Honestly I wish I could give this place a zero. I’m not usually one to rate and leave a review but this place deserves it. We went in trying to adopt and see certain dogs that we saw on their website and we saw two of the dogs we wanted to see but every time we said something positive they would tell us why the dog wouldn’t work (too aggressive and other things) then they kept pushing their puppies on us even though we had originally said no puppies and they were mixed with pit which I had mentioned that I’m allergic to pit mixes and welt up all over if I interact with them sadly. We tried to see Klover but the front lady said no and wouldn’t let us see her and I walked into pets mart today and saw her at the pet adoption in the back of petsmart! After she said no to us she put us in a room with a puppy and I welted up all over and had an allergic reaction! Any other dogs we asked to see from this book they had they gave us reasons why they wouldn’t work for us. All in all it was a weird and bad experience.

The Dawson County Humane Society is staffed by some of the most hard working people that I have ever met. They go far above and beyond when it comes to caring for animals in need. They deserve all of the support, and their animals deserve loving homes so if you are thinking of getting a new pet- please don't shop, adopt from DCHS!

I took several bags of towels and washcloths to donate. I never received one thank you for the multiple bags I took in. The next several bags I took to another humane society and they were very grateful and full of thank you's. It doesn't take much, but thank you goes a long way in good manners and the desire to return to a facility.

I read the bad reviews and I guess I had the right dog and the right staff member on the right day I suppose. I adopted a pointer and he was healthy and happy and perfect for our family. I went with my gut and with what dog I wanted and not with what was suggested to me but the woman at the front was super friendly and informative! I could tell she really loved all of the animals but her hands were definitely full! I can understand how hard it must be to be understaffed, under paid, and over worked at times. She was super friendly and patient with us even in the midst of people returning dogs that had already been adopted. There were 2 dogs being received by the shelter while I was in the process of adopting! That must be hard. I do recommend coming here and having an open mind and heart, realize what these people are doing. They are doing their best I feel and are allowing these animals to have a second chance. This is a no kill shelter! Give these guys a little support ❤️

Caring folks doing great work at this no-kill shelter. Donations ALWAYS needed & greatly appreciated. Old towels/blankets, pet stuff or plain old cash. Give the gift of life this year for Christmas & donate! Remember, adopt, don't shop!

Brought home a beautiful black kitty named Adonis, had multiple people come to check on him and say bye before he left (it was super sweet). Everyone was very helpful and nice.

Saw a cute cat at petsmart. The representative wasn't too familiar with cats but did mention that she was at the shelter. Went to see her Sunday. They closed Monday. Spent about an hour with her on Tuesday and by Wednesday tequila rose came home with me. Never came across some of the bad reviews posted. Sammie was wonderful on each of my visits. Now my furbabie is adjusting to her furever home. Highly recommend adopting from here. Btw the papers do indicate that they are not responsible if the animal has any hidden issues. Would you send a baby back if he/she needed glasses as a toddler.

Very aggressive staff member threatened a female customer in the lobby during my visit. Very unprofessional. I recommend going somewhere else.

Very rude, girl that came to the front didn’t know what she was doing and there was no one there to do the adoptions.

I wish I could give zero starts. I adopted a dog from them on 7/29. On Wednesday (8/8), I found out my dog has a severe and life threatening infection that they failed to mention to me. I’ve spent almost $1000 on blood work, vet exams, …

I hate to give a bad review but, to me, humane societies are supposed to prepare their animals for a forever home. This place is not clean, the animals need more care and more training.

My family and I tried to adopt a puppy from the shelter. We were supposed to be placed on a list and to return this weekend to see them after their trip to the vet. We showed up at 12pm Saturday and were told 2 people in front of us had 1st pick and if they didn't show up by 5 Saturday they lost their spot and the woman said she would call and let us know. I called back sat at nearly 5. She told me that she did not say they had til the end of sat. She said they had til the end of Sunday. I had 3 adults with me who heard the same thing. There seems to me like there is something wrong with this situation. It's an animal shelter and I just thought they would adopt the pets out when people came and wanted them. It's the end of Sunday. They are closed and the woman did not return my phone call..

The staff is friendly, I just wish that you could look at the puppies without them having to be brought to the front.
