**PLEASE READ BEFORE CONSIDERING DONATING OR SURRENDERING TO THIS LOCATION: The SPCA is a tremendous organization with noble intentions, but this location is a black eye on an otherwise prestigious name. I’m visiting family from out of state with my animals and my dog has been terribly ill for 8 days. After doing research online, I was thrilled to see there was an SPCA close by that advertised veterinary services, as well as highlighted being a place that truly cares for all animals. A place whose mission statement on their website includes being “dedicated to humane education” sounded great considering we have been unable to find a vet that is taking new patients at this time. I was absolutely appalled and disgusted when speaking with Mark (what he claimed his name was). I called in and asked if there was any way we could have our dog evaluated and he said “there’s no vet services at this location” which again is surprising given what is advertised on the webpage. When I asked if he could recommend if there was another SPCA location close by that could possibly see my sick dog, he said “no I don’t know.” How uninformed can a person be about the organization they represent? Nonetheless, I asked if he could make any recommendation at all about another clinic or place I might be able to take my dog to and he proceeded to hang up. If a person could be this cold with the understanding of how sick an animal is, and is working for an organization asking for donations to take care of families beloved pets, there should be major concerns. Do better. Screen for better employees. If this is the best you can do, those with pets should seriously consider going elsewhere and donating elsewhere.

Had to euthanize our 14 year old mini Schnauzer who had dementia. Going to miss him. Everyone at the SPCA was understanding and were a great help getting us through this awful time.

My childhood dog came from here and I had adopted 2 dogs from here when I was an adult. After 2 out 3 of my dogs passed away my family and I looked to adopt again. I started looking at the website to see which dog would be the best fit for my family. I put in several applications and never heard a response. So the last application I put in I called about the dog everyday for a week. I finally got a manager who heard my kids in the background and stated that because I had small kids they would not consider me a suitable placement. To say I was heartbroken was an understatement especially since the dog we were looking at the profile stated it was good with kids, other dogs (we have 1 old guy left) and cats. We ended up going with a rescue that had the same issue when they tried to look for a dog for their kids. If you have young kids don’t even bother putting in an application.

This place is a joke. I meet with this beautiful dog and the kids and so feel in love. She was so sweet. So I applied for the dog. After a week of calling I was told I was not approved. Why you ask? Because 4 years ago I adopted a cat. The cat ran away and was returned to the shelter. They called me to pick up my cat. It took me (a single mother with a FT job and 5 kids) 5 days to get a ride from Philadelphia to the shelter in Montco to pick up my fur baby. Their response- I’m neglectful. 4 years ago I had just moved to PA. I have no family here. Her response well people make arrangements. I did sorry it took a little longer than your liking. I picked up my fur baby no problem. Sorry that my lack of transportation is neglectful. It’s a shame you have dog that need a loving home. Wonder how many other people they did this too

Wish I could give 0 stars! They allowed me to adopt a cat that at the time I didn’t realize (I’m sure they realized) but has many medical issues and I have had him less than a mouth! They allowed me to adopt him and he has feline stomatitis and I’ve had him less than a mouth!! They failed to fully examine him. I’m not happy. This should have been caught by them pre adoption and now my sweet cat is in pain and has to have every tooth extracted. They also gave me meds for him without them seeing him. I called a few days after his adoption saying he was displaying weird symptoms and they just said “oh come pick up doxycycline for him”.... Don’t you have to examine before treating?? Than when I called about my concerns they acted like they did not care because I am sure they don’t.

I would like to share my review from just a phone call to the Manager of the facility. I filled out an application and called to follow up on my application because I noticed the picture of the pup I was interested in was taken down. Back in 2016 I was asked by a friend in desperation if I knew anyone who wanted a 17 week old pit. This poor baby was taken away from bad people who kicked him, broke his tail and left him outside for days. I agreed to take him and planned to find him a home because I rented and already had one dog, I didn’t want to upset my landlord having another. I couldn’t find anyone that I knew or trusted enough to give him a home so I took him to the Abington SPCA thinking he’s a pup and someone will adopt him quickly. I cried the entire way home and called back the SPCA right away to go pick him back up an hour later and he has been with me ever since. My point to the story is when I called today to talk to the manager he was rude and said I was definitely not going to be considered because I surrendered my dog in 2016! I was in tears after I was treated like I was a horrible person and made to feel like I was being marked as animal abuser or like I didn’t deserve to have animals! The Abington facility never put in their nifty little computer that I returned the same day an hour later to get the pup back out and took him home. The same pup is 6 years old now and the best dog I ever had. Maybe people should be given a chance to explain the situation before being RED FLAGGED from ever adopting and giving a loving home to animals. These people rather give them to animal abusers, people who only take them as bait dogs, euthanize them or to people who dump them because they can’t handle having an animal!

Whoever handles the reviews for this SPCA is very good at their job and informing clients that they've reviewed the wrong SPCA. My apologies

Why doesn’t your shelter network with pre-approved rescue/foster groups, as other shelters do?

I've been here before. Sadly I may have to rehome my dog. My family is kicking me out. I know being on the street with a dog is hard. I love him. But he deserves better. I'll miss him.. Hope he finds a good home.

We had just lost our dog back in august and decided in October is was time to find a new family member. We saw Maya and instantly fell in love. The process was fairly simply and we put in our application for her on saturday and heard back within a week that we were selected to adopt her. The staff was friendly and I've heard for other animals they try to match the families with the best fit.

I visited this SPCA twice after losing my dog of 13yrs. I looked at a few animals and came across a beautiful cat. I asked to hold him and immediately fell in love. As I began to walk away I happen to notice another cat sitting behind him. I called over to the cat as he slowly got up looked at me and sat back down. I then looked at the card on the cage and noticed they were surrendered together. I then asked the attendant if they were together and she said yes. I then stated that I wanted to adopt the cat but did not want to separate them. After all they were both 8 months old. The previous owners had given great details for their care. That’s why I was really shocked when the attendant kept telling me to separate them and take one. She then claimed they wouldn’t be effected. It just didn’t feel right to me . Then a second attendant also chimed In stating they would not notice being separated . I was actually being pressured to take only one. I then refused deciding to keep them both together. It was the best decision I could ever make. Love Always, Skinny & Storm
