Mt Bachelor Veterinary Hospital Bend, Oregon

I have been taking my two dogs to see Dr. Rex since moving to Oregon 1 year ago. My older dog, Dexter, has recently experienced some health issues and has had to come in on short notice multiple times in the past few months. The front staff are always friendly and remember who my pup is. They are extremely accommodating in fitting me into their busy schedule and always go the extra mile for him. The main reason we love Rex is because he is extremely knowledgeable and stays up to date with changes in medicine / science. He is someone who will look into an issue by calling a colleague, doing the research, and getting back to you with new answers. I trust his expertise and many years in this business. He is a straight shooter, thorough and he is honest. What more can you ask for in a vet? If you have a puppy or senior dog and do not have insurance, I highly recommend taking advantage of their senior and puppy packs. They pay for themselves if you are getting vaccinations, neuters/spays, or dental cleanings (for senior pack). Muriel, Stephanie, Dr. Rex, and all other friendly humans who I've had the pleasure of working with this year: thank you for all that you do for my babies. I am grateful to have found a loving veterinary practice in Bend.

A very friendly atmosphere

Mt. Bachelor Veterinary Hospital is wonderful. Dr. Rex and his staff are very loving and gentle with our rescue dog, Daisy. Thanks to their experience and understanding, Daisy feels surprisingly safe and secure with them. Being anything but terrified of something new is not ordinarily easy for her. We also truly appreciate the way Dr. Rex is with aging dogs. He helped us keep our beloved miniature poodle alive and happy long beyond what we could have hoped for. When it was finally time to say goodbye, Dr. Rex was very reassuring and kind. I was a wreck inside, but trying to hold it together for my dog. Dr. Rex was very thoughtful and empathetic. I was barely able to speak and was lost in so much emotion, but found I was able to trust and lock into his voice so I could make it through that very hard day. He knew just what to say and when and gave me all the time I needed through the process. Thanks to Dr. Rex, I felt like I could send my little guy off to a better place with love and peace in my heart. We wouldn't take our dogs anywhere else. They are in such good care with Dr. Rex and his wonderful staff.

I brought my dog to get his teeth cleaned and nails trimmed because this place has *the best* deal in town. Everybody was very friendly, and I had him back in just a few hours. This was the only time we've been to this office, so I can't speak to other services, but I highly recommend them for teeth cleanings!

We used Dr. Rex and Mt. Bachelor Vet Services when we moved into town and our dog needed urgent dental care. Dr. Rex and his staff gave good care, she was treated well. But when in person Dr. Rex was always abrupt with me, and as our dog developed other issues I found Dr. Rex difficult to communicate with in person. He rarely had much time for me, even as I was dealing with end of life care. Ultimately we chose not to use his services to euthanize our dog and went with someone who had a gentler touch. We're getting a new dog, and will be looking elsewhere for care. I want to be clear: Dr. Rex's medical services were fine. It was his brusqueness and lack of gentle bedside manner that will be sending us looking for a doctor that we can communicate better with.

Best veterinary care services I have used to date. Dr. Rex is very caring, confident, helpful and able to explain things fully. He is friendly and kind. And the prices are the most reasonable I have seen. I love the positive and personal experience that he and his team provide for my dogs and my family. I would recommend this facility to anyone looking for a new veterinary clinic, for any situation big or small.

I would give Mt Bachelor Veterinary Hospital six stars if I could. I have never had a veterinary call me in a couple of days to see how my cat was doing and spent time explaining things and what my options are. But REX ULrich did and answered all questions and am so thankful!

They did a fantastic job cleaning my dog's teeth, and they were all very friendly, and affordable, will definitely continue going to them!

