I can't say enough positive things about the entire staff at VRRH. Dr. Newman did a left TPLO on our Retriever mix last year and the whole process was seamless. His staff is so kind and love on our Bear like he is theirs. Bear took to Dr. Newman immediately as well. I always trust our babies judgement because I believe they sense people's kind spirits. I actually just dropped Bear off for a TPLO on his OTHER knee this morning. I was worried he may not want to go back there because of associating the place with pain, but he jumped out of the car and RAN to the door. He is a Hu Mommas boy but never even checked up when they took him back. He was too busy getting love from all the staff. This is the only place we will use for these type things in the future. Would recommend them 100x over! ????

We have taken our dogs to Dr. Newman for several years now. The love and care our dogs receive from the doctors and the staff is wonderful. Doc and his staff are professional, kind and provide top notch follow up after care. Thank you, Dr. Newman for the care you provide our fur family.

Can not thank everyone that was involved in saving my dogs life. Everyone was courteous and prompt when I brought in my four year old German Shepard mix. He ate mushrooms outside that were poisonous in the middle of the night when I let him outside our fenced front yard. Luckily I noticed them after I let out my other two on a leash as they can squeeze through the fence. Anyways, he started twitching, then it went to slow breathing and he did not want to get up at all. All of this was during a tornado watch. When we got to the animal hospital everyone could not have been more comforting to me let alone Rusty who is leery of strangers. They induced vomiting, gave him activated charcoal and then administered intervals of something to help with kidney and liver toxicity. I got him back about 12 hours later and he was bouncing around like nothing had happened. Can not express my gratitude to the Doctor and staff! The photos are of the mushrooms so you can be aware to look out for them if you’re in North Alabama. The second photo is how happy he is now. ❤️ FYI that is his brothers bed but he is content with whatever bedding he finds. Lol

This place I recommend highly, the staff was friendly, compassionate, and and I felt comfortable they seemed very concerned and very understanding....they tried with all they had to save my pups, even though I lost one, , they did the best they could but one was already to far gone, but they didnt give up on my baby...and with her passing when I went to pick her up, they had her already for me, in her own little burial box. And gave me a card with my baby girls paw print, which meant everything to me...and they all signed it, even though that was my first time there, I felt like I had been going there for years, the way I was welcomed in. I will always be grateful to the staff, for their time and dedication they gave to my babies...Ariel, and Rex Denney. Sincerely B.Denney

Dr. Newman is an outstanding Surgeon and Veterinarian. My cat Bella had Fibrosarcoma located on her upper right leg. It aggressively came back a few months after her first surgical procedure to remove it with her vet. Dr. Newman wasted no time evaluating and performing a limb amputation to remove the appropriate margins in order to limit the return of Bellas cancer. Today Bella is thriving on 3 paws and we are forever thankful for Dr. Newman’s knowledge of Veterinarian Medicine. I want to praise his staff for keeping me informed and comforted during the entire process. They were professional, knowledgeable and showed loads of empathy towards our situation. Thank you all again.

My dog was in dire need a huge tumor removal. Dr. Newman took 1 look at him and did it that night. Very good communication back and forth. My dog stayed with the overnight nurses and they took great care of him. I highly recommend This hospital when being referred out to a surgeon!!!! Very down home friendly staff that loves animals like they are their own.

Came this morning to their ER have a laceration on my Doberman’s foot evaluated and/or stitched. Was informed upon arrival that they would be sedating my dog before a veterinarian had even examined him. I am a rheumatologist and my wife is an ex-vet tech - this is NOT standard practice and exposes an animal to unnecessary risks for unneeded anesthesia. (My dog is not aggressive or dangerous, but if they had a concern about it, muzzling the dog would have been a safer option. It’s also cheaper.) There seemed to be a big focus on $$$ - a $115 fee is charged before they will even see your animal. We left immediately, and headed to seek care in Huntsville. As we did, the vet tech rudely told my wife “Huntsville’s gonna tell you the same, baby”. As a matter of fact, Huntsville Veterinary Specialists did *not* tell us the same - they examined my dog immediately without sedation and did not collect fees until after the visit was over. I wholeheartedly recommend you drive to Huntsville if you need emergency vet care over these folks. The level of arrogance here was fairly shocking. We will be telling our regular veterinarian (who referred us to them) not to refer to this practice any longer.

I am so grateful to have found this resource for emergency situations here in Decatur and am surprised I’d not heard of them sooner. I found a great vet here after moving back to my hometown last year but had not needed after-hours weekend emergency until tonight when I found this team. The staff was friendly and helpful from my initial call through the visit and care provided by Dr. Burkhart and the techs, and my dog seemed to feel comfortable with everyone as well, despite the circumstances. It truly puts my mind at ease knowing they’re here, and I’m happy to see so many other positive reviews.

My Service Dog tore his ACL, and they did a phenomenal job with his surgery. The whole staff truly cares about your fur babies and they do their best to help where they can when money is tight to help you find solutions.

This place seems very uncaring unless you have tons of money. I took my dog in last night only because he is the only vet open late hours. The vet and staff seemed very uncaring and cost is very expensive and trust me if you don't have money they will let you walk out the door without helping a very sick dog. I overdrafted my bank just to pay a very high bill without much service. I thought vets should be more loving and hpful I could never send away a hurting animal. I guess some people have no hearts

Took in my 3 year old Ferrell cat. Unfortunately, the cost to treat him would have been more than my husband and I could possibly do. We had to make the tough call to have him euthanized. During our very difficult time, the entire staff @ the Veterinary Hospital were absolutely wonderful & supportive. Thank each & every one of you!

We were on a long drive home and one of my sweet dogs had a heart attack. This was the only place we could find open on a Sunday afternoon. The staff was wonderful!! They were knowledgeable, thorough, kind and did everything they could to help my sweet Molly. We all held her as the angels came to take her. For such a tragic event, we could not have been in a better place. Great staff.

Wonderful staff and an amazing doctor!! So far have absolutely loved my experience with Dr. Newman and his team. My dog Josie had to have a patella luxating surgery (not entirely sure I worded that correctly) and she is almost a month out and is doing amazing!!

We took a dog that had been shot near Smith Lake in Arley to this establishment on Saturday and we were so impressed. This dog is apparently a stray but very sweet. He wandered in the wrong yard and was shot. After searching for him for about 30 minutes, we finally located and since our local vet was not available due to it being the weekend, we brought this sweet pup to this establishment in Decatur. They were very responsive and professional and very friendly. I called back to check on the dog today and he is in stable condition and hoping a sweet family will adopt him. I would highly recommend Veterinary Regional for any pet emergency.

My goldendoodle dislocated her hip and they were able to get her in right away. You could tell everyone here has compassion for animals. I knew she would get taken care of when I left her overnight. They fixed her right up and is recovering at home. This was my first experience with them, and I wouldn’t hesitate to be back. The super sweet lady upfront explained what the potential cost would be, and they even give military/veteran discounts. Amazing. These people really do care.

They are some of the nicest people. They are very compassionate and understanding. We had a very hard decision to make about our sweet Heidi. I would recommend going here for your pet. I appreciate everything they did.
