Petco Chester, Virginia

Very impressed with the fish department. The guy working that section was very knowledgeable, helpful, and courteous. The tanks were well stocked and clean. The whole store was neat and clean and had a great selection of merchandise. I'd recommend this store for all fish type purposes!

I gave it two stars because the people were really nice. However. This store is SUPER EXPENSIVE. first time in my.life I've seen 4 dollars for a can of dog food. We bought my pup a harness. Paid 35 dollars for it. We then went to Ross and found the same harness for like 10 bucks. Unless you're rich and don't care about throwing mo ey away , don't shop here lol

I waited by the fish tanks for about 10 minutes before I ended up asking the cashier if someone could come help me. The person who came over to bag fish for me was friendly and helpful. I bought 6 fish for my established community tank, and one of them died the next day. I saved the dead fish to return it, and the cashier was able to look up my receipt. However, the cashier informed me that if I didn’t have a water sample along with the dead fish, he “wouldn’t be able to sell me anymore fish, that’s our policy.” He said he could give me a refund for the dead guy, but again refused to replace the one until I brought in a water sample… He said I could talk to the manager, and when I said I would like to, he pointed to the back of the store and said “he’s back that way somewhere.” I started to go find him until I thought, “You know what, it’s not worth it, I just won’t buy fish here anymore.” I just got my money back. The manager had to do an override anyway, so I mentioned that I really just wanted another fish. He too, mentioned the policy of bringing in a water sample. I understand that they are just doing their jobs, but that seems like a bad policy—if you want my business, anyway. The other 5 fish I bought that day are alive and well… I’m not a professional aquarist, but I’m experienced enough and have bought enough fish to know that sometimes new fish just die. I appreciate that the concept is to protect animals (except the feeder mice..??), but this experience really turned me off to Petco. I plan to get my fish elsewhere from now on.

The store is fine and the staff are friendly. The parking lot is a bit cramped for all the businesses in the shopping center.

What a joke my 1 year old Siberian Husky came out soaking wet (still dripping) smelling like the county pound with uneven hair on his legs where his paw pads were cut out and a chunk of hair missing from his back leg. I was told he didn't like the dryer so they let him air dry which is a joke I could have towel dried him better and paid $93 for this because they dont bring them to you until you pay. His nails were not even touched and I honestly regret ever taking him there to begin with.

I went in to the Petco in Chester, VA to purchase some glow tetras and a couple of catfish. The employee that was waiting on us asked me the size of my tank. I told him about my one tank and immediately he told me he would not sell me the fish. I do have other tanks, but he seemed to be so busy with telling me how wrong I was. I just left.

They are always helpful. I'm glad they have the Pals rewards and offer the free bag of food now. It helps us out a lot. My cats are picky eaters and they have a food that they like. We went through so many bags of food until we got to the wholehearted brand and they love it. They also are the only ones that sell the food my diabetic cat will eat.

Really nice pet store with friendly staff. I usually go for fish and their tanks are typically stocked pretty well. They guy that helped me was really nice and knowledgeable. The store is always very clean and stocked well. I know some people have complained about the grooming side, but I have no experience with that. Overall a great store for supplies and friendly staff.
