We are fairly new to Choptank vet hospital. We have had a few visits and every one I’ve left feeling like they really care. Yesterday our dog Beau was neutered. I was hesitant to say the least! We’ve unfortunately lost one dog this way. Sandy immediately noticed my anxiousness and assured me that they would take VERY good care of him. She also went on to explain how skillful Dr McConkey is. I felt SO much better walking out that door. I was told I could call and check in and I did just that. Twice I called and thought the staff might find it annoying. Instead I was kindly updated on his progress. Thank you so very much to all the staff at VCA Choptank! Beau is at home healing comfortably!

This is the most caring and compassionate veterinary hospital I've ever brought my pets to. They genuinely care about all of the animals they treat and their owners. They are compassionate and keep you completely informed. They thoroughly explain treatment and answer any and all questions you may have. They also give you a follow up call to see how your sick pet is doing. I absolutely love the vet and staff here. I highly recommend them.

My family's 20+ year history with this vet has come to an end. I needed a place to board my cat Casey while we were at our home in Church Creek for a family vacation. I was grateful initially for Choptank Vet's willingness to board Casey on such short notice. They asked me when I would pick him up, and I told them Monday, 6/21/21. Nothing further was said to me about picking him up. On Saturday 6/19, I learned that I needed to get back to Annapolis the next day. So I dropped by the vet's that evening, saw the sign on the door that 9 am and 6 pm were the hours for pickup for boarders. I then re-read the documents they had provided when I boarded Casey, and but there was no information about pickup hours, or a phone number to call for after-hours emergencies. The VCA website clearly stated that boarders could pick up their pets on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays at 9 am and 6 pm- consistent with the sign on the door. The next morning, I arrived at 8:50 AM to pick up Casey. I rang the bell, and there was no answer, so I waited. I thought perhaps that the staffer could be running late. I grew concerned that no one was coming and that my cat was not going to be fed that morning, so I called the local police. They contacted the owner of the VCA, and about 10 minutes later, a staffer arrived who chastised me that pickups are at 9 am, not 9:45 am!!! When I got Casey back to Annapolis, he was very thirsty and lethargic. Later that night, there was diarrhea in his litter box, and he was barely eating. The next day, the behavior and diarrhea continued. On Wednesday, I took him to his vet in Annapolis who ruled out stress due to boarding and put Casey on a two week antibiotic/anti-inflammatory/pro-biotic regimen. I sent an email on Thursday to Brandy, the manager at CVA to let them know that Casey was now on an antibiotic regimen. I did not ask for anything. I had already paid the boarding bill and was not disputing any of the charges. On Friday morning, Brandy called me and asked me to explain what had happened, which I did calmly and finished off with "it is what it is. It's over now." She then launched into an angry tirade about how I had been informed "ad nauseam" that boarded animals sometimes show stress, and that I was supposed to pick up the cat on Monday. When I disagreed with her that none of this had been told to me or provided in the documentation, or that I needed an appointment to get my cat back, and that the VCA's times for picking up boarders was clearly posted on their door and their website, she just raised her voice, talked over me and continued to bluster away about how she could not keep staff around waiting (even though it wasn't even 9 am yet!!) at which point I hung up. I will not conduct business with an establishment who's manager: 1) lied to cover up the fact that their staff was not available at the posted times; 2) made a decision about the health of my pet with no knowledge of his condition (an animal under stress does NOT get put onto an anti-biotic regimen), and 3) launched into a belligerent tirade to cover up her office's inconsistent posted times. Rather than address the issue of her staff not following the times posted on the door sign and website, she chose to bluster away at a customer and rewrite history to suit her weak position. She was not who I worked with over the phone when I first contacted them to board Casey, I never spoke with her once on the phone or in person, she was not there when I dropped him off, so she has no basis to make the statement that I was informed "ad nauseum" as she has NO IDEA what the staff told me. If there is an inconsistency in stated staffing times versus actual times, a well-run business would have addressed that by now! Treating customers angrily and abusively because their own policies are inconsistent and/or not clearly stated is inappropriate and unprofessional. Further, I wasn't even asking for anything, and she chose to launch into a tirade. My cats Annie, Ellie, Barney and Casey will be moving on.

