I've been with banfield for over a year now and this is the best one I've been too! I have two big dogs and usually I have to bring then in and out one at a time but they sent a very kind employee to help me walk them out!! Such a great experience!

On Friday November 26th 2021, my 8 month old shih tzu named Peach went in for a routine spay and a routine procedure on her cherry eye at the Banfield Pet Hospital located inside Petsmart on I-20 in Weatherford, TX. For those of you who do not know, a cherry eye is a common occurrence that results when a tear gland in a dog’s eye becomes inflamed. The vet we spoke to at Banfield assured us on multiple occasions that she would have no issue fixing it. Even after we asked if it would be better to take Peach to a specialist, she insisted that Banfield did these procedures all the time and that it would be no big deal. Following her surgery, the vet told my dad and I that it went well, and that she should not have any future complications. We were given a cone, pain medicine, sleep medicine, and steroid drops for her eye. In the few days she was home after her surgery, she seemed to be doing okay. After a few days with the drops, we were switched over to a steroid ointment to use on her eye instead, but as her eye seemed to start getting worse and worse, we decided to bring it to the attention of Banfield. At her 8 day check up, on December 4th 2021 at Banfield, my parents raised their concerns to the staff. They took her to the back, saying the vet would check her out, and soon brought her back out to my parents saying everything was perfectly fine. The following two days were where it became very apparent that something was seriously wrong. On Monday December 6th 2021, Peach’s eye was swollen shut with green ooze coming out. My mom called Banfield and after putting her off and having her send pictures, they finally agreed to see Peach if my mom brought her in. During my mom’s visit there, it came out that at her check up on December 4th, she was not seen by an actual veterinarian, but she was seen by a vet tech. I cannot speak for Banfield’s hiring or screening process, but it is my understanding that there is no formal training or education generally needed to be a vet tech. They expressed to my mom that she needed to take her to an animal ophthalmologist immediately. The ophthalmologist diagnosed her with keratomalacia, which is corneal melting, with extensive corneal loss, large perforation and a serious infection; in other words, he said that her eye was basically the consistency of snot. This put her in significant pain, and left her mostly blind in that eye. Our only option was to get the eye removed, as to relieve her pain and give her the best chance at a healthy life. This new doctor stated that she had developed an ulcer in her eye (which is a common thing to develop after a cherry eye surgery), and was given drops and cream that are notorious for irritating ulcers and are not used for the type of procedure she had. Also, there was likely a loose suture left in the back of her eye which caused irritation, which also could have caused the ulcer. She was also given a type of cone that is not used for eye injuries, giving her the ability to rub her eye on things, even after I called the day after her initial surgery questioning the effectiveness of that cone. It was clear that the loss of Peach’s eye was a result of Banfield’s negligent and malpractice actions. Not only did they make mistakes initially, but if they had taken the time to properly look inside her eye at our follow up appointment then that could have at least minimized the damage already done by them, probably saving her eye. To be clear, we would not be bringing this incident to the attention of the public, nor placing blame on Banfield if this had been a condition that she developed or truly an unavoidable accident. These were actions continuously done at the hands of Banfield, leaving my sweet puppy permanently disabled with no remorse by them shown. If they did this to my innocent puppy, imagine how many other animals have been victims of their malpractice.

I am actually shocked that their are so many amazing reviews about this place.... I called @ 12:24 today 4/14 to schedule all of my pets appointments because I have a lot of things to discuss with them. They answered the first time ( very polite) and then put me on hold for 20 mins. I finally just hung up at the 20 minute mark because lets be honest that is a little absurd that anyone would have to be on hold for that long. So, then I called back and what do you know NO ONE ANSWERED. Who honestly is watching your phones? and you mean to tell out of all of the staff members who are working that not one could answer the phone? Or at least answer and be honest with your customer and tell them that you are a little busy. First time dealing with this Banfield Pet Hospital and so far I am not impressed. Hopefully my next experience is better

The staff are always pleasant and welcoming to our 4-legged kids. Each time we go there, treats are available for our kids to enjoy. The facility has even squeezed us in between appointments in times of urgent care.

When my dog was old & very sick.. This hospital had me pull up to the back & a team of 4 people gently carried her from my car to a inside room.. They had so much compassion & helped me put her down so as to end her suffering..I was given a beautiful wood box, her paw print, some of her hair & a beautiful card when they returned her ashes to me.. They are the Best.. Thank you Weatherford TX Banfield Hospital

These people killed my English bulldog. They convinced me to get him neutered despite all my concerns they reassured me it was routine he would be fine....they did not even call me to tell me he had died due to their staffs negligence intubating him in time. He was dead within seconds of them administering Anastasia and two hours later when I called them they said he passed away...NO ...they killed him. They called the police on my children who were upset crying and yelling because they are UNPROFESSIONAL and took NO ACCOUNTABILITY.
