This pet hospital was great. The staff was cheerful and caring. They directed me take my puppy to a vet, as my puppy did not require the expensive services of a hospital. I will recommend them to anyone who may need their services.

TL; DR: This office is acceptable for annual checkups, but as soon as your dog is diagnosed with any non-routine treatments, seek care elsewhere. Banfield skipped standard assessment practices before assigning my dog a dangerous treatment plan. Bottom line: I DO NOT TRUST THIS OFFICE WITH MY DOG'S HEALTH AND SAFETY. My review in full: My rescue dog went in for a heartworm test. Later that day, someone from this office called me to tell me my dog's test was negative and his health was excellent. Two hours after that, we received a call from another associate saying the test was actually positive and my dog needed immediate, expensive, and painful treatment to treat the parasite he contracted prior to his adoption. This quick about-face was a nasty shock, one that points to a fundamental lack of communication and training on part of the staff at the Sugar Land Banfield location. Every time I have ever requested an email from this office, I am forced to call back to request it a second time. I have never received a requested email in a timely fashion (or, in some cases, *at all*) from this office. My spam inbox is empty and Banfield's second email never has trouble getting through, so this isn't the fault of my spam filters. Multiple times, staff have communicated something to me on the phone in clear terms, only to communicate contradictory information at a later date. When questioned about these contradictions, they claim, "Well, whatever YOU THOUGHT we said on the phone" (this statement is, of course, a tacit refusal to take responsibility) "the correct information should've been in the email we sent..." Please see the previous paragraph for why I meet this claim with skepticism. The only emails I have received from Banfield are automated messages from the online web portal. Today while pursuing heartworm treatment for my dog, I was yet again given information that contradicted the earlier information communicated to me on part of this office. I was told to reference an email that does not exist in my inbox. When I brought up these repeated instances of communication breakdown, citing that I was concerned they might make errors in my dog's treatment given their apparent lack of organization, I was told I should "probably find a different vet for the sake of [my] mental health." But when you have a time-sensitive treatment plan in place, that is far easier said than done. And yet, because it was clear that the man on the phone (who claimed he's worked there for 8 years with zero mistakes) had no regard for communicating with me, I found another vet as quickly as I could after we ended the call. Speaking to this new vet revealed that Banfield did not perform certain basic assessments on my dog before assigning them a heartworm treatment plan, an egregious oversight I am now shocked to learn took place. Apparently these assessments are standard practice, but they are ones Banfield did not perform. I will not be going back to Banfield at any location. I would have likely stayed had any effort whatsoever been made to reassure me about this team's competency, but no such efforts were made. Instead I was personally blamed for "mishearing" what they'd told me, told to reference emails I was never sent, given non-answers about their repeated communication issues, and treated with a fundamental lack of empathy. The man I spoke to on the phone said, "I don't know anything about your past poor experiences, so I can't and won't give you any reassurances about our communication practices," and that is NOT a valid response to someone questioning your team's communication. It illustrates that you do not care about the actions of your team, which is how communication breakdowns in team settings happen in the first place. That lack of concern and inability to take responsibility speaks volumes. (Another note: A friend of mine's dog passed away last week due to Banfield misdiagnosing cancer as benign, so take that further anecdote as a reason why you should not patronize this chain of vet clinics.)

Don’t even know where to begin, a few months back went in to get a shot for my dog so he could stay at the doggie day care. I called and made the appointment and because of Covid I had to wait in the parking lot. Then you call them they told me he was due for another shot which I checked my records I had on me and it wasn’t time by 5 months but I did it anyways. I was quoted 120. When I picked him up the bill was 250 and they said he was due for another shot and did it without permission! When I went to speak to the vet he refused to see me and despite talking to the manager and following up for MONTHS with corporate nothing happened. They are a bunch of liars that care nothing for your pet and just upsell you at every turn. If you love your pet DO NOT GO THERE OR TRUST THESE LIARS!!!!!

