Rick has been such a blessing! He helped us better understand how our young GSD learns and really taught us how to narrow in on how to make her succeed in different situations. Even after the first session she was a different dog. Rick is a great trainer and we will be going back to him for extended training on our pup to help fulfill her potential. Overall, not one bad thing to say about Rick, he is consistent and always willing to teach when you have a question or concern. We even recommended to our family members whom are truly learning and enjoying all that Ricks' training program.

After adopting a wonderful rescue pup, we realized that we needed some help in transitioning her into our home and socializing with our older girl. I researched many of the trainers in the area and interviewed Rick as well as several other trainers. Rick is highly experienced and has a solid education and background in training. He gives you the tools to work with your pet and the results are obvious. We are amazed at our pup's progress and look forward to continued improvement as we work with her in the up coming months. We highly recommend Focus Dog Training to help you enjoy your pet!

Rick at Focus Dog Training was my second attempt at finding a dog training/obedience trainer for my rescued (unknown background) 1.2 year old German Shepherd – he SHOULD have been my first call. I highly recommend Focus Dog Training and the expertise, patience and personal/focused approach Rick has with teaching you how to train/handle your Canine Companion. Here’s what I know when comparing Focus Dog Training to the other guys – you will receive more value for your spend, you will receive 1:1 training (no group classes), you will have a program that is customized/personalized for both you and your canine companion. Rick teaches you how to train your companion. Through his guidance, patience and instruction I have made huge strides in being able to both handle and train my GSD. I understand how my GSD learns. I understand how to teach her to connect a behavior to a command. I understand how to use the tools available to me to manage a highly motivated GSD. We’ve had set backs along the way and when those occurred I found Rick to be available for a pep-talk, a consult, a reminder but more importantly understanding when we needed to take a few steps back to make those strides forward in accomplishing a new command or connection with a technique. Rick/Focus Dog Training is NOT 6 classes and done, it is NOT rushed, it is not cookie-cutter Sit, Stay, Down. It is focused, hands-on education from an extremely professional and knowledgeable trainer. Our sessions range from 30 minutes to an hour depending on how well my GSD and me for that matter are engaged during a session. There have been times where either one or the other were having an off day – in other programs that may have counted “against” your assigned number of classes – with Focus Dog Training that’s just a session day and we pick up where we left off or got stuck at the next one. What I like most about that is we’re not just frying the GSD out – pushing her limits or mine – in order to check a box. Through this program we’ve tackled behavioral issues (aggression) and discovered a joy for both learning and teaching – You may spot us out in public – she’ll be the well behaved, neutral to her surroundings, possibly off-leash but focused on her handler GSD. I’ll be the grateful GSD owner!

We reached out to Rick for help with one of our dogs who began displaying aggressive behavior toward our other dog. Rick came out to meet with us and was very interested in learning our concerns as well as explaining how his program worked. We decided to move forward with him and have been more than pleased with the results to this point. We are currently still working with Rick and have seen marked improvement, and clearly see a difference in our dog. Rick is very methodical and patient explaining all of the techniques and the “why”. He will show us how to perform a drill/technique and go over as many times as necessary until we are comfortable and get it right. He is unrushed and works to ensure that we are correctly executing each technique he teaches us, as well as our dog is consistently responding successfully before moving to the next level. He is very knowledgeable and conscientious. I would highly recommend Rick and Focus Dog Training!

I rescued two, large-breed dogs - both with special needs. Living in a forested region without a fence, it became quickly apparent that we (the dogs and myself) needed some professional help managing behavioral issues. I had become so frustrated at one point that I was seriously considering rehoming one or both. Rick to the rescue! I can now walk the two together and enjoy it. Indoor manners have improved greatly.

Excellent dog trainer, we have been in the program for a year. During our initial contact, he explained the entire process over the phone. He then scheduled an initial appointment for our dog. He made the initial observation and followed through for the next year coaching us and the dog. She is now well trained, can walk without a leash, obeys commands, and can be walked only using verbal commands. She has just completed the training. He not only followed through with a year but has also offered any follow up training as need for our dog. Very professional and thorough

I have loved working with Rick/Focus Dog Training (Montgomery, Tx). He is very professional. Rick is at appointments early so when you arrive rest assured he will be there (or your home)! I had taken Lulu to another training place and I was very disappointed so I hired Rick and am so blessed to have found him. I would and will recommend Rick to anyone who wants their dog professionally trained. He train’s us as well as our fur babies and thats a must!

