I can tell the team here are well equipped and knowledgeable. My German Shepard had been sick and the doctors here have went over and beyond to make him better. Dr. Bertelli and Dr. Komanski take the time to answer all of my questions and …

My dogs have been going to Redwood for the past 2.5 years and we've had excellent experiences at all our visits. They make a great effort to get your pet seen as soon as possible when something urgent comes up. All the vets and techs are kind, compassionate and easy to talk to.

These people went above and beyond, making the painful process of saying goodbye to our little dog Shiva, as good as it could've been. They were very considerate and really helped my wife and daughter while they were grieving. I can not say enough about the staff

I have been bring my fur babies to Redwood for over 20 years and they have always been so very good to them. I am still just as satisfied with their service and commitment now as I was the very first time I went to them. I highly recommend them!!

I have two white kittens that both were experiencing diarrhea. They were able to give fit me in with an appointment later that same day! They were also able to take both kittens in at once. Kelli was very thorough with our intake and was so sweet, considerate and very excited to take care of my little kittens. Doctor Bertelli wrote up a full personalized review after the appointment for me to take home with me. She took the time to talk with me about finding out both kittens were deaf. I was pleasantly surprised by the price of the visit for both kittens and dewormer and flea medication to give in the future. I had shopped around at Pet vet on Patton and they had told me it would $165 per kitten just for an inttitial check up. It was less than that for both kittens here at RedWood Family vet. The whole staff has been very nice and professional. After living in Asheville with pets for 15 years, I would highly recommend this little hidden gem in the sky for their price, professionalism, connivence and overall friendliness. I will be coming here for all future pet visits. UPDATE: I went to RedWood for one of my other cats today, even though I am still paying for her monthly membership to Banfeild. It’s worth it for me to go here instead. Chastity and Maddy took care of my Link with absolute charm and grace. Nicely done. Thanks again ladies!!! (I just found out they also have an all female staff)

August 10th, I took Zac to Redwood Family Vet to have him checked out. He was a 13 year old Newfoundland dog, and seeing the telltale signs of old age and distress, I went there to explore the possibility of having him put down. I was told "He is not a candidate for euthanasia” and sent home with an over expensive bag of dog food, some vitamin D supplements, and a saline injection. This was the second time I let this vet coerce me into prolonging his suffering, and I feel this decision led to the worst day of his mostly comfortable and happy life. During this visit, in his distress, Zac snapped at one of the vet tech's who reached into my car to grab his collar, trying to assist in getting him out. He broke skin, and she left to get it treated at a clinic. I was then informed that because he wasn't vaccinated for rabies, he would be treated as a potential carrier, I wouldn't be able to euthanize him, and he had to be quarantined for 10 days. Animal services was called, and all of this explained. I told them that I didn't think he could last 10 days, as he was already dying, but was told "It would be less expensive if you try to keep him alive." No thought was given Zac's best interest. Barely eating, barely walking, and barely drinking, Zac continued to languish for 20 hours before he was literally unable to lift his head. I had to borrow a muzzle, which Redwood let me graciously borrow after pre-paying for the now $600 euthanasia that was about to happen. I was told it would be a communal cremation, never explained to me that this meant no ashes would be returned for him. I have had 4 dogs be put down in the past 4 years. Diesel, Jasmine, Molly, and now Zac. I sat with them, held them, every time as they passed on in that very vet. This was the only instance where I was not even offered the chance to be with my dog to the very end. I was not offered a private cremation. I feel a deep sadness knowing I couldn't be there for him. I can never get that closure I needed. While nothing in my experience would be considered illegal, I do feel my visits to Redwood Family Vet are heartless, incompetent, and truly the worst experience I've had with a vet in 20+ years of owning animals. I know they had procedure to follow. I know whatever soulless corporation purchased Redwood Animal Hospital, and turned it into Redwood Family Vet, would think that nothing at all went wrong here. I don't want a vet to treat me like just another dog owner. Like Zac was just another number. He was my family. And they were careless. Heartless. And I will never be back to this vet again. My current and future dogs deserve better. I think all of Asheville deserves better. Zac deserved better.

I was fortunate enough to work with Dr. Bertelli during her Theriogenlogy internship. She's kind, compassionate, and brilliant. She has great bedside manner and truly advocates the best for her patients by including clients in the care and treatment of their pets. Anyone would do very well by taking their pets to see her.

The transition to new doctors and staff was difficult, but I can tell that they want my dog to stay healthy. I appreciate their responsiveness and professionalism.

Redwood took care of two of our animals and are consistently professional, reasonable, and pet-centered. We moved our vet care to Redwood after working with a vet who was both expensive and not very impressive in handling animals. Redwoods staff were always responsive, sensitive and pragmatic. I highly recommend them!

Dr. Bertelli is an excellent vet. She is a strong advocate for her patients. She has the heart of a teacher, explains her findings, Cares about her patients and their owners. Willing to answer questions and goes over the treatment plan with you for your pet. Over the years I have taken Lottie my Rat Terrier to Redwood Family Vet and have always received excellent care. I highly recommend them.

