These people at Pet Refuge are doing God's work. I am so impressed with just how much love and attention they give all of the animals in the shelter. I've adopted from them twice (Fiona and recently Faye) and have begun donating in support. …

We stopped in. The door was open. We couldn't find anybody. Granted it was a Saturday and the person on duty was by themselves and was in another part of the shelter. It was nice and clean and the cats were spectacular! We were hoping to look at dogs though

Doesn’t let people on without calling and then suggests just looking at the very confusing site of pet finder instead. Not the best place to go, they’re not very friendly. Seems like not many people access this location for a reason.

Went there looking for a kittie for my elderly mother. Everyone was very nice and so helpful. Found the perfect cat and we’re thrilled to have her.

The nicest place on earth. A very special no-kill shelter with many cats waiting for forever homes. I wish that I could have taken all of them - I always do when I go to a place like that! My husband is not quite as taken by them as I am however, so my hands are tied...ò

Luv this place..they're very helpful!! The rescue animals are very well taken care of and it has more of a homey feel. Some cats get to roam around and greet ppl and they come in and there are several large cat towers for them to hang out

The staff was wonderful, informative and very kind. They made sure you had your hands cleaned between every animal you visited with to keep them all healthy. The animals information cards were helpful on finding the little guy's names and genders. I enjoyed visiting and hope they help all the animals they have find homes.

I applied ahead of time and was quickly invited to make an appointment. I walked in and there she was- the sweetest cat ever who fits right into our home and family. There are many cats there, more than listed on the website, so if you’re considering adopting please go visit! I’m so grateful to the Pet Refuge for providing a sanctuary and homes for cats in need. ♥️

I volunteer here when I can and most of the cats are "lifers" and the care they received is great. The cats are placed with kitties with similar dispositions to ensure they are comfortable with each other. They are played with and pet everyday. There bedding, housing and food areas and materials are cleaned and washed daily. They have indoor and outdoor space and are mostly healthy. This place does a lot with the very little they receive. Even the ferrel cats are cared for and well taken care of. Many of the cats are free range throughout the facility.

A great place to adopt a cat. The staff is very hard working and caring. The facility was clean and NOT smelly as some disgruntled people stated. I spent around 5 hours there over the course of 2 days looking for a good fit for my family. I was never rushed or made to feel unwelcomed. I would highly reccomend this shelter to anyone looking to adopt a well cared for cat.

This place does an amazing thing for animals. They take in abandoned animals and special needs. They are a non-profit so every little bit helps if anyone would like to donate to them.

To those who have left bad reviews because they have been denied a cat, I have volunteered at pet refuge for many years. The staff and volunteers put forward a great deal of effort to care for these cats, sometimes through illness and injury, and make sure that they find a good home. We do a very similar type of screening as many other rescues and shelters. It is done because we want to make sure that cats won't be abandoned, left outside to become torn apart by wildlife, or in any other way mistreated, denied basic veterinary care, or neglected. If any of you could hear even some of the calls we get every day about things that happen to animals, sometimes at the very hands of the humans who are entrusted to care for them, you might understand why shelters have such careful policies.

Is a wonderful place to give a cat or kitten a home. They do so many great things to give these cats a chance. We adopted a mother and son Siamese mix. They are wondering cats with incredible personalities. They give these cats a second chance. Great thing to do.

Just adopted a cat and there main concern is the animal is put in a loving home!!!

They were not friendly or helpful, had a lot of animals there but had one excuse after another why the animals were inavailable. Honestly, it didnt even seem like they wanted them to be adopted. Also messy, unorganized and a little dirty. Exeter animal shelter was way better and we ended up adopting a pet from there instead.

My application was denied because I have a cat door. I live on 14 acres and my house is a half mile off the street. They insist that cats be indoors only. My last cat lived to be 18 years old. He hung out inside and outside with my dog. They'd rather have a cat be cooped up in a 1 bedroom apartment than have an awesome life on a farm.

I was so lonely after my beloved dog passed. I needed new friends. I bought 2 kitten Russian Blues. After the waiting period I never envisioned that these little guys could bring me so much happiness. They saved me not the other way around. I owe Renate my happiness going on 4 years now. I always donate whatever I can frequently. Thank you Renate for giving me my dear boys. BTW the negative reviews I have read I can't understand. You will be so happy with Renate and The Pet Refuge. "Who saved who"? Respectfully Marc Miller.

I'm only giving this place two stars instead of one because of all the good they do for the animals here but we were treated poorly here and denied a cat. The woman running the place made us feel unwelcomed and did not follow through with our application. We left feeling uneasy and she has not called us back about us adopting a cat that we wanted. You'd think with all the cats they have, they'd be more willing to let people adopt. Just be careful....