My wife and I thought we did our due diligence before we even called Rick Walkley of Focus Dog Training. He would not talk much about his program over the phone with my wife and said he had to come to our house to explain how it works. …

Rick's knowledge of dog behavior and how best to train them is remarkable. He recognized our Bella's strong food drive and has been using it to get the behavior we want from her.

At first I was skeptical of dog training due to the fact that my dogs do not listen AT ALL. However, with just 3 sessions I have already seen them start to get better. I really enjoy this program and am looking forward to future sessions! My dogs Bailey and Jaxson seem to love it too.

Can’t say enough about Rick. He worked with our entire family and our Aussie Doodle to create great habits for all of us. He is beyond knowledgeable and patient to a fault. We will recommend him to all our friends who need help with their dogs in the future!

I came to Rick at Focus Dog Training for help in training my puppy that had slowly become more and more aggressive. I am only a couple months in to training and I am amazed at how quickly my dog has progressed. My dog used to bark aggressively at almost everyone she saw, and this is no longer the case. I am convinced that this is because of Rick's techniques. He is not a "one size fits all" trainer. Over the phone and then at my first appointment, Rick got to know my dog in order to suggest the route we go for training. I am also very fond of Rick's method of payment. I like how he has you pay a one time fee for an unlimited number of training visits.

We adopted Caroline as a rescue with unknown background. She was shy, skittish, fearful and withdrawn. Rick met with us and explained how he could work with us to give her confidence and bring out her buried personality. In just a few short months, she has become playful, is leash trained and loves to go for rides in the truck! She has already learned to not run and try to hide at every noise or new experience. She shows affection to visitors in our home but is also displaying very good "Dog Manners". I am extremely pleased with the progress so far. Rick is very easy to work with-he explains everything thoroughly and is quick to answer my questions even between training sessions. Caroline is better trained after only a few months of working with Rick than other dogs I have encountered after as long as a year of training.

When looking for a dog trainer it was difficult to find a reputable Certified trainer. There are many so-called dog trainers but few that have the qualifications of Rick Walkley. Rick was exactly what I was looking for in a trainer and has met and exceeded my expectations in his training methods. He’s not just helping me in training Jango but teaching me valuable information in the art and science of dog psychology. Rick has been extremely patient with Jango and always knows exactly what to do in every behavioral issue and training situation I have experienced. Rick really takes his time to explain things thoroughly and always follows up to make sure we are on track with our training lessons. It has been a joy working with Rick, his talent in dog skills are Immeasurable and notable beyond words. With that being said I highly recommend Rick as your professional dog trainer. Personally it’s been a great experience, and one that I’m excited about, especially in what the future holds in our journey of dog training.

Rick with Focus Dog Training is a great dog trainer. With our first dog we used a big franchise to try to train our dog. That was a total waste of time and money. The dog training was a one size fits all. When we got our second dog we called Rick. It was apparent right away that not only does he know what he is doing but is very nice and makes you feel comfortable. Rick doesn’t use one way of training, he understands your dog and uses tools and techniques that will be successful for YOUR dog. His training works and it’s worth every penny. Just before we started training my puppy lab ate all the wires off my generator right before Hurricane Harvey. If our puppy was trained as she is now she wouldn’t have eaten and destroyed my generator and saved me a couple thousand dollars in surgery expenses to remove the wires. Rick with Focus Dog Training is the only dog training I would recommend.

I have had the pleasure of working with Rick and his family for years. When my family and I acquired a 6th month abused rescue pup Rick was able to guide us as the humans to properly gain the trust of the pup. Using his knowledgeable advice we now have a very well mannered, trusting dog.

Rick Walkley is hands down the best dog trainer I have ever had the privilege of watching work a dog or train a dog owner. As his son, I grew up in this family business observing, training, and helping. I have seen many people over the course of my life get frustrated with their dog, yell, hit, and be on the verge of giving up only to call my father for help. He stepped in, trained the owner (where most of the training usually happens), and was able to make a positive out of many bad situations. He is gifted teacher, a generous helper, and one of the most warm-hearted and kind businessmen I know (to a fault). Montgomery/Conroe, Texas has gained a great man and unbelievable dog trainer. I promise you that you are making a mistake if you take your business anywhere else.

Rick with Focus training method gave me immediate results with my dual purpose service canine. His knowledge and years of experience make every training session valuable. Rick possesses a level of patience with both the canine and the handler that is a rare quality with this level of training.
