All the staff were professional and doctors spending really much time for checking and explaining each pet’s to their owners. Everywhere was so clean and my dog was a little nervous at first but they treated her very well and made her relax. 100% recommend it. #animalhospital #pet

I’ve been taking both our cats and dogs to Shirlington for about five years. They’ve been absolutely wonderful with all of them. They've always taken the time to get to know the animals, to make them (and us) feel comfortable, and to answer questions and talk about the best options for us and our family. Last year, they diagnosed an aggressive cancer in our dog and helped us through the process of understanding our follow-up care options. When our dog passed several months later, they sent a lovely condolence card. The pandemic has been such a difficult time for the industry, but both before and since COVID, they’ve treated every one of our furry family members like their own. I can’t say enough good things about them.

I've been taking my dog Poppy to Shirlington Animal Hospital since 2017 and have had nothing but good experiences. The staff is responsive, kind, and clearly cares about their patients. Especially important to me, they have taken the pandemic very seriously and done everything they can to keep staff and clients safe while continuing to provide absolutely stellar care. I truly have nothing bad to say about Shirlington Animal Hospital and am eternally grateful for the care they've shown me and Poppy the last 5 years!!

This vet has been amazing to my two dogs since moving here 2 yrs ago. I have an older Boston who’s recently had some health issues and they have been so helpful and accommodating in trying to figure it out. When my French bulldog had a tumor they were able to remove it right away. They are always very communicative and great at explaining step by step what should be done in caring for my pets. They are a genuine caring team and for that I’m very appreciative.

We took our new puppy to Shirlington Animal Hospital for a new patient visit and could not be happier with the care we received! Dr. Handerhan and her assistant patiently answered all of our questions and were so caring with our puppy. We are happy and relieved that we found our vet!

I have been brining my cats here for three years now but I have never been compelled to write a review until we met Dr. Snelgrove. In one word, she is AMAZING. My little girl suffered a severe trauma to her side and she has now had hernia surgery twice. Dr. Snelgrove has been just amazing throughout this process. I can tell that she loves little Missy and that she genuinely cares about how she is doing. She doesn’t talk about her like she is just another patient she talks about her like she is one of her own. For us cat people this is such a breath of fresh air, in a community where dogs take up most of the space, it is just wonderful to have a vet that truly loves cats!

Dr. Snelgrove and her staff are terrific in every way. They helped my family so much through a very unpleasant experience with our newly adopted dog. Not only were they very professional, they openly expressed their human side of kindness, compassion and genuine concern and care. So very grateful for this practice.

I have never had anything but excellent service and communication from SAH. It is such a comfort to have them so close. Took care of my two kitties coming in lethargic and nauseous. One of my cats is quite difficult to handle and becomes almost feral at the vet's office. The staff was able to sedate him enough to get a blood sample and urine as well. Sticking with this vet as others are not so good at handling cats that aggressive. Thanks to all for making it possible to get an appointment with such short notice, I am so glad I did not have to take them elsewhere.

Great vet clinic! Dr. Snelgrove is awesome and is quick to respond to our email questions about our reactive dog. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that they're often closed on weekends due to short staffing. This can make it challenging to get an appointment.

