Years of various reasons for contacting them, Danielle seemed to always be the person that contacted me when I first contacted them years ago, so I ended up saving Her info in my cell, so she was the only one I ever remember having contact with but, she always showed me that she cared & was concerned about the cat I was calling about whether it was a possible lost pet or a feral. And unfortunately Crescent City has 100s of them! I can't imagine her volunteering for anyplace that wasn't excellent with cats!

They got me in on a short notice to get my new kitten spayed when all vets in town and brookings were booked up. Very nice people.

2 Years ago, I got my first cat, Sophia, there. A month later we came back to get her a brother, Ramsey. Last month a kitten jumped thru our window and wouldn't leave. I made an appointment at the vet to get our new boy, Deuce, fixed and shots ... Over $160. Called DN Humane Society. Got him fixed, shots, deworming...only $60. Thank you volunteers, SO MUCH!! My neighbors went for 2 kittens. I will talk you peeps up, always. ????☘️????

There's a dog in the pic for the shelter. No dogs there? Scretchy run around? Very weird, no matter what else is said. Weird. . . .how can you be good at finding stables home when you have feedback like this and instead of changing pic to cat, you write argumentative anti review? I repeat, WEIRD.

No dogs here, only adorable kittens and cats. To visit or adopt you'll need to call first to make an appt or email them and wait for a call back. We are all volunteers here, so there are no at set times or business hours. Please make an appt first.

For some reason a lot of people still get the "dog pound " animal control....confused with The Humane Society of Del Norte. Humane society does not have dogs, we are an all volunteer cat shelter. County Animal Control is a County run facility, with paid staff and some of our Humane society volunteers help out at their facility. We do offer low cost spay/neuter program for both cats and dogs.

An all-volunteer non profit group, and they do an amazing job taking care of the animals in the area. They have to deal with a lot of crazy people who take advantage of their services (see Tammy Carr below) but that's the business unfortunately. I got my kitty from here, she came spayed, with shots for cheap- much cheaper than the rip-off pet stores in the area!

I would like to address the other reviews that came before mine... Those reviews referring to dog adoptions do not apply to Humane Society of Del Norte, as we are a cat shelter. We do help with dogs as needed when it comes to spay/neuter, transport to other rescues, fostering, etc... If you check us out on Facebook or in person, you will see that we are two different places. They are Del Norte County Dog Pound or on Facebook, Dogs of Del Norte. I personally feel that they have worked very hard to get a good adoption program in place with the best interest of the dogs at the top of the list.

Alright so we're looking to adopt this dog that was in the shelter for 3 years according to his petfinder profile. We finally get a nice setup to accomodate plenty of pups and we are looking to adopt this dog so the day came...A little old lady came with a big bright smile, that day my roomate was ill.. She also had a stomach bug so she threw up it was out of her control.. So this old fossil lady that came gave us a negative review about our situation.. She was shady as hell, probably robs pies out of windows at night.. Do they just have something against the sick? Anyway the guy that was helping with the whole adoption process doesn't get back to us 6 weeks later after leaving numerous messages via email and phone he finally comes on today and gives some POS excuses why he didn't get to us sooner and why the dog was his favorite and how it would be better to give to a foster care and let us have her when they got tired of her and you didnt reply because you guys went to get licensing?? Messed up.. anyway this guy said she was his favorite if she's your favorite why post her on petfinder?! it's like saying you love your wife but you post her on craigslist under "Casual Encounters"..

I had been interested in one of the long term dogs at the shelter because I knew I could give her an excellent home. Initially the communication was great. I live out of the area, so most was done via email. After months of going back and forth the coordinator found a volunteer in my area to inspect. I own my home, have 3 separate fenced in areas, feed organic raw and veggies, and have excellent references from local shelters that I've volunteered at, and adopted out a 5 + year pit mix who had been at the shelter her entire life. The volunteer showed up for the inspection, and low and behold I happened to get sick. Apparently they felt I "wasn't ready to adopt" due to the fact I got a stomach bug. I attempted to call, email, and leave messages over the course of a few weeks to explain to the coordinator, Justin, that it was a misunderstanding. He dodged my contact attempts claiming it was licensing season, and that he was busy. Then eventually when he was sitting at the phones and had to answer my call I got a chance to speak to him. Still no real reason as to why they wouldn't adopt out to me. Their whole statement is about finding their animals great homes, which I have. Justin claimed this dog was his favorite, and he would rather have her remain in her foster home instead of being adopted out. Not sure what's really going on at this shelter, but it seems pretty fishy to me. I truly hope these animals get out of these cages. If it were me, I'd be jumping at a situation like mine for any of these dogs, especially ones who have been there for years.
