amount of clients they have elected to take care of, and it shows in the lack of service they provide. 0/10.

I came for early morning drop off and it was pretty intense with the line waiting. I still give it 5 stars because no one in line complained, the animals all did well and the staff moved the line along as best they could while giving great customer service. It took a while but I was pleased and my dog seemed very happy when I picked her up later that day. I'd definitely recommend.

Be careful with this, and any other Banfield. If you don't have the means or needs for a "wellness plan" and they know it, at least at this one, you nor your pet will get thorough service. Even if your have the lowest tier plan, it's somehow still not enough to get proper care. Our sick, and still sick cat, went for a blood test at Banfield, as a urine test is not possible with his weight. I won't go into his history, but his issues are many and unexpected. $270 later, we're told he has no abnormalities with his blood, and no other information. Given a few medications for a possible UTI. Also recommended to get him a special dry food, though we said he wasn't eating dry food barely, if at all. I'm syringe feeding him medicine and water and food now. He is doing somewhat better, though not appreciably. In total, he was in and out in 30 minutes, and I have a hard time believing anything meaningful was done besides his rabies shot. I appreciate that they continue to be open for services, and even though I'm sure they're busy, I would appreciate a little more concern paid for what it costs. We've been to many standalone vets that pay more care and concern for less. We will be taking him back to the vet, just not Banfield.

We’ve been very pleased with the care our large dog has received here. It’s very convenient having a Vet inside the Petsmart.

Great experience. Been going here for 3 and a half years. Both my pets are well cared for. Staff always loves seeing my cute boys. Doctors are always extremely knowledgeable and the preventative care has helped my 7 year old pup stay healthy and active as if he were 2 or 3.

I am so happy to have made them my dogs primary vet care. They have an adfordable plan, they do drop off appointments and they are good with the dogs. Only complaint is i wish they weren't a different complete entity as the salon, and synced more together.

My cat broke his leg about 3 Saturdays ago, and of course it was after hours of Banfield. So, he was taken to Dogwood emergency vet and they put a cast on which stayed on for the week coming up to when Banfield was suppose to change it to make sure his leg was doing okay. The night that he had it changed, it came off. Not because he was biting at it or because he was rough housing(the vet had to put him under to put the cast on so when he got home, he was still under sedation and he fell right to sleep) I woke up around 8 o’clock the next morning to my cat without a cast. Of course, the mechanicsville Banfield didn’t have any openings so i called all the other Banfield s around me and short pump told me they could squeeze him in, so I took him there. When I got there, I was told it was going to be around $96 to have the cast redone and then six hours after I left, I got a call saying that the man at the front desk did not pull up the right casting, so it was actually going to be $240 to redo the cast. After quite a few words were said, most of them not being very nice, they finally agreed to change the pricing to $100. I was also told that if his cast came off within the next three weeks, they would do it again for free. After a week of having that cast on, it fell off just like the first one. So this morning I had to take him to short pump to get his cast redone again. Then, four hours after I drop him off I got a call saying that the only part of today’s visit that would be free is the recasting, not the sedation, which I had not been informed of until after I had dropped him off and left him there for four hours. Banfield’s staff is very friendly, and great when it comes to vaccines, but nothing else. I have had so many issues getting my cat in to see them, because of mistakes that they made, and the only compensation I have received is getting a $100 credit from Mechanicsville for a $175 recasting, and paying more at short pump than I was originally told. if your animal has issues such as a broken bone or anything serious, I do not reccomen Banfield, but if your animal just needs shots or a check up, they are great.

I had moved from South Richmond to Varina and tried to stay with that Banfield. Soon that was not accommodating for schedules. So glad to have found this location and Dr Reaves is awesome!!! Our babies love them too!

My dog has been under Banfield care since he was born. I traveled a lot in my former life situation, so I would spend most of my time in Seattle and a few months a year back in Richmond. Having the ability to take him to either location was so convenient. They share access to his medical records so there was no duplication and such. I like their wellness program because most of the routine care is covered and its easy to budget knowing you won't have a thousand dollar vet bill.

Christinia that works the front desk is very good at her job. She is always willing to help anyway she can and is a great asset to Banfield. She use to work at the one at Virginia Center Commons and I don't know why she left but, it is a shame. I started taking my dogs to this one because she is well worth the trip.

Love this Banfield. They really care about your pet and their well being. My pet is on a wellness plan and we renewed it this year because it's such a better way to pay for your pets' care.

Being 23 years old with their first puppy, I had many questions and many worries. Banfield has made having Remi a complete breeze for me! The staff is absolutely OUTSTANDING, they answer any question you have and never let anything get in their way with the bond they have with their "patients." Remi LOVES coming in for her visits and gets excited when she sees the staff. I can't name just one person there who is outstanding because EVERYBODY goes above and beyond to make sure each pet gets the attention and care they need. I will NOT go anywhere else besides Banfield in Mechanicsville!

I love these guys! They treated my baby Madison like she was their own. She got really sick from her vaccines because she was soo small (2.5lbs) and I brought her back the next day, they made sure she was safe and comfortable during her stay while they monitored her. Now every time it's time for her vaccines, they give me the proper medications to handle her reactions, if any, so that's she's comfortable throughout the first 48 hours....Excellent staff!!!!

I live 2 hours away and opted to take my foster dog here. I was very uncomfortable with the ones in Northern VA. I also couldn't afford the hundreds of dollars other places would have charged. He has since been adopted by my sister who continues to take him here. So far I have been very happy. Dr. Lovern and the other vet also don't over-vaccinate. They try to protect your dog without doing unnecessary things. The front desk people are always super nice too. I love it.

I've been with Mechanicsville Banfield for 4 years and this is the best vet experience I've ever had. They've cared for my dogs providing expertise, timely service and compassion through good times and bad. They provide excellent care for my English Bulldog! I wouldn't go anywhere else...and I've been to the private vets in the area and this is WAY BETTER! With a pet plan it's also very affordable. Oh, Big George loves to go to the vet!

Totally love love love Dr. Lovern. She moved from one Banfield to another and in turn we switched Banfield's and now drive extra distance just for her. She is just amazing. Very knowledge and patient with wonderful bedside manner.
