Dr. Weiss is the real deal, and we more than appreciate his forward thinking and openness. It's refreshing that an exotics vet with his level of experience actually listens to clients and entertains new science and ideas... something we've found sorely lacking when seeking care for our pet rats. He was able to discuss and perform a hormonal implant for us when our current vet wasn't even willing to research it. He is also very transparent about procedures and advised us against spaying our older girl. We truly value the honesty and so does she!!! We've been used to getting the brush off and generic advice when it comes to our precious girls. That's sad, considering we've spent thousands at this point for their care. Conversations are two sided with Dr. Weiss, which is invaluable. Our rats are our family, and we'll go broke trying to do whats best for them... so we can keep them alive and thriving as long as possible. Every dime is worth the extra time. Thankfully bankrupcy shouldn't be an issue here howevever, as the prices are fair/ on par with everywhere we've been. We haven't had to use the clinic in an emergency situation yet thankfully, but the front desk has been very helpful. We're confident if there is ever a real danger they should be able to assist. COVID has made everywhere chaotic... but for a clinic right in downtown Philly they're doing a great job holding it together.

When our dachshund puppy decided to find his way into the trash can and stumbled upon a "feminine hygiene product" and wanted a little snack we called right away and they were able to get us RIGHT in! With COVID, we weren't able to go back with him but that wasn't an issue knowing he was in good hands with all of the staff. They did everything to get him better ASAP and took all of our worried phone calls that night after he was discharged as well as reached out the next day to see how he was doing via text. When I called to let him know he was back to 100%, the woman that answered the phone seemed so happy to hear from us. We always feel like were VIP's here and can't recommend them enough.

They go ABOVE AND BEYOND and truly care about the animals and pet parents! I searched far and wide for the best exotic vet in the area. Dr. Weiss is incredible, professional, genuine and responsive. A veteran in exotic vets of over 25+ years. Since day one, I have felt the quality of care for my bunnies has been top notch and I trust them completely. I recently got a puppy and have her seen at 2nd Street too! Just got her spayed! Dr. Weiss performed both the neuter procedures for my two bunnies and my puppy’s spay procedure. All with positive results. Dr. Weiss has responded to my emails personally but I am really writing this review in real time as I had a crisis with my one bunny tonight, on a Sunday night, when 2nd Street wasn’t open. I was chasing my tail trying to find a 24/7 emergency vet that would see my bunny. I called DE, PA, everywhere in north and south Jersey without luck. I was in tears and frustrated. I had emailed 2nd Street hours prior explaining the situation and despite the time, Dr. Weiss himself, responded to my emails at 11:30 at night, advising me on what to do and that Milkshake could be seen the next day, despite not having a prior apt. If that’s not professional and above and beyond than I don’t know what else is! Dr. Weiss also saved me from a procedure and gave me his honest opinion. It was an expensive bloodwork panel for my bunny. He could have easily taken my money but didn’t want to put me or my bunny through that. I wasn’t charged for the appointment despite taking up some time. All in all, I couldn’t be happier and will continue to bring my animals here. I left my previous vet of 20+ years to come here. I also love how they call the day after just to check on your animal and they are very quick to email back (I’m the annoying patient who emails weekly with questions and I’m always afraid I’m annoying but they always answer, both the techs and vets AND 9/10 can get you in for an apt same week! HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend!!!!

drove over an hour away to come here, staff was very friendly and helpful. other exotic vets were estimating over a month of a wait, or emergency centers in NJ. this animal hospital scheduled us for the same day and much more affordable as well. would go again but hope not to have to

My family brings their dogs here & the care has always been great. They provide great care for the animals & are very knowledgeable. I have come along for the visits in the past and currently considering bringing my new pup here. I came here to look up previous reviews to get a big picture idea. I am giving 5-stars for the service but would recommend not arguing back with every review you aren’t 100% in agreement with because it’s making your facility look argumentative and defensive, with zero accountability for any review that’s not perfect. Sometimes there is room for improvement. While the care is super, the customer service behind the keyboard, could use some help.

So nice and helpful. Very serious about Covid protocols. Seemed genuinely interested in my cat and the best things that could help her. In fact, the only prescription I left with was a list of well-researched over the counter remedies—I appreciated that they didn’t jump straight to prescribing expensive meds. They also sent a follow-up text asking how my cat is doing! So sweet.

We have a very senior rabbit who is almost 12 years old. She recently developed head tilt, and when she also had decreased appetite, they were able to squeeze her in as an emergency visit. My husband took her and he said they were extremely knowledgeable and thorough with their diagnostics. We just moved to the area and will continue taking her here for their rabbit-savvy vets. Thank you!

We are new to the area and based upon recommendations from everyone we met we decided to take Brutus here after he had some episodes of vomiting over the weekend. We tried other emergency hospitals but they were too busy to see him and actually recommended 2nd Street. We were seen as an emergency and though we had somewhat of a wait the doctor, nurses and front office staff were exceptional. We were assured, after a complete evaluation, that Brutus' issue was not one of major concern but a result of him grazing on our new plants! He just needed some medication and for us to get artificial plants! Thank you all we are very pleased!!

Had an emergency and was told to bring the dog over immediately. Had to carry down flights of stairs only to get there and be told she can not been seen until 1:20. My dog is in pain and they offered I pay an additional $150 to have her admitted before she is seen. Receptionist was rude and unprofessional, and I will be transferring records to a new vet.