Amazing veterinarians and vet technicians. They helped us through every step of making sure our puppies were well taken care of. One of our pups had to have dental surgery, and we were extremely scared about him going under anesthesia with …

The vet I saw was wonderful and sweet but the unprofessional, rude, and incompetent receptionist completely ruined our experience. I was supposed to drop my pet off for a follow up appointment and called for the curbside as usual, but after holding for several minutes I was asked if we could wait until after another pet was seen, I informed them that my car AC is not working and that I was worried about my pet overheating. She seemingly had no issue leaving my pet in the 95+ degree heat and didn't even know what the appointment was for. After figuring out he needed an ear swab she said the charge would be $45. I knew I hadn't paid for it last time with the wellness plan so I didn't understand the charge and the tech communicated the test as being just because I was already there. I went home and looked at the plan and saw it only covers the first ear swab test. If this had been communicated better instead of just "it's not covered" and had we not been in the heat for over 25 minutes at that point I would have been willing to do the test. I also inquired about the heart worm test that was sent to an outside lab two weeks ago and she claimed that the vet had called and left a voicemail, but I never got one. When we called back later I was informed that they never received the results from the lab meaning that the receptionist was lying about it. It's okay that the lab is running behind, but lying to make it seem as if not having the results is my fault is absolutely not okay. If it weren't for being stuck with the wellness plan I would be looking for another vet despite having a good experience with the vet and all other employees.

This vet clinic denied a lifetime prescription to a medicated dog food that my black lab has been on for 5 yrs. They stated that because the vet had not seen him they would not reproduce his prescription that had been reproduced by other Banfield sites for 5 yrs. However, the veterinarian name on the most recent prescription from the previous 6 months was their doctor. They completely ignored the fact that his prescription was a lifetime prescription provided by his actual vet, and instead attempted to strong arm is into bringing our dog to them just to get his dog food. Absolute disgrace.

I have taken pets to Banfield for years. I like that I can drop off my pets (7AM this time) and get on with my day. I received a call at 1PM when they were ready for pick-up. I took them for comprehensive exams and I received a detailed report from the veterinarian who personally called me. I also received ba written report when I picked up my pets. The price is competitive with other vet offices and the staff is very courteous. Five stars.

Dr Farnsworth A++++ This veterinarian is thee best. The quality of the staff at this Banfield amazes us. Our dog, Billie Bob T, was looked at, prescribed food, given vitamins for joints, he is 12+ years. He is running like a 5 yr old rat terrier again. Luke the asst was great with our baby, Cynthia at the desk is super congenial. Thank you so much.

I am currently apart of Banfield's puppy early care program. I take my 4 month old dachshund mix to location (16758 Southwest Fwy Sugar Land, TX 77479 United States) inside of pet smart. Good- Dr.Aurora Marie Walker is an amazing veterinarian highly educated and great bedside manner. Dr. Walker is Luna's usual vet she's always happy to see Luna and always answers my questions/concerns about Luna with educated suggestions/answers. Also since Luna is not done with her vaccines she has also been getting her nails clipped here even though it is a little bit more price I did not mind because Dr.Walker always treats Luna with care and patients when clipping them and always clips here nails in the room in front of me. And at any point in the visit if Luna becomes too distracted or fidgety she will offer Luna a little squirt of Kong treat. Bad- Dr.Amanda Vasicek was VERY rude from the moment she walked in the door. Luna had peed a little right before Dr.Vasicek entered the room. I had already had napkins and was cleaning Lunas accident up. Dr.Vasicek says is a very aggressive/annoyed tone "I got it" I reply " are you sure I'm almost done" she says annoyed like I'm a child "yeah and you need to wash your hands". This incident all happens upon her just walking in the room. I had expressed some concerns about Luna having difficulty using the potty outside and her puppy breath. When discussing my concerns with her she was very one-sided and very annoyed when I asked further questions. She starts verbally attacking my Methods of training instead of suggesting a better method. Then when discussing dental she immediately starts judging me and my methods once again. I asked very politely if using greenies was a proper method to dental if so how many times a day or week is appropriate. She literally rolled her eyes and goes on a whole rant how greenies are not fully effective and why wouldn't I brush her teeth she proceeds to say you brush your teeth don't you. She then suggest after that that I was not providing Luna with the proper nutrition/food she needed for a healthy development due to her concerns of her not being at 10 pounds. She has zero bedside manner and is very one sided. This appointment was also Luna's last puppy vaccination as it should've been an exciting appointment it was very disappointing and scary. Upon Dr.Vasicek Providing Luna her vaccination she hold her down very aggressively making Luna very nervous and Luna was squirming trying to get away and instead of calming her down or asking me to hold her she tightens her grip and still tries to provide the vaccination upon doing so she stabs Luna with the needle two times causing her to bleed. And instead of seeming remorseful she says " oh it looks like since you were moving I poked you again". The vet assistant In the room looks with concern for after she stabbed Luna with the needle for a second time Lunas right leg gave out and Luna pooped on the table and left a smear of blood. At this point Dr.Vasicek still showed no concern as the vet assistant picks up Luna and take her to the back to clean the blood off and clip her nails. I've never had them take Luna to the back to clip her nails and when she came back her nails were butchered. Upon leaving this appointment Luna was truly traumatized. This is unacceptable and very disappointing. Not to also mention we also had been waiting for 40 minutes after Luna's initial appointment time to be seen.

