The best vet experiences I have ever had! The staff is consistently friendly, knowledgable, and very kind and gentle with our dog. Dr. Hendren exceeds any expectations I could have for my vet. She is clearly well educated, smart, and experienced. She is an excellent diagnostician as well as veterinary surgeon. I would recommend Commonwealth without hesitation.

We brought our new puppy (our second dog) to Commonwealth Animal Hospital for his initial check up. They were friendly, helpful and answered all of my questions. We always get great service at this vet office and we’re happy to be brining our second dog there :)

The staff and vets here are absolutely amazing. They really care for the animals, take their time and listen to you, and are always quick to respond. They give you all the options and not just the one that costs the most money. I wouldn't take my dogs anywhere else.

BAD: I feel obligated to warn everyone who may have to put your beloved pet down unexpectedly at Commonwealth. They partner with Faithful Companion, a local pet cremation company that "extorts" money from grieving pet owners. Faithful Companion is ridiculously expensive, charges a flat fee that is double what a cremation service should cost (My cat was barely 6 lbs, and they wanted over $300. while another local company in South End closer to the vet office charges $169). And you won't find out until they already did the job, holding the ashes hostage, and leaving you dumbfounded on the phone when they ask you to pay up. Commonwealth should have informed sad pet owners that we have an option to have them hold the body until we decide on the arrangement (I could have selected a different company). And at the very least, they should inform pet owners that they use a company that overcharges. FYI, this is the 2nd vet office in the center city area who partner with Faithful Companion, which is further away near the airport. I truly believe these vet offices receive kickbacks. Otherwise they should have sent our deceased pets to the closest, more economical legit crematory in town. I am appalled by the unethical business practice from an otherwise good vet office. GOOD: We have been taking our cat to Commonwealth since I adopted her in 2005. She's a feisty cat, and the staffs have always been patient with her. She became my parents cat and they were always treated kindly by the clinic. Even on the fateful day when we had to unexpectedly put her down, Dr. Fisher was diligent and compassionate. We were at least given a potential reason for her demise (can't say that about Long Animal Hospital who just wanted me to put down my dog).

Wonderful receptionist. Easy check in. The nurses/ assistants were fantastic. Great personalities and tried to make my cat comfy with treats. The doctor was communicative and helpful. Informative and very friendly. Easy appointment. No stress. Lots of love for my cat, ERIK.

After going to multiple Charlotte area vets, Dr. Burley saved us from having to rehome our cat. The cat was antisocial and not using a litter box for nearly two years. Inconclusive blood testing from other vets left us hopeless. We decided to try Commonwealth before rehoming him. Dr. Burley wrote up a care plan that we stuck to and within 3 months our cat was happy, social, and using the litter box again.

Great friendly staff and Dr. Hendren is very thorough in answering all questions and very confident in all of her recommendations. Our fur baby is always very excited to see her.

Everyone here is very professional and super friendly. They were on time - we waited maybe five minutes. Which is nice when you have an anxious pet! You can tell they love their animal clients! I was a little sticker shocked, but I know all animal care is expensive. That aside, great place!

My girl has been going to Commonwealth since she was a pup. Nearly 2 years. Every experience has been wonderful. The entire staff are so nice and knowledgeable. They answer all questions (which were MANY in the beginning). The docs are not shy to get on the phone and spend a few minutes explaining everything and answer questions. During COVID I was not allowed to go in with Willow but when we would pull up and the tech would come out to get her she was not scared or shy. That’s a great sign of trust going on behind closed doors. They are also reasonably priced. I can not recommend this vet office more! As a pet parent it can sometimes feel uneasy or being upsold. You will NEVER have that experience here. They do not make you feel you have to do anything or try to upsell you on things. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

I took my pittie mix Elbie in to be treated for a week of bad bowel movements and blood in his stool. He's usually terrified at the office, but the trazadone had calmed him. My wonderful vet, Dr. Hendren, said "let's talk this through, I think we can figure this out without sedating Elbie," which is what usually must happen because of his fear. So we talked it through! He got some antibiotics for colitis (yikes!) and some paté flavored food, which he totes enjoyed (as well as the our cat who wanted a taste). He had a positive vet visit, which is huge for him and is already doing better. Thanks to Dr. Hendren for her calm and reasonable approach with Elbie. Commonwealth Animal Hospital is the best!

I must say that I brought my Tuxie Heimdall in with some apprehension as he was a rescue. Shots and dagger trimming was the need. The whole experience was far harder on me than him lol. He was treated with care and cooperated fully with the staff. This was a great choice and will continue using this hospital for any of his needs!

From reception to technicians, all personable and caring. Did not get all names; 1exception - Carley. Also like Dr Hendren’s thoroughness, taking time, caring, attitude. Helps that one of her fave breeds is Woodrow’s … GSP.