I highly recommend Dr. Rex and his team to any of my clients/patients seeking full service medical care and, in particular, dental work (I am also a veterinarian and I do preventative healthcare - vaccines, dewormers, etc.). I also take my own animals to Dr. Rex when there is something that I cannot address directly. Dr. Rex is an outstanding veterinarian with years of experience. His diagnostic work-ups and treatment plans are thorough and well-informed. His care, and the care of his team, is incredibly compassionate. As a veterinarian myself, I have always been on the same page with him in terms of diagnosis and treatment (always a good sign). In addition, I have been volunteering with Emergency Animal Rescue Services (EARS) to rescue animals impacted by the Holiday Farm Fire during the Oregon Wildfires of 2020. Not only has Dr. Rex always been willing to help out with the rescued animals, but he volunteers his time and donates his own resources to do so for free. I highly recommend him for anyone seeking outstanding medical care for their fluffy family. I am guessing the negative reviews left below were from people receiving bad news about their pets in terms of prognosis or medical care the owners themselves had been neglecting (i.e. hard pills to swallow). - Dr. Heather Broughton, DVM, PhD

Update: This is just an update. Since my review below, our Yorkie had a knee surgery. He has torn his ACL. Dr. Rex performed a successful knee surgery and our dog has recovered well. Dr. Rex has followed up with us several times after the surgery to make sure everything was fine. Once again, superb service and care. Very satisfied. Dr. Rex, You cleaned our Yorkie's teeth on Monday and had to take out some of his teeth as well. Thank you for the follow up message. Your service was top notch and we will recommend you anytime! Could not ask for more from a veterinarian. Your staff was also very nice. I am glad we gave your clinic a chance and you did not disappoint. PS: Our dog is doing fine :)

I want to give this place a massive shoutout. They really took good care of my dog. I have a yorkie who needed teeth work, and I was on a really tight budget. They offer extremely competitive pricing and made sure my Joey got the work he needed. Thank you so much for working with me and taking good care of my pup. He really appreciates it too.

Check out yelp on this guy before you waste your time. Horrible! Rude, I got my cat and got out of there. My first clue should of been my appt was an hour after I called. A good vet you have to wait to see. Receptionist friendky, but the Vet.....no way

Doctor Rex was good vet in the beginning good with my dog, then he became very rude said my dog was crazy cuz she was so scared of him, accused me of lecturing him I have no idea what he was talking about there, very insecure man, volatile personality, seen him take alcohol into his office. His staff is very good. La pine Animal Hospital is the best. I have used them for 16 years.

I have had a few bad experiences here. I ended up spending more money because my dog never healed after receiving an evaluation from the vet. Everything felt very rushed and dismissed as if my dog wasn't really taken care of. Vet spent more time talking and trying to up sell unwanted products.Wasted money here. After all this they failed to reply with records to the new vet I visited. Would never recommend with the other options available

Avoid this place at all costs. If you're allergic to cats you'll "love" the multiple cats roaming around every counter and surface in the office. If you dare try to question the charges on your bill be prepared to be guilt tripped into blindly paying. Our dog died shortly after visiting this Vet which was the 3rd vet we visited in town. After taking our deceased dog to the emergency vet clinic to be cremated we received letters from every veterinary we went to expressing their sympathy for our loss and offering words of encouragement, we heard nothing from Mt.Bachelor Veterinary Hospital. Maybe I had a bad experience but after seeing the level of service that the other Vets provided even after our dog had passed away, I will never step foot in Mt. Bachelor veterinary hospital again.

I was trying out this clinic since I'm new to the area. I raise purebred very expensive cats let's just say that. I brought in a kitten for a wellness check and vaccines two days before she went to her new home.  I was sure to reiterate that she needs a thorough health check for heart, joints, eyes, ears etc. They assured me she was clear. Well the kitten was flown across the US to new York and within 3 days the new owners vet reported to me there is no way my vet could have missed this kittens heart murmur! Needless to say this clinics lack of due diligence or just doing simple procedure to protect it's customers cost me about $2000 dollars out of pocket..a lot of hassle and a huge ding on my reputation I've worked hard to uphold as a responsible honest breeder.