I scheduled this appointment a month ago online. When I scheduled the appointment I expressly wrote in the notes that this would be a yearly dental cleaning that would encompass all of Slate's shots and comprehensive exam. We have to do it this way in order to lower his stress, and allow the technicians the ability to administer his meds. I was not notified until the day before the appointment that he would not be taken in for his dental cleaning/ sedated for his inoculations. I was very upset and asked to speak to a manager. I was then told that the manager would call me back; which they never did. I had taken Slate across the city the day before to have him there for the appointment. I did not have a chance to talk to the person that was taking Slate about the situation. He was dropped off as planned, and of course we had issues. Not only did they not even attempt his dental cleaning, but they also attempted to administer the comprehensive exam and inoculations that give him extreme anxiety. He's a 100 lb mastiff and special consideration/ techniques need to be given to ensure a safe environment for everyone including the dog. I have used several Banfield hospitals, but for years I have had issues with this particular hospital. I do intend to file a formal complaint. The animals care and safety does not seem to be a priority to this hospital.

I have no personally been to banfield but today I had to help schedule my sister's dog to be euthanized as his health suddenly rapidly declined. It is not their standard policy to do this for peers who are not previous patients but thanks to their incredible employee, Miles, going out of his way to speak with the Dr about our situation and make multiple calls back and forth until we sorted it out, we were able to get an appointment scheduled for today, a Saturday, at a very reasonable rate compared to the emergency vet clinic. Saying goodbye to a beloved pet is hard enough, but thanks to Miles and the Dr who agreed to help, some of that weight has been lifted and she can say goodbye peacefully.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BANFIELD! THE SERVICE IS GREAT AND THE HEALTH PLANS ARE A LIFESAVER! HAVING PETS FOR SO LONG I KNOW HOW MUCH THEY CAN COST; BUT WITH THEIR DIFFERENT WELLNESS PLANS - NOT ONLY DO I SAVE MONEY, BUT I ONLY HAVE TO PAY IN BROKEN DOWN IN EASY INSTALLATION AMOUNTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR!!! WHICH MEANS SO MUCH TO ME TO CONSIDERING THAT I AM TOO BROKE TO PAY GROSS FEES AND TAXES, ETC JUS TO EMBETTER THE LIFE OF MY PRECIOUS LITTLE PETS ???? ????!! PLUS THEIR SCHEDULING AVAILABILITY, COURTEOUS AND PATIENT FRONT DESK AND NURSING STAFF, AND QUALITY SKILLED VETERINARIANS CANNOT BE BEAT. (I HAVE HAD NO QUALMS/PROBLEMS WITH ANY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL AT ANY BANFIELD I'VE EVER BEEN TOO; AND THAT IS MANY) PLUS I LOVE THAT THEY'RE EVERYWHERE SO IF I MOVE, OR AM ON VACATION, ETC, THEY'RE STILL THERE AVAILABLE TO ME AS USUAL ????????????????!!!

I have been with Banfield quite a few years now, starting in NYC. First time on this location, the front desk people were extremely horrible, my pet presented pyometra (which was informed over the phone before coming) and was bleeding profusely, the front desk let me waiting even after my appointment time...then she proceeded to tell me to weight my own pet (which is the tech’s duty), after going into the check up room, the vet sent the tech back and forward with information in regards to my pet instead of checking her, herself, and only came in after me asking for the vet, only to be told they don’t perform this type of surgery. I will be cancelling my subscription to banfield.