I had been bringing my dogs here for two years, since I moved into the area. The staff is professional, the doctors seemed nice, but they’re not gonna be there for you when you need the most. I had taken my 10-year-old dog to the groomers next door when I picked him up the groomer inform me but my dog had been much more listless than normal and that she struggled to actually brush him down fully. I took him outside and he peed bright red. Terrified I rushed into the vet, my vet, next door for help. It was 5:34 pm on a Friday evening, their hours are listed til 6pm. When I walked in I was confronted by three young technicians I tried to explain what was happening. The first question was are you a patient here, it struck me as odd since I was coming in with an animal in need, but I responded yes and then I had just been in two weeks earlier for his annual check up. They told me they were closed and there was nothing they could do. They shoved a piece of paper with five or six emergency hospitals listed and told me to get out. No advice on what to do, no concern as to my animal and his general state, just get out. They even refused to try and contact a doctor, they didn’t touch my dog they just sat at their desks with a cold stare that let me know that all they wanted to do was go out for the night, I was bothering them and my dog could die for all they cared. Oh and they didn’t have any time free to see him the next morning, I was on my own to figure it out. I finally found an emergency clinic who could take us. My dear angel crossed the bridge that evening. I called the next day to leave a message to speak to his doctor, they informed me she wouldn’t be in until Wednesday and they’d pass the message along then but couldn’t guarantee she’d call. I was later contacted by an office manager to weakly apologize for what she heard happened Friday - i assume she was worried when she saw my message for the doctor and I told her that no amount of I’m sorry could change what happened, I wanted to speak to the doctor about my dogs last physical not waste time with her poor excuses. I informed her that we would be finding another vet after getting such careless and heartless and uncaring behavior from her team. I have already gotten an appt with another vet for my remaining dog. I would never trust these callous heartless quacks with an animal again. If you’re not going to be there on someone’s worst day then what is the point. I deeply regret trusting them with my beloved animals lives, I won’t make that mistake again. They’re awful. I can’t say that enough. Maybe they should consider hiring staff that actually like animals. Might be a great place to start. Monsters.

We are so grateful to be at Shirlington Animal Hospital and under the care of Dr. Snelgrove! She has taken care of our golden, Oskie, since he was a puppy and she has been phenomenal! She always takes her time to answer all of my questions, explains the rational behind her recommendations and is so warm and caring with our little boy! Even after we moved out of the area, we still travel back to see her and her amazing team!

Our cat has been a patient here for a few years now and they always make annual appointments as low stress and painless as possible for him, and the results as easy to understand as possible for us. The team at Shirlington Animal Hospital has been especially wonderful this week as our cat has had a surprise issue pop up. They’ve managed to squeeze him in without an appointment twice this week and been beyond patient and understanding when relaying diagnostic results or discussing treatment options over the phone every day, again even without a set appointment for our cat.

They are very thorough, professional & love to give my baby treats for behaving. Thank You!

These guys are great across the board. Super friendly staff and knowledgeable about the products they sell for flea/ticks. They are always happy to answer your questions and are very quick to respond via email about appointments and questions. I started taking my dog here when I lived in arlington and I recently moved out to McLean but still take her here because I know I can expect great service and the best treatment of my dog.

I’ve been coming here for about a year for my dog and cat, and the staff have always been super kind - from the front desk to techs to doctors. The techs and doctors both have always taken plenty of time to talk to me about any questions or concerns. I’ve never felt rushed or dismissed. I highly recommend bringing your fur babes here.

We love this veterinary practice and have been taking our fur baby there since we got him in November 2019. He’s had a fair amount of issues so we are a frequent visitor - at least once a month. The front office staff, the vet techs, and the vets are fantastic. They always take good care of our Bear and make sure we can get in to see them ASAP when needed. They also run “happy hour” vet tech service specials which is a great deal. I can’t imagine taking Bear anywhere else! Thank you!

Loves me some Shirlington Animal Hospital! Each and every staff member is friendly, professional, and caring. I'm confident in the counsel they provide; and whenever my dog has been sick and needed attention, we've always been able to get a quick appointment. I couldn't recommend them more highly and am so happy to have them taking such great care of my best buddy!

The vet was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. The exam didn't take much time at all, and the staff were very kind and tried to calm my anxious dog down as much as possible.

The worst place you can call to get an appointment if you have recently adopted an Animal. They aren’t willing to honor my voucher given for AWLA for my recently senior adopted cat. Kristen the manager was extremely rude and mentioned they can do an appointment if I pay for it. So basically everything comes down to money and if you need to reschedule your appointment for couple of weeks down the road because you work in a medical facility and things does happen, they are not willing to meet in between. However if you say credit card, they will honor your dollar bill ONLY. And please, avoid Kristen at all costs. Extremely rude person ever.

Amazing receptionists, vet techs, vets, everything. They treat our rescue puppies very well and they seem to take their time in knowing every pet’s name and history, which I think makes the treatment way better. Very clean place, they’re always so kind, and very helpful and responsive with every question I asked!! I am soooo happy to have found this place, and I’m grateful my dogs are being well taken care of here!
