Adopted a kitten who is sick and can’t even get back in contact with the facility. Very disappointed

The shelter was clean and the staff was friendly but the process of trying to adopt a cat has been a nightmare. First you need an appointment in order to come view the cats in the shelter, the appointment slots open up every Sunday and if your not quick then you’ll miss your chance. The amount of cats on the website to choose from was ok, but it’s not very accurately updated. I had an appointment today that I took work off from to be able to come up, only to discover that the ONE cat I really wanted had already been adopted out (they were still available on the website though). Alright that’s fine I can look at other cats while I’m there right? My only requirement was that the cat was at least a year old. I was told there were TWO cat in the shelter under that category. Ok well I’m show this sweetie that I fell in love with, until the worker realized she wasn’t a year she was only 8 month. Disappointing but alright. The had one other cat I could look at while I was there, and it was a cat that had already been returned to the shelter and the cat hissed at me multiple times. The only other cats they had were in surgery, so I guess Thursday is surgery day, wish I had known that. Just not a fun experience and I left disappointed. And this has been the story for every other shelter in Oregon. I have applied from multiple cats online from this shelter as well and never had success because I think they forget to take the listings down. I’m not trying to be mean but I’m just trying to tell the truth that it’s been very frustrating.

Drove over an hour just to be turned away and told we have to have an appointment just to walk through and view the cats

This is an amazing organization! One of my fur babies came from you all and he is the best addition to my family. If you're looking for an amazing animal organization to give to this is it!

I had a great experience adopting and had a very kind and caring person help me with that process. We love our addition, a kitten we named Charlie. Unfortunately, Charlie was extremely sick when adopted (we had no idea) and had cost us far upward of $1,000 and we aren’t even done treating her yet. She had advanced ringworm, giardia, and hook/round worms. This has been a nightmare with another cat in the home and a 4 year old. It’s been months since bringing her home and we still haven’t been able to just let her “be” here. I love what cat adoption team does and their mission but I feel very uneasy about the fact that I had no idea I was adopting a very, very sick cat. If I had at least known—I could have wasted less having multiple vets trying to figure out what’s wrong, and saved myself a little bit of money. She’s worth every penny, as she is family, but I am a working mother and used every bit of savings on this.

Went with my daughter to look for a kitten to adopt. The staff was kind, explained everything clearly and she left with an adorable kitten! They were ALL adorable!

I cannot rave enough about CAT!! They go above and beyond to care for these cats and kittens! We adopted 2 brothers. They made sure our adoption went as smoothly as possible. I love the time they take to detail all the necessary steps. We had some questions a few days after pickup and got quick responses.

We had a great experience here. Brought home a beautiful new friend. Knowledgeable, helpful staff. They are doing things by appointment only at this time.

Great experience. Kittens and cats are a first come first serve. I got Suellen from them a few days ago and she's such a great kitty. She is friendly nice and have had no issues with her. They take great care of the kitties here! If you're interested adopt and take home before someone else does! Thanks. Plus it is great that they come neutered spayed and upto date on all shots. They even gave her a blanket and some toys and a bag of great quality cat food. You can really tell that they take really great care of the kitties here. I'm thankful for the experience and I'm thankful that they care more about the kitties than profit. They are trying to make a difference in the world for the kitties:)

We got the best cat from here about 3 years ago. The staff was super friendly, listened to what we were looking for and nailed it.

The adoption process was not smooth and I felt like I was given very poor information about anandas’s prescription food. It was a lot easier then I was told. Also the dental work is so hard to get scheduled. It’s been a month and I don’t have her chip information either. All in all I have such a loving healthy beautiful cat baby. She is amazing

This is a great place to adopt a rescue cat and they have adapted very well to Covid restrictions. We were very pleased with the process involved with getting to know our cat virtually prior to adoption, and the process was both thorough and easy.

I was just going to foster when I lost my companion, but my new furry family found me. Really appreciate the support from our adoption counselor. Love that they micro chipped my babies.

Would be great to see pictures of available cats and kittens but your page never loads or shows any pictures. Other than that you guys do great work.

I had a great experience adopting my cat from here. The team was very polite, knowledgeable, and communicative throughout the whole process. I really appreciate how they want adopters to be educated on the needs of their new companions, and even offer assistance post-adoption. Misty was especially helpful and kind. My new cat is so sweet and so happy—adopting him has been the highlight of my year!

"I DON'T CARE" Regarding the possibility they may be adopting out lost cats folk are looking for. I've never written a bad review before. THIS PLACE IS THAT BAD. LIED TWICE in our phone conversation; once about the cat's appearance, the other about the law regarding the amount of time regarding right of ownership. Has made every effort to make it impossible for lost-cat owners to SEE if one for sale might be theirs; and after several interactions, now, having given far too much benefit-of-the-doubt each time, after this last interaction I wouldn't put it past them to lie about something so seemingly crystal-clear as whether the cat wasn't neutered when it came in, just to keep people from seeing if it's theirs. I told him what he was doing was wrong. He didn't care. I told him it was unlawful, he told me to call the cops. This guy has shown himself to have no qualms, no ethics. Does only the bare minimum, knowing if he keeps us out then he can keep his precious plausible deniability, and shirk his lawful responsibility. The only explanation for the level of walling they put up. Otherwise it'd've been as simple as a five minute visit to see the cat wasn't mine. Says he wants to help, then in the same breath says he doesn't care. Read the other bad reviews; EVERY ONE I've read so far basically say the same thing: "Makes you wonder how much they really care about cats' finding good homes." ----update 4/15/21: see the screenshot of their response. It doesn't seem to be appearing, here's the copy/paste highlights: "I think you may be confusing us with another rescue organization." "CAT rarely receives lost or stray animals--most cats come to us from other shelters and rescue organizations. " First trying to claim this was my mistake. No, I've tried MANY Times to see TWO cats at your building. Every time some excuse to keep me from even looking, even entering the building! Then trying to claim they don't have many strays, yet in the same sentence claiming theirs come from "other shelters." And where do shelters get theirs? STRAYS. This is the EXACT "plausible deniability" they hold so dear to. They wouldn't let me see the first, claiming "It couldn't be yours, this one came from Texas." It had come from "Best Friends" in TX, but upon calling Best Friends, it turns out they get theirs from shelters All Over The Country, Including OR. This is a racket, they can ship cats from shelters here, to Texas, then even ship them back here, so they can shirk their legal obligation to allow owners to reclaim their lost pets. If a *person* finds a stray, they're legally required to make it possible for the owner to find/claim for 30-90 days (depending on the county). If a shelter takes in a stray, they can put it up for adoption after 3-5 days. They're SUPPOSED to allow the remaining days for the owner to find/reclaim it, even if it was adopted. The adopter is SUPPOSED to be informed of their responsibility. But, because they ship them out of state, they know the owner Won't find it. Then they ship them somewhere else, or even back, to an adoption agency who can quite literally say "we don't/seldom take in strays" and "this cat came from Texas!" And flat-out *refuse* to even let the potential owner in to even look at the cat. This wasn't just one staff member, Numerous. One even said "if we let /everyone/ in who's looking for their lost cat..." Oh yeah? WHAT would happen? WORST CASE: Someone might see a cat that resembles theirs and get tunnelvision and adopt the wrong one? Paying your adoption fee in gratitude for your taking care of it. Maybe eventually realize it was a mistake and /maybe/ bring it back for a return? Heaven forbid you make a sale based on a mistake. So instead you let NONE in, let no one see whether a cat you've acquired is theirs? This is your business. You can't just shirk those responsibilities because one or two people ask for your time without paying for it. It is unethical.
