I've taken my cat here for five years. They've always been very attentive, punctual, and accommodating of his medical needs. They know cats, they love cats, they'll treat your cat right.

I am so happy to have found Cats in the City. I hired Cats in the City for in-home cat sitting for my two cats, one being a ragdoll so she needs a little extra attention. I received nothing short of excellent customer service from Dan. He was responsive to all of my inquiries about my cats while I was away, relieved any anxieties I had about leaving them, and sent photos as well. I wish I had found Cats in the City sooner. I could not recommend Cats in the City, and Dan, enough! Truly an amazing service and we will continue going to Cats in the City for all of our cats needs! Thank you, Dan at Cats in the City!

Loved this place. Looked very home-like for the cats. Wish I could have seen the inside of the business. Gentleman that helped me was very nice and explained everything to me about taking care of my cat.

I would give Cats in the City - Tabor a 10 star review if I could. My kitty was feeling ill a few days prior to boarding him during our honeymoon, and so he received a 14 day antibiotic injection at the vet. He wasn't eating much at all, and he looked very visibly ill. I was extremely worried about leaving him without his cat parents. I told Cats in the City about the situation and they manually syringe fed him for a few days, until he started eating on his own again! I remember crying on my honeymoon because I was so relieved to hear he was feeling better. They also were very attentive to any issues the kitties had, and are such experts at cat care. They picked up and gave us plenty of time over the phone whenever we called to check up on the cats that we boarded. They even had some time to go outside on the Catio and enjoy the sunshine. I am gobsmacked at the quality of Cats and the City and will be using the service again. THANK YOU, Cats in the City!!

Excellent service. They clipped my Persia cat exactly as I requested. They are friendly to humans and tender to all cat customers.

Our cats had the best time, were well cared for, and the employees were great when I called for updates.

My cat had a really bad ingrown claw, I called every vet in the area and no one could see him for 3-4 weeks. Plus all of them were going to charge $300+ for the removal of the nail. So as a last hope, I called Cats in the City (I wasn't even sure if they could fix ingrown nails). Not only were they able to fix it but they were able to get me a next-day appointment and did it for $35. they trimmed all of his nails including the hurt one and they did it in literally less than 5 minutes. They did an amazing job and the staff was SO caring and knowledgeable. I am absolutely blown away by this company ❤❤❤

My cat stayed here two times, in Sellwood. I was nervous the first time as it was my first time being a cat-parent, boarding up the baby and leaving for the first time, for reasons one can imagine. Aesthetically peaceful to all my senses: from the pathway which leads through a well-loved and cared-for front foliage garden, and through the front porch to entry way, with some neutral, pleasant scent wafting besides the breeze. The house delivers in reality as the photographs online depict, and even the pictures hardly do justice as more senses are involved in real-time. I met two different gals (it's been a little while, so please forgive my forgetting their names) at the front desk, who were each tremendously gracious, patient/understanding, and intelligent in their position. Besides being active with posting updates on social mediums for those parents who enjoy that, upon pick-up both girls each time relayed informative and personalized summaries. I'm touched by their sincerity and personal enjoyment in this little cat house. Also, a big plus in my understanding of customer service: they were flexible and understanding with my financing as my card just expired without my awareness upon pick-up. Thank you, Cats in the City, for taking such excellent care of all these cats and their humans!

Grooming a cat is spendy. it is also tricky work, especially when the fur is full of knots. This was our first foray into having a cat groomed and we choked a bit at the price but Penny was a mess. Her silky fur was balled up in knots, especially on her tummy, despite our best efforts to cut them out. I felt totally comfortable leaving Penny in their very calm and obviously caring hands. When we came to pick her up is was a miracle. It was shocking how much fur they were able to get out of her and she was smooth and gorgeous. She didn't seem anxious or upset by the experience, in fact, I think she had a good spa day. We will most definitely be back!

