My 5 month old boxer was bitten in the face by a copperhead by our pool. At 9:30pm. Face swelling, shaking, venom dripping from the bite. EMergency vet immediately treated her with iv fluids and ante venom they had to get from the hospital. One overnight and home. Wonderful treatment. Thank god they were open.

Charlie had shoulder pains and was suffering at home. We drove to MedVet and were instructed to call from the parking lot (COVID protocols). I was told the wait may be up to 2 hours, but they came out to pick up Charlie in about 40-50min. They took great care of him and told me what to discuss with our main vet after the weekend. Thank you MedVet.

How can you call yourself an emergency vet? I have an 11 year old Akita who was in severe distress and showing signs of bloat, and what was I told? Sorry, we cannot take him because we are at capacity. What? Do you not prioritize emergencies? Do you not prioritize a dog who is dying over other emergencies? Thank god I found another emergency vet in Fairfax who was also at capacity but took my dog because they realized the gravity of the situation. If you are not going to take true emergencies, do not call yourself an emergency vet.

No words can explain how grateful we are for the care that was given to my youngest dog "Lil Bit". She is home doing very well from a near death experience. If it hadn't been for the professionalism and skills they bring to the table she would never have pulled through. Thanks to all the staff my wife and I are forever grateful.

Took my dog here on Sunday at 4 pm and was turned away. Said they had too many emergency issues to see my dog. Told me to try one in Springfield. There was only 4 other cars in the parking lot while I was there and some one was walking out with their pet after being treated. while I was on the phone with them.

I cannot say enough about this wonderful hospital. I was treated with such care and respect with numerous staff members, including the doctors, technicians, and receptionists. In particular is Dr. Mansel, Samantha (technician) and Cal and Drew(receptionists). Cal was happy to run back and check on my pet and provide pictures when I couldn’t go back and visit myself. They continuously provided water and snacks to keep my family comfortable, and answered any and all questions I had. I was also provided with timely updates whenever I needed them. I was quoted a wait time of 4 to 5 hours at my arrival, but it was actually more like 2 hours from start to when my pet was hospitalized. I was provided with a thorough estimate clearly outlining the doctor’s plan with each cost allotted. I was then able to discuss with Cal various payment options (including CareCredit, funding, and rescue outreach) to make sure my pet was taken care of without worrying about the costs. Yes, the bills can get up there, but think about what it’s like at a human hospital. No other hospital in northern virginia seemed willing to see my pet in time of need, but MedVet opened their doors and welcomed us in. I will be eternally grateful to them for saving my dog’s life.

Caught my son's dog with grapes. They are highly toxic to dogs. It cost me over $300 just for them to give him something to make him throw up. Though I appreciate the availability for this emergency, I still they are way over priced.

Flashback to September, the middle of the night, I’ve called all 6 of the emergency vets closest to me but no one had room to see my cat. Medvet was also full and unable to admit any other patients, but offered to examine her and do an x-ray to make sure there wasn’t a blockage or any other her time-critical potentially lethal issue. They were amazing, saw her shockingly quickly and were able to rule out a medical emergency and administer some medicine so that we could both sleep better knowing she would be fine until I got her into her primary care vet. So grateful for the amazing staff! Be kind to your local emergency vets and vet techs, they’re so overwhelmed right now and still doing their best to take care of your animals.

I will start by saying I do not write reviews, but the overall experience at MedVet was so poor that I had to warn other pet owners. 1. Treatment estimate: After speaking with the vet for a few minutes we were informed that we had a number of options, but were only given two. The first option, at home care second, two night stay at the hospital. This resulted in me asking basic problem solving questions to understand why a two night stay was necessary for the treatment plan. By asking basic questions I developed the treatment plan: 1. bloodwork, 2. xray, 3. depending on the results we will determine if an overnight is necessary. An emergency vet clinic should prepare treatment plans with actual options rather than providing extremes to get people out of the door. 2. Overall professionalism: I had a 3 minute post care follow up call with Dr. Jean Loonam who stated "I have to go, I don't have time for this." After I asked if she conducted a fecal exam to rule out parasites, since the ultrasound was clear. It was shocking to hear a veterinary professional tell me they don't have time to conduct a simple test after I had been waiting in their parking lot for 4 hours. 3. Pet Care: My dog was returned to me with dried and matted anal gland fluid on his tail and backside, as well as visible surface hemorrhaging on his leg. I understand that blood vessels may burst, but I should have been notified that this happened. There is absolutely no excuse for a dog to be returned smelling awful with matted anal gland fluid. This raises concerns that either the facility is unsanitary or the team does not care about the animals they are supposed to be treating.

I'd discovered some concerning symptoms with my kittycat, and because my regular vet was overbooked they recommended to go straight to MedVet. Everyone at MedVet was extremely helpful, kind, and understanding. They took great care of my cat, ascertained that the symptoms I've observed have passed, and assured me that it's not an unusual case. Regardless, they've done a complete examination with X-ray and bloodwork to ensure that we didn't miss anything. To the whole crew of MedVet, a huge thank you from the bottom of mine and my cat's heart.

I had to take my Doberman to MedVet when he starting coughing badly on a holiday. While they wait was long, there were several emergencies that were more crucial then my dog, the care he received and the customer service was amazing. Due to COVID I could not go in with him but the staff member that came to get him from the car clearly explained everything and handled my dog very professionally. My dog was seen by Dr. Compton and I can’t say enough good things about her. She was caring, compassionate, thorough, and explained everything clearly. I spoke to at least two front desk staff during our visit as well and they were always kind and courteous. I am very grateful to Dr Compton and the staff at MedVet for their service. While I hope we do not have to visit the ER again it does give me piece of mind knowing they are there if needed.

No doctor on site for days?? Seriously? I had a pet emergency, and I had to drive hours away for another hospital. Not 24/7, don't advertise if it's not true.

The vet today 09/05/21 was absolutely amazing. My dog is a bit anxious and she was very nice and took good care of my baby. Making me feel comfortable know that he was taken care of.

They were great a few years ago when my dog ate a tray of brownies, very prompt and he was no worse off than before he ate them. More recently, I moved to Springfield and my dog had a non-emergency cut on his leg. I called every emergency/urgent vet in the fairfax/alexandria/arlington around around 6pm, and every single one was either at capacity or would require me to wait in the parking while also warning that they likely wouldn't get to me until 1am-3am since the wound wasn't severe. MedVet were much more accomodating, I only had to wait a much more reasonable hour or so for him to be seen, it only took them about 15 minutes to clean it up and give some antibiotics, they didn't empty my bank account, and the cut healed very well. Thank you!

We were waiting for 2 hours in the emergency room and they called us to say that we had to take our dog because the vet had left. 2h waiting without giving my dog anything for pain. We were coming from Culpeper. they gave us a budget of 2,500. as the vet left we went to GREENBRIER EMERGENCY ANIMAL HOSPITAL in Charlottesville, and thank God they gave pain medicine immediately and the care was incredible. they always called us as "Nina's family" and we paid 1,230.

I called them on a Sunday really disperate as my dog threw up blood and they told me to just come over, no scheduling is required. 30 min later I was calling from their parking lot to let them know that I arrived. The person who answered the phone said they are overbooked and no one can see us, so I'd better go to a different hospital.

They are understaffed, but they care and are great with pets. They aren't over priced for an ER vet either!
