Sunshine Animal Hospital Annandale, Virginia

Recently moved to the area with a new puppy. Sunshine Animal Hospital was able to get us in within a week so Theo could get all of his vaccines. They are very accommodating, informative, and reasonably priced. We have seen Dr. Kastner. and Dr. Ward. They are both great as well as all the vet techs!

We recently took our American Bully Simba to Sunshine Animal Hospital for his wellness exam and vaccinations. I was very impressed with Dr. Kastner. He is thorough, personable, knowledgeable and honest. He took his time and answered every question I had. The reviews I read led me to Sunshine, and they were spot on. I look forward to working with them in the future for Simba's care. Thank you!

This review is for the office manager who did not handle my case professionally. Dr. Kastner and his wife are very pleasant people and have always been very helpful and kind. Took my dog in for his dental appointment. Having done this before I already had an idea of what the final bill would amount to (assuming no extractions and nothing crazy required). I was shocked to see the final number. Literally doubled the amount we paid previously. Via phone, I spoke with the office manager. I wanted help understanding why/how the charges jumped from $315.00 (Oct 20, 2020) to $634.04 (Dec 31, 2021). In short, her condescending explanation was "just like food prices due to covid prices have gone up", "we're under new management" and "you signed a pre estimate, didn't you?". The latter to which she kept circling back to. I'll admit, the pre estimate was concerning as it was upwards of $900.00. In good faith, I signed it which I shouldn't have. Lesson learned. I felt I was done dirty hence why I challenged the final invoice. On top, clearly she was not actively listening, or she was gas lighting me, as she was having difficulty understanding why I thought the bill would be in the $300 range. Lending further frustration. I explained to her it'd be really appreciative if existing patients received an email, any notification, about changes in the practice- new management and possible upcharges; if any questions arise to contact the office for further explanation. **Be transparent**. Based on my experience with her she does not operate in such manner, lacks patient care, compassion and empathy. She made the assumption I was fully aware of said changes. Had I been aware I would not be writing this. We were recommended to this practice per the rescue agency we went with and will no longer be moving forward due to the experience with their OM.

Sunshine has always provided top notch service to our dog. Everyone we deal with has been kind, professional, great listeners and affordable. The quality of care is first rate . I highly recommend Sunshine.

My dog was REFUSED service because the female doctor would not come out to see him. Have been here before with Dr Kastner before and he’s great has no problem coming out to see my dog because he cannot be at the vet without me. The new female doctor they have refused to come out even when it was clear he would not go in without me. Came in to check on a growth on my dog and she REFUSED to see him even with an appointment. Make sure you see Dr Kastner if you go because the female doctor (who isn’t even on their website) prioritizes her feelings over your pets welfare!

Dr. Kastner is good and very personable and calming.

Our Little Oliver got Neutered by Dr. Kastner two days ago. What a great experience!!! I was so nervous and probably called several time to get updates during the procedure, and get answer to my questions after. Each time they attended to my concerns and questions thoroughly. I am so grateful for the care my dog received. Thank you Dr. Kastner, and Sunshine Animal Hospital team. I highly recommend them.

We take all of our animals to Sunshine Animal Hospital. They are caring and understanding. The prices are reasonable and they are not judgmental, just very matter-of-fact, which I appreciate so much. I recommend them to everyone.

We have been going to Sunshine Animal Hospital for over 12 years and are always pleased with the service we receive there. Everyone is helpful and friendly. The vets really take time to discuss your pets needs and/or concerns. They also provide pet boarding services for when you go on vacation. I would not hesitate to recommend Sunshine Animal Hospital for all of your pets!

Sunshine Animal Hospital has been helping our dogs for years. They are great. Really glad to have a private office that's not connected to the huge (price-gouging, imo) VCA system. Doctors and staff are great. Highly recommend.

My family has been bringing our pets here for decades, starting when it was the Austin Veterinary Clinic. I have had appointments with Dr. Kastner before but this was my first time meeting a Dr. I was unfamiliar with. I just wish she had introduced herself and let me know that she had familiarized herself with my pet's file or something because I expected to see Dr. Kastner.

I have been with Sunshine for some time now since moving from Prince William County. Both of my dogs have received exceptional care at this facility and I don't plan on taking them anywhere else. They always find a way to fit us in, even on a short notice.

We've been taking our pets to Sunshine for over 15 years. They've always treated our family and pets with great respect, kindness, and empathy. All that while giving them excellent care.

