This is such a well run dog rescue. IMO the best in Northern Virginia area. The staff are amazing and their work with dogs is excellent. They socialize dogs, work on training and truly care about the well-being of each dog. It's a great experience volunteering with LDCRF and highly recommended for adoption/foster and volunteering. 10/10

This is a great place to come and adopt a pet. The staff is Incredible, they are friendly and knowledgeable of the process. They have many animals to chose from, and they rescue animals all over. They have one of the most fair processes I have seen. Everyone gets a fair shot at the animal they wish to adopt through the interview process. The best part is you can Interview for multiple animals at once, so if you aren't chosen you don't have to spend a while looking for another pet to adopt. The adopt fees were higher than. State run animal shelters, but in my opinion it was worth it and alot quicker than the state. We got our forever per from here and it was worth it. Check them out and rescue a pet today.

Such kind staff of volunteers always helpful and communicative with any questions. Work so hard to help these precious little ones. We adopted our lovely sweet Stella and she has given us so much joy and companionship, so happy we found her.

Absolutely amazing dog rescue! We were able to go and volunteer for the day - helped with tasks in the shelter and played with the dogs there. We also were able to take some out on a hike! Would recommend for anyone looking to give back!

We adopted our first pup from LD&CR two years ago. We really appreciate the hard work put into getting all these loving animals a new home. Recently we moved out of the area and came across a pup for adoption from another non-profit rescue group. By far, LD&CR is handsdown the best at what they do and other non-profit rescues should really follow LD&CR example. Our experience with the other group truly makes us appreciate LD&CR even more than we already did <3! Thanks for what you do, all the foster Moms/Dads, and all the volunteers too :).

Lost dog is a wonderful organization which rescues primarily dogs and cats and finds them loving homes in the DMV region. The kennel parking is pretty terrible but that is to be expected in such a high traffic area.

Great place to volunteer to walk dogs or hang out with cats, or foster or adopt. Check out dog ventures too!

My family and I went to event this weekend and the way they are doing the adoption process is stressful and can be heartbreaking, me and my family wanted to adopt this dog but so did 8 other people so what they did was interviewed everyone who wanted the dog and then everyone who was approved from the interview got their name put in a bowl along with others and they pick one out and that determines who gets the dog, I understand that this is the fairest way but this can be traumatic for some people especially if they have already made a connection to the dog during the event, so if you are going to adopt through this foundation, be prepared to get your heart broken or if your lucky enough you won’t be, it’s really a 50/50 shot if you get the dog you want or not

Fantastic experience with Lost Dog & Cat Rescue. Very responsive and made the adoption process very easy. The staff seem to really care about the animals and really do look for a good fit. Very responsive to inquiries. We adopted our 5 year old cat, Youppi from LD&CR recently and couldn't be happier.

I'll start by saying I absolutely love my dog. He is the sweetest and I am so lucky to have him in our family. My second positive is in regards to the friendly, helpful volunteers that were at the Rockville Petco Adoption event. They were kind, caring and dedicated. My issue is that I spent $375 to adopt and upon taking my dog for his "routine" vet appointment 2 days later, I was faced with a $600 bill. He had severe kennel cough and diarrhea. After all the tests and IV treatment, I was worried that he wouldn't survive. Luckily things turned around. However, I contacted the rescue because I felt it appropriate to be partially reimbursed for the vet bill. The adoption fee was was supposed to entail meeting some basic needs and not handing me a severely ill dog. Upon contacting the rescue I was offered no reimbursement as an immediate response. Then offered to go all the way to Purceville VA for care from their vet. So, you want me to travel that far with my sick dog when you had your event in Rockville??? Then they offered to take him away and give him back when he was healthy. So you want to temporarily remove this poor dog while he's just started adjusting in our home?? Absolutely not. Both of these options were unacceptable. We adore him and wanted him to have the least amount of stress possible. In good faith they should reimburse me for at least a portion of the vet bill or return the adoption fee. It looks bad on their part that they accept no responsibility. Plus, I now have pre existing conditions through his pet insurance. No one should use this rescue unless you're ready to shell out at least 1K in the first week with no offer of reimbursement from the rescue. It's a reality. YOU WILL DISAGREE IF YOUR EXPERIENCE WAS DIFFERENT (ADOPTING A HEALTHY DOG), BUT PLEASE PUT YOURSELF IN MY POSITION BEFORE REACTING. I will reiterate that we adore our dog. Thank goodness he's ok now. This needed to be said and I wish someone warned me.

Lost Dog does great work rescuing pets and giving them homes, can't take anything away from that. However, they have a formalized process that makes you feel like you're getting 100% of the information about your new pet, only to find that they apparently don't perform the bare minimum vet testing to ensure full health before adoption. We took our cat to the Lost Dog-partnered Nova Cat Clinic and were informed of anemia and a pretty serious ear/upper respiratory infection. So far we're in more than $500 on vet visits and haven't even cleared up all the issues. Sure, adopt from Lost Dog. But make sure when you're going through the 15-stage application song and dance routine that you insist on seeing lab results for the animal you're adopting. Very disappointed in an organization I previously highly respected.

Went to event at a car dealership...they seemed more interested marketing the cars than helping the dogs. Waited there for 3 hours and never even got interview

In the midst of Covid, I was desperate to adopt a kitty because I always wanted cats and I was especially lonely. Lost Dogs and Cat Rescue was the only shelter that responded to me in a timely manner and let me adopt with proper precautions. I am now very happy and very much in love with my black kitty, Sierra.