I can tell Cats in the City does the best for my pet because she is always so happy when I pick her up from their Tabor location! It is extremely easy to book boarding or grooming services online and they are quick to respond. I've had my pet stay with them on several occasions and she is always chipper and happy when I get her back home. I think your pets behavior helps you know how the stay went. Her behavior tells me she loves to stay with them. I picked her up today from her first ever grooming appointment and she was so calm and happy. I was impressed! They provide loving and professional service for your treasured fur-covered family member. I can't speak highly enough of them or the Mt. Tabor team! Thank you for always taking such good care of Newt!

i love Cats in the City!!! I have been bringing my two cats here for a few years now. Screech is aggressive when it comes to getting her nails clipped and she hates being picked up.. Other groomers fear her, some refuse service. The folks here have been incredible!! As nasty as she can get, they clip her nails and give her a bath without any incident. I love Cats in the City!!! My screech comes home calm, smelling fresh, and her nails, which are weapons of mass destruction are trimmed. Thanks from Screech and Bubbles!!!

My husband contacted these people and they told him they had two people who would work with our cat and that they were very experienced. One would keep him calm while the other worked on the grooming. They told him they comb him and give him a bath. I should've spoken up because our cat has never had a bath (most cats don't like baths). He was told the appt. would be 2-1/2 hours. Also a red flag in terms of how much time a cat would be willing to endure so much handling. Our cat came home and was mute meaning he COULD NOT meow. It is now on day six and he is sometimes able to emit a squeak. This indicates to me that he was quite traumatized and meowed so much he hurt his vocal cords and that THE STAFF DO NOT KNOW CATS well enough to know when to stop. We've used plenty of other cat groomers who did a great job but seem to have disappeared in the pandemic. We won't go back. REPLY to owners comments of 12/21/20 You called my husband immediately after my review was posted and spoke for quite sometime yet never mentioned anything about our cat's skin or "wounds" that you describe in your response. What you did tell my husband is that you had some work to do in learning how to deal with older cats and asked him if I would take my review down. It is true our cat was matted though not to the extent you describe and not from lack of trying to find a groomer, almost impossible in a pandemic. In recent years we've used a mobile service but had no luck with that this time. It is very distressing to be accused of being irresponsible pet owners. If our cat had wounds why weren't they pointed out to us so we could keep an eye on them? I would be very disturbed to not be told this if what you are claiming were true so I'm relieved it isn't. For the sake of argument however, let's say he was as badly matted as you claim, shouldn't you be able to tell when a cat is stressed and take measures to calm him. Or, explain to the pet owner that you will have to space out the grooming so as not to stress him? When my husband picked up our cat you only told him that Beanie would be a "candidate for Gabapentin next time." So you obviously knew he was stressed. It is interesting after reading all your responses to negative reviews that you never take any responsibility for complaints.

I discovered this place by accident due to restrictions from COVID. The "PET" stores are currently grooming dogs only. This place is a full-on salon for cats. It's fantastic, and they always take great care of my furry one. I've only gone to them for grooming at the Sellwood location. Other services include boarding, cat sitting, and even door-to-door cat relocation. It's quite remarkable what they offer. The secondary site is off of NE Tabor. Keep in mind each location has its days and hours. If you're a first time customer looking to make an appointment, it's effortless. You can do it by phone or email. I left a message, and they called not too long after. Also, due to COVID, they have strict protocols in place regarding masks, drop off/pick-up, and social distancing between staff/customers. All of this is entirely understandable and frankly wonderful to see. Upon arrival, you drop your cat carrier in the designated taped off area. You ring the doorbell, and when greeted, it's immediately disinfected for the next customer. There are signs displayed for cat parents to stand over 6ft away to interact with staff. If somebody happens to be dropping off/picking up at the same time as you, they will ask you to wait off to the side. The building itself is not a building at all. It's a beautiful barn red house with a tall wooden fence surrounding an enclosed backyard turned garden that easily transports you from concrete jungle to cat paradise. The home easily blends into the surrounding community, which means it's hard to miss from the road, mainly depending on which way you're driving down SE Tacoma. Parking is typically never an issue as you aren't there too long to fret about it. However, you park on a busy street and so the time of day could determine how long you wait in your car to get back onto Tacoma. Now, if I could remove half a star, I would. The prices are high. They have an acceptable policy that your furry friend has to receive a bath, dry, and brush out along with a nail trim before you can receive any add-on services. This comes to $95 ($70 bath + $25 nails). They do have a complete package that costs $209. The package allows for any add-on, except for flea bath/treatment. Oh, and should they find your cat has fleas during the appointment, they immediately treat it for safety reasons. The first time I went, it cost me $165 (bath, nails, de-shedding, sanitary trim, and oral care) just for services. Factor in the tip, and it was $195 altogether. The staff typically block out about 3hrs for every appt and will always give you a 30min heads up. If you choose de-shedding, they bring out a small wastebasket to show you how much hair came off your cat. I was shocked. Not only did it fill the basket, but it also matched the physical size of my cat as if she had jumped into the small basket herself. All in all, if money is tight, those other groomers are perfectly acceptable. But Cats In The City ain't FURminating your cat or hurriedly trimming their nails with other dogs in the room, 20 min up and out. You know where your money is going. This place takes their time, and you see it in the results. My cat seemed more at ease, more confident, and looked incredible than any previous grooming trip to one of the "PET" stores. As long as I have the funds, I will no doubt be coming back here. She's worth every penny. P.S. It's very tough to justify going back to one of those other places after coming here.