When my vet wasn't available I was able to get my dog in to see a vet at Sunshine. She was very friendly and knowledgable. She answered all my questions in great detail. If I wasn't moving out of the area next week, I would be switching over to Sunshine!

I have been going to Sunshine Animal Hospital since 2008 with my cat. I have always received excellent care from both the veterinarians and the staff. They have always answered my questions, taken time to discuss any issues, and delays are minimum. The staff is extremely friendly and caring of all animals. I highly recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place for the care and well being of their animals.

I got a puppy from homeward trails rescue. They had a affiliation with Sunshine via the adoption for the first few appointments to be covered. They have been great and a good help with the care of our dog for this first 18 months and I look forward to keep coming there.

Dr. Habitzreuther was our vet this time, although I have dealt with others there. She seemed very capable, knowledgeable, and cared about our dog. He was a rescue and in bad shape, so his treatment plan was pretty complex. Dr. H was very thorough in covering all the bases with him, but at the same time, not over-loading his system with too many vaccines at once. I did not give 5 stars for two reasons: (1) i was asked to sign several forms/waivers that were of such poor copy quality that I could not read them. I’m being asked to sign something saying I have read & agree with the terms when I cannot even read them. I pointed this out to the assistant & she just dismissed it; and (2) this is not specific to just this vet, and due to covid, but i sat in the parking lot the whole time. Dr. H called me to discuss my dog’s situation & the treatment plan. Reception was not great, so it was hard to interrupt & ask for clarification. I was frantically scribbling notes on some scrap paper. This means of communication is far inferior to a face-to-face conversation with the vet. I had to later request a written summary of treatment given the complexities of the situation, which Dr. H did promptly provide. I’m hoping the vets will feel comfortable loosening the covid restrictions soon and allow for face-to-face conversations.

I couldn't have asked for better vet than doctor Kastner. My 8y cavachon who has now crossed over the rainbow bridge was treated with love, dignity and respect by doctor Kastner and staff. He guide us toward to the right direction even towards his last days. We ultimately made the most heartbreaking decisions and sunshine animal hospital was the place we choose.

This was our first visit and we were very pleased. The parking as well as the building are a good distance back from the road, there is a very nice grassy area for the for babies if needed. They were prompt, reasonably priced and friendly to both us and the babies. Even Dr. Kastner came out to speak with us. We are definitely switching everyone over to them.

BEWARE! Sunshine Vet is knowingly overcharging their customers blaming it on a "new computer system". The people who answer the phone are incredible unprofessional as well. I took my new dog to this vet twice for his vaccinations and have had nothing but bad experiences. My newly adopted dog had gone to a dog sitter and came back with a cough (kennel cough). He did not have the appropriate vaccines yet and the vet brushed it off and told me to give him zyrtec which did nothing. They also didn't do anything for the bite mark he has. Both the cough and bite mark have gotten worse. The second time I brought my dog in for the vaccine booster, they over charged me by $110. I called in to clarify my bill and the woman on the phone said "oh yeah, we have a new system thats overcharging people" and refunded the charges. No apology. Do yourself a favor and go to Caring Hands animal hospital for real vet care.

Dr Kastner is an amazing doctor and he has always done a superb job with care. Since they sold the vet to a new company I have only had problems. A different doctor did my dogs dental and did a poor job. I didnt notice it till another vet made note if it. I made another visit due to this and was charged for it and another vet at sunshine said she needed another dental. After knowing and admitting to the faulty job by the other doctor. Dr Kastner asked the company if he would be able to do the job for free and the new company would only give me 33% off. I paid $317 for another blood panel full price then given 33% off for the dental for $280. Im am very saddened. I always received wonderful and caring work from Dr Kastner when he owned the business and cared for his patients. Dr Kastner office used to have the best prices for people who could not afford the inflated prices with quality work. The new company he works under has now inflated their prices and only cares about their pockets. I used to recommend this place to many of my dog friends. No more.

I found Dr Kastner patient and thorough when discussing my puppy. I recommend Sunshine Animal Hospital without reservation.

My dog was sick - was able to obtain appointment on the morning that I called. Was seen by the vet and went home with medicine which solved my dog’s issue. I felt that my dog received quality care resulting in her getting well quickly.

Best kept secret in Annandale. Dr. Kastner (as well as the rest of the very nice and caring staff) knows his stuff and loves animals. He takes the time needed to make sure my dog is getting what she needs and to answer all of my questions. SAH does not attempt to nickel and dime me like a few other Vets I have tried in Annandale through the years. Excellent and thorough care.