I am a student at UNCA here in town, and my girlfriend and I have two cats who we love more than anything in the world (except each other!). We have tried several different vet offices over the past few years, but each time we have sought another vet because we felt as though no one actually knew our cats. The care we received was impersonal and it never quite addressed the root issue. Then, we were told about Redwood, and we brought our cats there for a checkup. You know how when you see a good place you just get a good vibe? It is an intangible quality, but as soon as we drove up to Redwood I knew we had found our vet. Maddy, one of the techs, came right out, ON TIME, to get our cats. She was so sweet, and you could tell she loved her job and loved animals. How could I not feel good about this place after having that as my first impression? Our cats were examined, and Dr. Bertelli spoke with us on the phone and gave us a full status report. We had questions, we had clarifications, and Dr. Bertelli never was impatient, she knew what she was talking about, she actually took the damn time to understand what it was we were asking, and she actually answered our questions! Redwood is 5 stars, and I wouldn’t take the time to write a review if I wasn’t really impressed with the entire operation.

After many years of professional, compassionate care at Redwood, we decided we could no longer take our pets there. It was a hard decision to make, as the staff at Redwood were--and remain--marvelous. The leadership at a formerly fantastic, "small-town" veterinary clinic took a sudden turn for the worse with an apparent change in ownership. Do not invest your time, money or your pets' care there.

After the previous doctor sold the practice, in July, 2020 my dog was sick. I took her to Redwood and was advised to put her down, that she was very sick. The tech was ready to take her back in and euthanize her right then and there. I was shocked and said I needed time. We made the appointment for the next day. The next morning, she looked a lot better so we cancelled the appointment. We went to Haw Creek Animal Hospital for a second opinion, they put her on a supplement. It is more than a year later and my dog is still going strong. Needless to say, I am very disappointed with the new regime at Redwood.

Had to put our very sick family dog of 11 years down. Is there anything more miserable? Despite my very heavy heart, they helped me through the process. Caring, professional and very tender with our dog, (and me) the staff could not have been better. Thank you. Redwood.

My experience has been mixed. One big problem was that I wasn't informed that my communication with Redwood would be through Vitusvet. I regarded emails from Vitusvet as advertising come-ons to be avoided. Redwood Family Vet was a recent acquisition of a local vet (Redwood) by a national chain. So my old reliable vet was gone and a new system installed. So far I've found the new team to be pretty inflexible. I called in knowing my pet's symptoms and asking for the appropriate medication and it took a couple of weeks to get what I'd initially asked for. The condition got worse in the interim and they eventually told me I had been correct. (50 years of cat ownership kind of informs my diagnosis.).

My experiences with Redwood Family Vet are not positive. Before this practice was sold, this office was the most caring, pet friendly vet office in all of Asheville. When taking my dog for her first check up after the office had been sold to some huge vet firm, I found out that it is just a money making racket. It was during the height of the pandemic and no one was allowed in the office. Someone came and picked up my dog and took her inside for her yearly exam. When they brought her back to me, my bill was close to $300. When I questioned different charges, she explained the vet before was not current on some vet issues. First, that was quite inappropriate for an employee to slam the previous owner to justify additional charges. In addition, I never spoke with the doctor about anything that had transpired during my dog’s checkup. I decided to give it another try, hoping things had smoothed out. This time the vet called me from inside and answered.my questions. When my dog was brought out, along with the bill was a list of services my dog needed to be done. Again, let’s generate more income. On my last and final visit, I went to pick up just meds and asked the girl a few questions. She wasn’t able to answer them but said for $40 I could speak with a vet. Well, there were three red flags and I quickly starting checking around for other vet offices. This had been the only vet I had used in more than 30 years. I asked for recommendations for other vet offices. . It was amazing that numerous other people had had very similar experiences at this new office. My dog’s records were forwarded elsewhere. Many of them had sought out new places for their pets as well. So, no I would never recommend this office to anyone because the care of a pet is like picking the best pediatrician for your child.

I could not depend on their communication. I am aware they were being Covid responsive but not communicating at all is unacceptable. I would show up for an appointment and they had no clue as to why I was there . I was told their doctors didn't do documentation. They sold me dog food that was so old that when i opened the can the food had dried up. The food was three years out of date. The one thing that did that was great was get my dog into Up State Vet Clinic. I finally knew that my dog was being treated properly.

Do not take your pet here. Since getting new owners, this establishment has no sense of professionalism or human decency when it comes to humans or animals. Not only are they rude, but ableist as well making the assumption that just because you may have a disability means that you are incapable of taking care of an animal. They also did not even look at the animal that was brought to them, just decided to make a decision without even doing an exam that could have ended up making my animal get a surgery that was not needed and could have hurt them severely. For the sake of your animals AND yourself, especially if disabled, find another establishment that will treat you AND your animal with respect.

I am blessed to be able to take both of my pets to Redwood Family Vet! From kitty teeth cleaning to puppy nail trims and everything in between, I know my furry friends are being taken care of. Social distancing makes it hard to be there for the pets but the wonderful staff help so much! Thanks Redwood Family Vet!!????????????