I will never come back to 2nd street animal hospital. Long story short. I work the overnight shift. I made an appointment for my dog for 1:30 pm . Even when they called to confirm the day before to confirm the appointment. And said 130pm. I showed up day of appointment at 1:13 pm. They tell me I'm late. I tell them no. It's 1:30 PM. Not 1pm. That conversation which was very very very unprofessional goes back and forth for several minutes. They say you can still be seen NOW. Which is at my actual appointment time, but there will e a late fee of $20. I said and explained I will never come back. This isn't the first time they tried this. And they just lost a customer over there mistake and $20 late fee. I will be telling everyone I know not to take there animals there due to there horrible customer service. I never write bad reviews at the same time this was a super easy fix. Which they obviously didn't care to handle. I take 2 pets there also.Again they just posted the incorrect information. I told them 1:30 pm because I get home at 8 am from work. Easy fix but we can play tennis all day long bottom line. I will never come back. And tell others not to come. Easy easy fix. And being under staff is not to problem. Focus on customer service then. Have the practice be I understand there was a miss communication and let's work this out. Any who. That's that!

Okay so my 1 star rating comes from my experience with them over then phone, I didn't get very far at all! I called there pretty much extremely desperate to get an appointment ASAP and I didn't care how much it was going to cost in the moment because our kids' pet iguana was literally dying and we didn't want that to happen by any means! I asked the girl who answered the phone if they cared for exotic animals such as iguanas and she said yes. So I proceeded to give her all the information that I could about him; that he is a baby iguana no older than a year, his himd limbs are very swollen, bottom jaw very swollen, hasn't eaten in days, very very lethargic, barely drinking water and he's literally dying!! She said so nonchalant "Well the doctor is booked but I'll ask him if he'll "squeeze" you in as an emergency appointment but it'll cost you $150 not including any medications he may need and puts me on hold for literally 3 seconds and says I'm sorry the doctor is too busy but you can take him to NJ to the emergency hospital. Smfh. This place has ZERO compassion and didn't care to try and help and it was disgusting to even have to deal with!

The ONLY place we will ever take our pup! Not only is the staff amazing but they truly care about all the animals there and always make sure our dog leaves happy and healthy! They call after EVERY visit (even if it’s just a well-check) to make sure he’s okay and go above and beyond each and every visit! They’re very diligent about following COVID-19 safety protocols as well which we love!

Have lived in Philly for 12 years. Have used numerous vets for different issues. The doctors and staff here are by far the best we have ever encountered. Very professional and caring. Detail oriented. Great follow up on appointments and our pet’s issues. Readily answer email questions. Can’t say enough positive things!!! Great place for vet care

Got my puppy too early at 3 weeks old. Been taking Hunter to this hospital ever since. Dr. Bittner and the staff was nothing but compassionate and kind with our little premature pup! He is now 6 months old and going to his check up this week. I wouldn't take him to any other vet. This is his second home.

I have two nervous dogs and have never had good vet experiences before here. The staff have been very helpful with the dogs and very kind and supportive overall. They've taken time out to answer all of my questions.

I am a life-long bunny mom and nervous wreck. Four vet visits later, two at another hospital, Dr. Bittner along with Dr. Weiss and Dr. Adams, their insanely caring nursing staff and every wonderful employee at the office found, hopefully and more than likely, a crazy underlying cause to the two weeks of distress my rabbit has been through. Ive already reviewed this hospital but I need to, again, because 2nd Street is the sole reason I’m not picking up and moving across the entire country right now. The care here does not only extend to my pets, but to me. There is not a team of vets and staff in this country who are as calm, disarming, AVAILABLE (literally answering my emails and calls at all hours, and allowing me to pop in every time I freak out), and flat-out genius. Dr. Weiss has been my vet since my first bunny, 20 years ago, and his extended team will be my only practice of choice. They deserve a parade. I cannot imagine having to deal with me, and they never once made me wait or feel concerned, or invalidated. I am obsessed with this practice and you will be too.

I had a wonderful experience at 2nd Street Animal Hospital. After my kitten Judas suffered a fractured leg, they were quick to get him in for x-ray imaging and surgery. Dr. Weiss was very thorough in explaining my options regarding surgery. The staff were compassionate, helpful, and responsive to any concerns I had. Judas will be jumping all around again very soon! If you’re looking for an animal hospital that puts your furbabies first, 2nd Street Animal Hospital is the place.

We can't say enough about the quality of services and incredible staff at 2nd street. Every person on staff is clearly an animal lover who will go above and beyond to interact with you and your pet and make you feel comfortable and welcome. Any concerns we've had with our pets' health are always carefully considered and addressed, and they follow-up with us after every visit without fail. They've exceeded our expectations since day 1 and we routinely recommend 2nd street to pet people in the area!

doesn't allow humans indoors. it is the end of may 2021. they expect customers to hand over their dogs to strangers while you stand outside like a moron. all correspondences are done through phone or email. no doctor interaction.

Every person who works here is attentive, caring, friendly. I've utilized not only their vet services, but their boarding services for cats as well and I feel so confident that my animals are safe with them. They clearly outline all charges for services and make sure you feel comfortable with the costs before they do anything. They even offered to put adoption flyers up for my foster cat who was having a hard time finding a home. I would recommend that everyone take their pets here.
