They don't do their jobs, we the tax players have to do it for them, so what's the point of animal control?

Just adopted Junebug (aka Perri) last Sunday, February 21st. The staff are so nice and clearly love the little souls in their care. I wanted to let those considering adoption to take the shelter behavior description as a guide. Most of these dogs and cats are under tremendous stress and the behavior they exhibit there may not be their true nature. Juno was described as a ‘mouthy and biter’ pup and had guarding issues with food and toys. She has shown to be, yes, a little bite-ey, but not in an aggressive manner & we have not witnessed any guarding issues. She is super responsive to commands and so smart. Not at all what we expected, but were willing to take that chance. It’s only been 4 days but we made a perfect addition to our family.

I just adopted Gracie and it was a fantastic experience! The staff was amazing! Even with all of the COVID-19 procedures, it felt like I was in and out. Everything is clean and well-maintained. This is my second time adopting from PWC and I would highly recommend them.

Your website is awful and not user friendly. Can not find a listing of pets waiting to be adopted.

Everyone was very helpful and the dogs looked well cared for. We adopted one of their dogs and are very happy with him.

Honestly, one of the best experiences I had with an adoption agency. It was extremely easy to adopt an animal (we adopted a cat) from them. We just booked an appointment and we went to look at a specific cat, and we ended up taking him home the same day. We finalized his adoption and all the paper work and adoption fees under an hour. They made everything so clear and have the impression that they care and love their animals. The adoption process is so simple unlike other adoption centers where they make you jump through hoops of fire only for them to decline you. I appreciate this center so much for being able to give us our new favorite family member. I 100% recommended this place and if you ever find an animal you like from here, definitely go for it!!

Great staff. Great experience. Knew I would be adopting more than one dog in the future. Introduced me to a bonded pair of dogs that needed to be adopted togeather. Couldn't have asked for a better match. Thank you all so much. Harley and Lucy love there new home. .

I love visiting the shelter and seeing all the animals that they have for adoption. The staff is always very friendly when you come inside of the shelter, and they usually leave you to look around with no problems. The animal is usually seem well taken care of and the displays are clean most of the time. The animals are loud, especially the dogs. That's not their fault, I think they are just excited to see people because they know those are potential adopters. But the loud barking can be scary to some kids. Luckily, they offer ear plugs. This is a great place to adopt a cat. If you want to adopt a pitbull, the shelters also fantastic because 9 out of 10 times, that is all that they have. I went to visit today and out of the 20 or so dogs that they have on display, only three of them were not pitbulls.

I have volunteered for rescue groups and other shelters before and I have to say that the any animal that unfortunately does not have home will be lucky to be here. Animals are well taken care of and their well-being is always staff's priority. I was reading some negative reviews and was surprised how some people demand being a center of an attention..sad. This place is focusing on helping animals, often abused by people who bring those exact animals to this shelter. This shelter takes in animals that were refused a aecond chance by "non-kill shelters"! This is a place that keeps many dangers of the street so that people and animals can coexist. Sorry if you think that the answering your call to the shelter in times convenient for you is more important than that person in attending to the wounded animal. I think if you feel that you are a priority over the animal when you want something from the shelter you have no business to do even calling the animal shelter.

Horrible service and not the best treatment with dogs. Especially big dogs. I took two big dogs (sharpie mix & pitbull) there. They were lost so I took them to the shelter so they could help me locate the owners. The dogs got excited when they saw the other dogs outside there and ran to them. The dogs I took didn't have a leash. One of the staff immediately started yelling at the dogs which was causing stress to the dogs. She had a little dog on the leash and instead of picking up the dog, she held the little dog up by the leash (the little dog was choking on the leash) trying to get the big dog to not "attack" the little dog. She ended up kicking one of the big dogs. Another staff began also yelling at the two big dogs. The dogs I brought it had been sweet and calm the whole time they were with me and didn't show any aggression. The big dogs were finally able to be put on a leash and brought inside. The lady who took my information was not very helpful and kept ignoring questions that I asked. Thankfully the owner of the dogs were located. Not all the staff are mean, some were really sweet with the dogs and they were able to calm the dogs down. But they do have staff that are rude and mean.

Review of the dog park: Would be nice if the grass wasn't taller than my dog. Its pretty clear the facility neglects this area... The grass has probably not been cut for 2 weeks and my dog can't enjoy it because he can barely make it through the grass. He can't even see where the toy lands when I throw it. The water area is filthy and there is no shade provided anywhere. I'll try it a couple more times because it's close but come on. That shouldn't be the only reason to use your dog park.

This is where I obtained my dog. I love her more than anything. She is kind of broken but I don't think that's the shelter's fault. I am forever grateful to them for housing her and caring for her until we found each other.

Adopted our second cat from here, she wasn’t neutered but that’s okay we paid for it at a vet and she’s really shy but she’s quite friendly it’s been three years since we got her and she’s such a cute.

Went to go pick up my dogs and they told me that they were humanly euthanized for being agressive. But yet when I went back to look for them they had a dog ready to jump out the cage and attack me. But was ready for adoption. My dogs was a father and son. I highly recommend taking somewhere else if u giving your dog away. The staff there are not happy with their job because I've seen the looks on their faces when a new animal comes in. So be careful.

A well maintained and managed facility. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They accept animals that can no longer be cared for. Came by for the Empty the Shelter event. Happy to see how many people came out to support animal adoption.

After i read a few inaccurate reviews i would like to provide a review too. I adoped my dog there myself and visit regularly as i volunteer there. Of course the shelter is crowded, because the board of supervisors of Prince William County does not approve the new Shelter to be built and they keep putting it off for 2020. This means for example, not all the cats available can be on display for adoption, because they have no physical space for them other than a back room. Stafford has 1/4 of the animals (Yearly) of what the PWC Shelter has yet the new shelter that was supposed to be built for ~ 6 million got cancelled and is back in planning. Stafford got a new one for 5 million. Regarding the staff: if someone drops off their animal everybody that loves animals is a bit nervous. People at the shelter cannot understand how someone could just abandon a family member. I had never seen an employee there beeing rude or doing a bad job at taking care of the dogs. They have limited resources and yes are sometimes overcrowded and have a lot of government regulations. But they are doing their jobs and the animals there are well taken care of.

I adopted my dog from the shelter and have been there a few times to look at cats. when I adopted I paid $45 for it and the front desk staff was helpful and had info about my dog available. Times I visited the kennels it was clean, each dog had a bed and toy. Some dogs had bandanas on. When they showed me my dog we went out to a pretty garden area that was also full of toys and even a small doggy pool. The cat area is real small, and they told me they could not display all kitties because of lack of space. Maybe they need more resources, but it looks to me that they are doing the best with what they have.
