The pets are so beautiful and living and want to play!!! Loved it. If you do go, and I recommend that you do, you will be ask a few questions initially by a staff and the rules/policy will be explained to you when you need to see an animal and interact with said animal

They were wonderful and made the adoption of our baby really easy. All the animals are taken care of and loved. They really care for the animals and I am forever grateful that they had the perfect cat for me and my other fur baby. He lost one of his eyes when they found him but they took care of him and is so lovable. Thankyou!!

Some of the people are willing to assist and support adoptions. Many others there are frustrated and show their lack of clarity and consideration for families considering adoption and the animals that need a home. We went twice and without …

I’m giving it a one star, if I could give it zero I would. We put in an application for one cat and they denied us and without a reason, I reached out several times trying to find out why. I called several times about another animal and they would not ever give me an answer. They act like they want to find homes for these animals but will deny you without reason. Seems like they have people in mind for certain animals which is wrong. My husband and kids fell in love with one animal and they were trying to push another animal on us and after we ended up wanting that one but NOTHING. Really heartbreaking.

I spent two consecutive Sunday afternoons with my family getting to know their cats. We finally found the right one for us and filled in an application. 20 min later I received an email. One sentence saying they decided not to proceed with an application. My son insisted that I sent a kind email asking why. Never received an answer. Never received one sentence explanation why we were rejected. On the positive side I met wonderful volunteer workers there who were very kind and helpful.

No kill shelter. Great place to volunteer and donate. They can always use shredded paper, towels, blankets, etc.

Found the sweetest little pup whilst house hunting with my fiancee, the only thing that stopped us from keeping him immediately is the huge life transition we are about to move into and he needs time we presently didn't have. The Humane Society of York County welcomed and accepted him with open arms and big smiles. Although it hurt to give him up, I'm confident they will find him the loving and happy home he deserves. Even only being there once you could feel the genuine love and concern they had for him, and for that, they have my eternal thanks and support. Thank you.

I was just denied a kitten for no reason. I have been a cat lover and owner my entire life. I adore cats and give them a great home and tons of attention. I’m not sure how a humane society with tons of cats can turn down a person who has cared for animals for 50 years. This is absurd. If you are going to decline my application at least give an explanation. No wonder there are so many cats at this location.

Most irresponsible, slack, not responsive, NON COMMUNICATIVE team. I will never forgive them. They can broke your feelings easily, not to pay attention what are they doing. Don't waste your time..

I have never met a more caring, hard working, and loving animal adoption agency than HSYC. I called to learn about dogs available for adoption a few weeks ago. The staff and volunteers were extremely friendly and asked great questions about my home/family to help understand what would be a good fit, then recommended several dogs based on the information I shared. I mentioned a few dogs I saw online, they provided great information about the animals, their personalities, needs, and it helped me decide if they could be a potential great fit for my family. I set up a few appointments to meet some animals, and now my whole family is in love with our new addition thanks to the HSYC! The people running this shelter understand how to rehab and prepare animals to find a great fit in a forever home, regardless of their past circumstances. The animals are clearly well cared for and loved by many at the shelter, preparing them for easy transitions into new homes upon adoption. I cannot recommend this shelter enough if you’re serious about finding a great fit for your family. The time, effort, & love the HSYC puts into their animals and adoption process is worth it for the people & animals involved. Blessed beyond words for this shelter connecting my family with the perfect dog. He is 6 years old and more amazing than thought possible!

I loved Christie at York county humane society. I was extremely disappointed that I didn’t receive the dog that I applied for. I had my previous chihuahua for 12 1/2 years and he was a beautiful dog and loved by everyone. I felt the Society made a grave error by denying me ownership of the dog, Mayo, who would have had a wonderful life with two senior citizens instead of a lonely crate.

Left a donation at the door. Office was closed for non employees. Wishing I could pet and love on a big dog since losing my Bertha July 30th. They don't allow that. I was very disappointed.

I cannot say enough about this Humane Society! Every single person we talked to were so kind! They listened to my heartbreak about losing my first baby and finally being ready to add a new family member! This sweet little seal point Siamese has melted our hearts and made our family complete! Adopt don’t shop and stop by HSYC. It’s right down the road from Cabela’s and Carowinds!! So easy to get to and so easy to adopt

They do a great job! Remember to adopt! Rescue an animal you'll be the rescued one at the end. ????

I should have read reviews (Yelp has a lot of detailed ones) on this place before attempting to adopt a dog from here. My boyfriend and I went in on a Saturday to see a beautiful Hound mix puppy, Lucy, and fell in love right away. We submitted an application for her, an anxiously awaited a call back. We were told that we’d get a call soon to schedule a home tour with Lucy. The next day, we get a follow up call asking about our history with dog ownership (we were both previous dog owners owners for over a decade), etc. We mentioned that we were actually at Petsmart buying food and a leash and collar for Lucy at that very moment, and even asked if she came with a leash already. The rep told us she did for safety reasons. Two days go by without hearing from them, and in between these days, I call to get an update. I am told that our app wasn’t at the front desk, so that it’s probably been pulled to be reviewed, and that we should get a call or email with a decision soon. The following day (5 days after we had applied), we get a very generic email around 7pm stating that they have decided to not move forward with our application. We were floored. I email right back asking for someone to give us a call so that we may know why this decision was reached...no answer. I call the center the next day, they tell me that I need to just wait for an email back. I send another email explaining that there was no sensible reason for us being denied Lucy, and that we at the very least just wanted to speak to someone to get some reasoning behind their decision. Of course, we get another generic email back late that night from a Bethany Clark, not answering or acknowledging any of our questions, but instead just stating that they are a “ private, non-profit rescue organization and the decisions of our adoption committee are final.” Nobody could even answer our question of why we never even got a home visit before their decision was made, as they had originally stated they would do. I sent another email back but of course, received no response back. To say that we were extremely disappointed and hurt is an understatement. The Humane Society of Charlotte proved to be a much better experience, and we are now the owners of a beautiful baby girl. A piece of advice for The York Humane Society? If you’re going to randomly deny applications of perfectly capable applicants, at least give us a reason why. The fact that I would have been with Lucy 24/7 since I work from home, and she would have been coming to a spacious townhouse with ample greenery around us, no other pets, etc. and we still get denied before even getting a home visit, is a damn shame.

I call theses people just to see if they seen my little black and brown miniature Chihuahua that went missing, the person I was talking to said that she was talking to someone that just cought a dog like that but said it was not mine and won’t let me go check out, and cought a Attitude with me for just asking a question, she sent me a picture of the dog and it looked just like him but she said never mind thats not your dog. The WORST experience ever! I'll never come back to this place. Unfriendly and unprofessional. The staff doesn't know what they are doing. One fly can spoil the soup.

Went there to adopt a cat. Very happy with the facility. You could tell the animals were well cared for. Can't wait to pick up the cat we chose.

Communication was quick, efficient, and thorough. Staff are friendly, courteous, and you can tell how much they care about each animal's wellbeing. Within a week of our first meeting with Rocket, we did two meet & greets with our family dog and got to take him home! It's been two months and he's the best addition to our family.

A nice local shelter for you to go to and find some sweet animals. They do a good job of assessing each animal's personality and history to the best of their knowledge and ability. When I first came in I was a bit unsure because some of the staff were young as teenagers but they are obviously well trained and worked professionally. I love how they let you be alone in a room with a cat so you can get to know it and be sure you want to take it home when you adopt it. I found my pet almost instantly, a little tabby-white kitty named Amber. She is very playful and charming. I recommend HSYC if you need a pet and need a shelter close by.
