I’ve been to several vets before a friend recommended me to this gem. I have never fully been satisfied with a veterinarian until my first experience with Birchwood. From the moment I called and made an appointment till walking my fur babies back to the car was a very pleasing experience. They are so unbelievably loving and very thorough at this place and I would recommend them to my family and friends.

We have been coming to Dr.Murphy for a number of years and have always felt that the staff cared for our dog as much as we do. We recently scheduled a visit which would have most likely ended in our family member being put down. After we arrived, the instructions were to call the number listed on the door to gain entry. We did and then proceeded to be put on hold for the next several minutes while myself, my child, and our dog stood outside in 30 degree weather. While on hold, we did manage to get someone's attention inside which lead to them finally acknowledging our appointment time and check in. Another staff member came outside a few minutes later and asked us where our masks where, to which I responded that I was medically exempt and could not wear on because of medical related issues. Very much realizing that this visit would end our family members life, I felt that it only be appropriate that we were with him before he left us. I refuse to show such carelessness to simply send him inside with strangers during his last moments. The staff member understood and went back inside to notify Dr.Murphy about the medical related issue to gain entry. I understand full well and also was willing to use a different entry or waiting room to accommodate others because of the mask issue. That however was not going to happen according to Dr.Murphy as he came outside with several masks. I restated again my medical related issues, to which he cared less. If it was any other type of appointment, I would have gladly stayed in the vehicle, but that would certainly not have been appropriate as this would be our pets last visit. I understand this pandemic has people worried, but we cannot forget that there are those among us that cannot comply and are exempt. Dr.Murphy was unwilling to accommodate and offered no other solutions. I found his demeanor cold and thoughtless, as if putting a pet down isn't hard enough. I am very disappointed in him. UPDATED RESPONSE FROM OWNER - I felt it necessary to update my review after reading a response from the owner. I typically would leave it be, however the untruthfulness in some of the statements went beyond facts. Below you will find portions of the owners response and my responses to them IN CAPS 1.Our receptionist told you on the phone that you would be allowed to be present with your pet in the building for the euthanasia as long as everyone was wearing a mask. THIS IS NOT TRUE. YOUR RECEPTIONIST DID NOT SAY THIS. 2.When you came to the building for your appointment today you and your daughter were maskless and stated that you would not be able to wear a mask for "medical reasons". Yes, I did have masks in my hand for you to wear. You chose instead to leave with your pet and not come inside. THIS IS PARTLEY TRUE, HOWEVER LACKS ACCURACY. WE DID MENTION THAT TO YOUR STAFF MEMBER. SHE INFORMED US THAT EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FINE AND WE WILL WORK IT OUT, THEN PROCEEDED TO LET YOU KNOW THIS. YOU THEN CAME OUT SEVERAL MINUTES LATER WITH MASKS. YOUR NEXT STATEMENT WAS " YOU CAN PUT THESE ON OR YOU CANT COME INSIDE. SO YES DR. MURPHY WE LEFT AFTER THAT. YOU STATE AS IF WE HAD ANY CHOICE. 3.While I would never attempt to assume what "medical conditions" you and your daughter have that would prevent you from wearing a mask, there are very few medical conditions that would be severely affected by wearing a mask for the 15 to 30 minutes your appointment would have lasted. THIS IS PERHAPS WHY YOU ARE A VET AND NOT A MEDICAL DOCTOR. YOUR REVIEW WAS NOT ABOUT YOUR MASK POLICY, IT WAS HOW THE SITUATION WAS HANDLED AND NOW YOUR RESPONSE ON ITS INACCURATE REMARKS. 4.I believe in science and I will not put my staff nor my business at risk by allowing you and your daughter to potentially expose us to this virus and put us at risk for infection. THIS SCIENCE YOU BELIEVE IN HAS LEAD YOU TO AN ODD CHOICE IN MASKS WHICH YOU OFFERED. THE CONCERN YOU HAVE FOR YOUR STAFF AND OTHERS IS VERY NOBLE. YET THE MASK TYPE YOU OFFERED YEILDS LITTLE TO NO PROTECTION IN TERMS OF THE VIRUS MICRONS.

Dr. Murphy and the staff at Birchwood have been amazing. They have been sensitive to the issues with our dog and knowing how difficult the situation is for us to see our dog so sick. They went out of their way to get us an appointment on several occasions and followed up with calls when we had further questions. They continue to walk alongside us during this process, knowing how important our dog is to us.

Dr. Murphy and his staff have always been so good to me and my two dogs. His office staff and vet techs are always friendly and responsive to my calls and appointment requests through the Pet Desk app. Dr. Murphy takes the time to talk to me about my animals and thoroughly check and explain their veterinary needs during their appointments. I feel like he really connects with his clients and goes the extra mile to build a lasting relationship with both the animals and the humans that come through his door. I have been in the office during other families' emergencies and recently experienced my own small emergency with one of my dogs. I needed an appointment without any notice and they fit me into their schedule, same day, without question. I am so happy with Birchwood and I would recommend them to anyone looking for quality care for their pets.

Just got off the phone with rude staff, tried to tell me that the DAPP (DA2PP) vaccine is the same thing as the DHPP vaccine (its not), and that if I needed something else to go somewhere else.