Amazing service, very friendly staff! We’ve been taking our cat Berry here for spa day for awhile now and she loves it every time. Very spacious, thoughtful rooms for cat boarding too! I recommend this place to all my friends that need cat grooming/boarding ????

This our first time taking George, our fur baby to cats in the city. He seemed way less stressed and went back to normal much quicker. These guys did a wonderful job and we will be back for another shave soon.

I had such a wonderful experience with Cats in the City. I couldn't find a groomer that was accepting kitties during COVID, but then I found these guys. Everyone I dealt with was kind, responsive, and obviously knew what they were doing. They are taking some of the best COVID precautions I have seen. I will absolutely be back, for both grooming and boarding purposes. Highly recommend to anyone-you may feel like you're paying a bit more than you would at the competitor, but it's worth every penny.

I have been going to this place since 2016. Our first experience was boarding our cat Houdini who had a history of seizures and needed medication. These guys were awesome and she was stable and well cared for. When she passed away we got a beautiful card. They truly understood our pain. Our next experience is with our current rescue cat Luna who needs grooming. She’s very sensitive and skittish. Again these guys are gentle and loving. Our cat has always come home relaxed and totally clean and groomed to our total satisfaction. I trust them completely. Please give this place a try. They are worth every penny and will take care of your cats like a family member.

I thought this would be a great place. And it was clean. But I was called out of town 2 days early for a family emergency, and when asked about the refund, they said no. I saw no information on this when I checked in. So during a difficult time in my life, they made it even worse. I needed that money to help get me out of state. Very uncaring. They not only got my money, bit someone else's that booked that same place. Never going back

Very useful and helpful cat hotel. My only complaint was the hours that you can drop off and pick up your cat are limiting and somewhat inconvenient. Price seemed fair, and the staff was helpful!

I have search the Portland area to find a groom for my Precious. After reading all the reviews I decided to give Cats in the City a try. Especially after reading they specialize i. Cats with heart issues. Precious and I are very happy we did. The frist time we went was because I had been out of town and no one brushed her out, being the Persian she needs it daily. Anyway she had lot of mats. When I picked her up I was so nerves but what I saw made me tear up. She not just beautiful but extremely happy she even gave the gentleman (sorry I didn't remember his name) a kiss. The second time I brought her in we had a miss communication on how I wanted her cut. The way everything was handled insured me how amazing they are. I left a message asking the groomer to give me a call because I was a little confused about her cut. I was told groomers where off but some one would call be back when they worked again. In less then hour I received a call back from the gentleman who groomed her. He explained everything to me. Basically they handle everything so quickly and professionally at the same time giving me comfort about how my baby was treated. Long story short even though it is not the cut I wanted Precious and I are both very happy. We will be returning????

I totally recommend this place! The staff was fantastic and polite, communication was really easy. I have a Savannah kitten, who is sometimes hard to manage, due to his high level of energy. However, this cat house did a great job at it, my cat returned home safe and happy.
