Worst place to take your pet. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Absolutely worst care ever!! $2300 stay at the hospital for some IV Fluid, For severe lethargy and nausea. After some lab work the vets came in and saw me for the only time during our stay there... Said Shadow has 3 to 6 months to live..... At discharge they sent her home On a week of antibiotic with no indication what it's for, with no corresponding anti-nausea medicine. I had to beg for anti nausea medicine. Discharge instructions were pretty much zero other than my saying 'should she be on a special kidney food?' And they write down on discharge, 'Royal canin KD' which is a food that does not exist. Despite my requesting numerous times that they send all records to her regular vet....Nine days later they still failed to fax her discharge records to her regular vet. Zero follow-up call to me to check on her condition after discharge---nothing nada. One week after discharge I called the office manager requesting a call back which she never did. This emergency hospital is a total disorganized chaotic joke! I would never return there.

I'm so grateful to you guys for taking such good care of Figaro. We had a crate mishap on the way in and he ran off. Staff member Leah came to the rescue and managed to nab him from some thick hedges. Thank you, Jerry, as well for helping us out on the 2nd visit. Dr. Baer and the rest of the staff, the front desk--all y'all are wonderful, professional and kind.

Hands down the best vet experience I've had. They're willing to answer questions without being vague or avoiding, and I was treated with respect. My cat had surgery on his hip successfully and I felt supported by their staff. I trust them completely.

We took our puppy in as an emergency. We kind of figured she had parvo based on her symptoms and the test came back positive. We received a quote between $5300-8000 for treatment which is outrageous. They gave her a shot and some recommended treatment plans which included surrendering our puppy. We took her to our normal vet and they treated her for $199 and gave us instructions for at home treatment. Our puppy survived and is now back to her normal self. I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. The price is outrageous and they play on our emotions as pet owners. It’s disgusting and shows what type of human beings they are. How in the hell was her treatment that high but our regular vet treated her for $199 and our baby survived. Horrible establishment. Would not recommend.

Dr. James was very good and knowledgeable about what was going on with our pup. James and his staff were able to get him back in stable condition. Thank you

Docs, techs, and front staff were all very informative and helpful in getting my dog back to her healthy self. I’m truly grateful my dog’s surgery and recovery went well. Thank you Dr Cochran and Dr Hall! Emergency care will always have unpredictable wait times and costs. But my only advice for better service would be to provide an itemized treatment plan for the services provided. There was a lot of uncertainty with costs of treatment and my final payment receipt didn’t list the costs of the services provided. I ended up paying more than the estimated costs, which was refunded to me. I trust that they run an honest business but being more transparent with costs would be helpful.

They saved Freyia's life, period. My dog presented a life threatening anaphylactic reaction and they triaged her immediately, no questions. She was under treatment in no time and diagnosed very fast. She spent the night under their care and she was fine the next morning. Can't thank you enough. The diagnosis was on point. I know this is what you do everyday but thanks to you, my pup is enjoying her life back normally.

No pet owner wants to make a trip to the emergency vet, but my experience with Pet Specialists of Austin was much better than I thought possible. Everyone there from the receptionist to the techs to the doctors was so invested in my pet's wellbeing. The doctor explained all of my options clearly and acknowledged the costs involved with those options upfront, gave me a timeline of what to watch out for when I took my pet home for monitoring, and was realistic about the overwhelming demand all the pet hospitals in town are currently experiencing. In the end, my cat's problem is resolved and I'm extremely grateful to the staff at Pet Specialists for all their support.

We have been here a few times—all emergency situations. Each time was better than the last in terms of care given and attentiveness by the staff. I would absolutely recommend them! For anyone concerned about bad reviews because of long wait time, I’ll just remind you that it’s an emergency room. Even us humans have to wait long periods of time if our emergency is less pressing than someone else’s.

Be careful. They try to take advantage of you in a extremely stressful environment and charge very high prices for things. Money is their priority, not your pet. Very sad. Understand there are limited options in the emergency vet field, hopefully one person reads this and goes somewhere else.

While I was out of town, my Great Dane Rorschach ran into something (more than likely a tree branch) which left a quarter sized and rather deep wound on his side. My husband (who was still home) despite the 3 hour estimated wait, brought …

I admitted my dog clean and with some.pain and a limp. I got him back with inconclusive results, having not eaten in 4 days, filthy, gunky and smelling like urine. Not sure what their definition of pet CARE is.

Claimed to be at max capacity once I arrived with my sick animal. We called ahead 15 minutes earlier and they told us they could take him in. By the time we got to the next vet we had missed our window for treatment. The lack of organization and professionalism in this situation is sickening.