My best friends dog was sick and she took him there to recieve medical care. Well he took a turn for the worst after the clinics hours. She had to have her dog euthanized and Dr. Maconki came and picked her up at her house so she could be with him at the end. The care and compassion that Dr. Maconki and staff had for the dog as well as his owner was beyond words.

I can't say enough positive things about VCA especially Dr.Maconki. She and her staff helped me through a very unusually traumatic fostering situation. She truly cares about animals and went out of her way to give above and beyond care for a nursing mom and her baby's. She taught me one on one skills with helping puppy's. If your looking for someone who's going to fight for your fur baby this is 1000% the place!

They were able to see my dog same day when he was having breathing problems. Took amazing care of him. Made sure I wasn’t charged an arm and a leg. And made sure my baby wasn’t misdiagnosed and given unnecessary meds like previous vets there. The office manager even came in to check on us and thank us for coming back after Bad experience with the previous doctors. Everyone was great and my dog was feeling better in no time. They definitely changed things around FOR THE BETTER. And will gave me and my pet as clients going forward. Thank you!!!

Choptank animal hospital has lost that small hometown feel and compassion that Dr Burgeon and Dr McCoy built then turned over to the Allen's to keep it going. It is obvious that VCA is typical corporate greed and only makes it appear to care about the customer.

Michelle Allen is the best veterinarian in this place. Very professional, kind and caring when it really counts from beginning to the very end of your pets life. Sometimes all you need is a hug to begin the healing process. Michelle is a gift to a tough job.

Like most of the doctors but didn't particularly care for the one we had this time, she was very rude and didn't explain anything she was doing to the dogs. Will be requesting a different doctor next time.

I used to be very, very happy with Choptank Animal Hospital during the 6 or 7 years I lived there, however the corporation that has taken over this office has an illegal policy and/or their staff is poorly trained. I moved away from Cambridge. My new vet called this morning about my dog and cat's upcoming annual appointment, but told me that Choptank Animal Hospital in Cambridge is refusing to release their vet records because apparently my ex-husband stopped paying the bill on his old account there and it is in collections. Called them and Jan at the front desk confirmed that information. Transferred to Beth, the office manager, who told me that it's their policy and also that by law they dont have to give them to me, but she would call her area manager and "see what she can do". That seemed unethical to me, so I googled to find some information about it, found a number and called the Maryland state board. I was informed that it's actually illegal. The woman there told me to call Choptank back and let them know I've been informed of the law. Beth immediately began to backpedal and denied that she ever told me that! She was all aflutter, prattling on nervously, making excuses. I had to talk over her, told her to just send the records thank you, and hung up. Several minutes later Beth called me back to let me know that she didnt appreciate how I talked to her, said ALL the vets in the area have that same policy, smarted off that she would let all of the vets around there know, and basically told me I'm being ungrateful because she's trying to help. I interupted her to remind her that she had actually lied to me, was acting unethically, and doesnt need to do me any favors as it is the law, so send the records and dont call me again. Then I called the board back and let them know about Choptank's policy and that Beth insists that all the vets in the area have the same policy. The board thought that was very interesting, called Choptank Animal, and then assured me the records would be there by end of day. Where I once would have refused to take my animals anywhere else, I would now never recommend this veterinary office to anyone.

Such a caring, kind and experienced group of professionals who work here. I can't say enough about them and how they've always taken care of our pets through the good times and the sad times of losing one.

Very detailed and helpful. I appreciated the individuality I was shown with my concerns about my dog. They shared with me a detailed and personal understanding of what to expect and ease the concerns I had about what my dog was going through. Thanks for taking the time to show you care about my dog as much as I do!
