I've been taking my cats to Animal Hospital East for 12 years and have experienced nothing but compassionate and professional attention from staff and doctors. They helped two of my cats live healthfully to age 21 and 24 and are now doing the same for my 12 year old. Dr. Kuhn takes all the time needed to explain every procedure and offer options. Yes, they are not inexpensive, but I feel they provide the best care anywhere.

I would give Dr. Kahn negative stars if I could. We took our 13 year old chihuahua 2 days ago because his eye was oozing green liquid, extremely swollen, and causing him tremendous pain. Needless to say our instincts were telling us this was his primary issue and a concern that needed immediate attention. Our baby has other issues due to his age and pre-existing conditions prior to us adopting him a little over 2 years ago, one of which is a collapsing trachea that causes him to "honk" when anxious or excited. It was very obvious to us that his breathing and coughing were due to the pain he was in and being stressed out from the vet visit (like nearly every dog) and the cold weather (he is about 7 lbs). However, Dr. Kahn insisted he needed a $500 x-ray and refused to look at his eye without putting him under anesthesia. We didn't feel the x-ray was necessary since EVERY other vet he has been to has said what great shape his heart is in (ruling out potential fluid in his lungs) and that the noise heard with the stethoscope is from his active stomach and not his lungs. He prioritized an issue we as his owners, who are with and observe him every day, felt confident was not an issue, while completely neglecting such a severe problem that anyone with sense could see. He even told us to not worry about his eye yet because it wouldn't kill him... I am sick just writing this because as it turns out, our poor, sweet boy's eye had ruptured and was literally leaking out of the socket (hence the discharge we were seeing when we brought him to Animal Hospital East). He didn't offer any solutions for his eye or the pain it was causing, and didn't refer us to a specialist or urge us to take him to an emergency vet. He addressed another issue that he was with his back, which is appreciated, but totally failed us and our dog when it came to a very major trauma. Petey had to get his eye removed last night, and thankfully, at a vet's office (Haw Creek Animal Hospital) that took the time to listen to us, examine him thoroughly (without anesthesia) and provide him with pain relief, comfort, and an emergency surgery within the course of 5 hours. Shout out to Dr. Melissa Nelson at Haw Creek Animal Hospital who didn't even hesitate to look at his eye and expressed how it needed to be taken care of immediately. DO NOT take your beloved pets to Animal Hospital East if it's an emergency. They will not be the compassionate, effective care your animals need. I am appalled that a vet with over 40 years of experience wouldn't even look at his eye, and offered zero solutions for a very serious situation. He wasn't warm or reassuring, and seemed to care more about doing an unnecessary $500 x-ray than examining a very obviously damaged eye. And money wasn't the concern, because we spent over $700 dollars the very next day on an urgent vet visit and a surgery that actually improved his well-being and alleviated his pain. And that was after spending $90 dollars at Animal Hospital East for an impersonal and negligent visit. Luckily we aren't idiots and trusted our gut, not the vet - who is supposed to be the voice of reason for pet owners- and took him to the emergency vet as soon as we could.

I took my cat who apparently had sustained a severe head trauma and they gave him a test for feline leukemia and no pain meds. They absolutely did nothing to treat him . I had to take him to another vet before I found out how bad his injuries were and the had to put him down. They are the kind of vets that work more for the money, then the care of animals. Total negligence on their part!!!!!

Out of town and in an emergency situation and this wonderful veterinary practice was incredibly accommodating. They treated my 12 year old lab as if they had been caring for her all along. Thank you!!

I cannot recommend Dr. Kuhn and the staff at Animal Hospital East enough. My dog actually gets excited when we drive to the vet! From the moment he walks in the staff gives him treats and star treatment- he loves the attention and over the years has established a great relationship with the staff at AHE. Dr. Kuhn has an obvious compassionate connection with the animals he works with. My dog has had several different health problems in the past, and Dr. Kuhn has always recommended options for treatment with his health and comfort as the top priority. He always explains the issue in terms I can easily understand and never seems like he's in a rush to get to the next appointment. My dog has had surgery at AHE and Dr. Kuhn personally checked in on him after hours, calling me to keep me updated every step of the way. I've recommended this clinic to several friends and they have all been blown away by the compassion and competence of this hospital. If you want your vet to care about your pet as much as you do, take them here.

What a wonderful and communicative staff! I love Dr. Kuhn. He always takes good care of my sweet pup. There is no one I would trust more. He always takes the time to tell me what my dog needs and how to treat any issues, large and small. Simply the best!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE. Today we brought our cat in for a routine check up. Dr. Kuhns said she had a yeast infection in her ear and needed medication. It turns out that it is a medication for dogs and she has neurological damage from the medication- her pupils are different sizes, she has a tic, and her balance is off. We brought her back and he sedated her to clean out the medication from her ear. He did not seem to care about our cat or to have any solid information to share with us. It seemed like he gave her an experimental medication and it even felt like he was blaming us for agreeing to give it to her. When we eventually left with her, we asked for a refund and he seemed annoyed but agreed. It was a horrible experience and we will never trust them with out animals again.

I received a same day appt for my sick little fur baby as a new patient. The staff were professional and kind and the bill was reasonable. This will be our Veterinarian Office from here on out.