New critical care doctor creating a ICU unit. Why am I telling you this? I had been tracking reviews for this clinic since it opened in our neighborhood. When my 17+ year old cat was given three-six months to live, I identified the emergency room I trusted as being in North Austin. The emergency time came. Our trusted vet clinic for our Tux recommended Pet Specialists of Austin as several of their clients had good experiences there. I quickly drove the few blocks and immediately was in their good hands. From the quick in-take, the on-staff vet, the hand-off to the ICU critical care doctor when it was clear that a critical care doctor was needed... each person treated our Tux as gently and competently as could be done. I was on the phone with Tux's vet in-between their reports back to me to guide me in ensuring we did what was best for Tux. I was allowed to be with Tux in ICU for his last breaths before he departed from this world and he was wrapped gently in the blanket on which he had rested so that I could hold him in my arms as we drove home with him. (They had offered a coffin and we declined.) The critical care doctor came with me to the car with Tux. While this was a horrible moment that we knew would come, this clinic did what we needed in a competent compassionate way. I am grateful to have Pet Specialists of Austin in our neighborhood.

Pet Specialists of Austin helped my cat after she her front right leg was broken following a dog attack. Dr. Jha was able to put a couple of plates in there, and she is recovering well as she is figuring out that she can put weight on her leg again. Additionally, Dr. Jha and the entire staff were very extremely professional, caring, and did phenomenal work; I could not be more grateful.

My dog was referred to Dr. Elizabeth Passmore, DVM, Neurology and Neurosurgery. The office staff was very helpful, the lobby was big so dogs have their space, clinic was clean, etc. The nurse was also very helpful. Dr. Passmore spent a lot of time reviewing my dog's medical records and performing a thorough exam. She was very caring with my sick patient. She spent time explaining her findings with me and giving me options. I was very impressed by the thorough information given. My dog has serious issues and I appreciate the honesty and competence from Dr. Passmore. I would trust her completely to do a surgery on my dog!

We’ve been here twice for our pup. One time his symptoms were lethargy and he just wasn’t himself. The wait was very long because my assumption is that he was lower in priority in triage. The second time our pup was having seizures and vocalizing and he was taken care of right away, so he was probably a high priority patient. We also had to say goodbye to him here and the two doctors we saw and staff were amazing. We never felt rushed and the doctors took time to answer questions and make suggestions. Thank you for making our last time with him smooth and as pleasant as can be. For such a sad time you guys were great.

I've had a great experience working with Dr. Sheppard-Olivares & this clinic in general for my dog's cancer care. I have been able to schedule his appointments in a reasonable amount of time, and all the staff are very kind and accommodating. The staff have been patient and understanding, and open to whatever treatment route we chose is best for our little guy.

Don’t take you animals here if you ever want to say goodbye to them before or after they pass. We were unable to go in and see our cat after he tragically passed. It’s completely unacceptable, we weren’t able to say goodbye. It’s hurtful and cruel.

Definitely have some mixed feelings about this hospital. It was the closet one to me, and after my dog was viscously attacked by another dog I rushed to the nearest place. I was obviously quite distressed so perhaps that skews my feelings. …

I really appreciated the team (including Dr. Vandiver, Megan, and Susan) being able to get me and my cat in for an emergency visit on a Sunday. They took great care of my cat and got me out of there with an x-ray, diagnosis, and medication within 5 hrs (with no appointment scheduled). Thank you so much for the great care you provided!

I brought my puppy in to Pet Specialists of Austin tonight because she had thrown up a few times. There was no sign on the front door to stay in your car, so I walked inside. The front desk staff was immediately rude and told me I needed to wait in my car until they called me. As a first time dog owner on my first emergency vet trip, I was obviously worried, and they could not have acted like they cared less about my puppy. I took my dog outside on the concrete to walk around, and the front door automatically opened - the front desk lady again lectured me saying “she cannot come in here.” I was fully aware and was not trying to enter. They never called me and I waited in the car for about 30 minutes. After waiting, I called and asked if they could please at least tell me how long it would be until they could see her. They said “you have to check in with us first” as if it was obvious. No one had told me I needed to check in. I would suggest they put a sign up on the door explaining what to do. I immediately left and will not return.

I want to tell you that I received amazing care from this facility. My personal thanks for the expertise and caring of my Morkie Darcy to Dr. Shanti Jha without which my little guy would no longer be walking and running like he is today. If you need expert care and a Vet with an amazing heart, you must reach out to Dr. Jha at Pet Specialists of Austin. thanks so much

We had a very good experience on a Friday evening with the team at Pet Specialists. We saw several different techs and a vet over our elderly dog’s emergency. They were informed and patient, explaining options to us and respecting our choices. It’s a nice facility and would not hesitate to go back.

I brought my dog, Stevie Ray, late at night for nonstop diarrhea and vomiting (it was hell). They treated him and we went home, but we were back the next night since he was not improving. Both nights they quoted us long wait times (4+ hours), but they got us in much faster than that (within 1 - 2 hours both nights). On the second night, he needed to be hospitalized since his condition was so bad (he needed an IV and other medicine). Over the course of the four days that we were there, the staff were incredibly helpful and accommodating; always quick to answer the phone and my every question. Even though we spoke with a new staff member every new shift, they did a nice job of tracking his progress and updating his notes so there were no gaps in understanding. I was also really impressed with all of the vet techs and doctors; they explained everything really well, and showed a lot of compassion for what we were going through. THANK YOU!
