These people do not know what they are doing. They do not have any dogs currently available because all of the dogs that they advertise on their website are all currently in treatment or training. And some of the dogs that they have advertised are not even at the facility, about 25% of them are currently in home trials which means that they are no longer available for adoption. That is textbook advertisement fraud. If you were currently looking to adopt a dog or even a cat because I bet their cat department is the same mistake. I highly recommend going elsewhere for adopting a dog. I saw about six dogs that I really wanted to meet and every single one was either in a home trial or in treatment or in training. The individual that I was talking with her name is Margaret, she did not provide any means of getting my information, getting me to apply to adopt or give me any kind of time frame in terms of any of the dogs that are in training or any of the dogs that are in treatment that I was interested in. Again terrible experience even if it was via email and me looking at their website. I never visited the facility I never called them, and quite frankly I never will now. Again if you are adopting, I do not recommend this place.

So this place wants you to fill out a 5 page application to adapt a cat via email, ok no problem... You go to their site, click the adopt a cat form and you can not fill it out lol, the dog adopt link you can; just not for the cats. I guess I could print out the form, fill it out but they want it EMAILED to them. How can you email a piece of paper lol? No wonder they have 300 cats here, there is NO way to get past set one of the adoption process. The only conceivable way to get a cat is to work here or know someone working there. This is not even mentioning the super picky interrogation they put you through(from what I read) were they deny good homes for these animals based on how they think you should raise the animal. This "shelter" is just an old age home for animals, where they are forgotten. So sad. ---> Go down the street to OARS, better by a thousand times; their cats are actually adoptable and have more then 1 employee working(at least 5-7 people working when I go there)

They told me that a cat was available and then gave the cat to someone else

This shelter believes no cat should ever be outside. That should tell you everything you need to know about the mental state of the people running the facility...

STAF is the real deal. They are extremely communicative via e-mail. You can tell they really care about their cats. I adopted a cat and they sent me home with everything he needs. This is the best animal shelter in Cincy.

Horrible shelter. I had something come up last second and I had to cancel my appointment. They read my email but did not respond to it for 5 days. They would not respond to emails after several attempts to reschedule. Their mailbox is full or not set up so you cannot even leave them a message. I understand they are 100% volunteer, but they were very unprofessional. Once they responded to my emails finally, before even meeting with me they decided to reject me based of my application because I did not have a fenced in yard. Well there is a great dog park and an awesome hiking trail very close to my condo. I feel bad for the dogs because some of them have been there for a long time, and the unprofessionalism of the staff is denying them to good homes. I have owned dogs for 22+ years so I have experience owning dogs. Never again will I try and work with them. I found a great other shelter and they allow you to come in and meet with as many dogs as you want and are very friendly and helpful. Because they care about actually finding good homes for dogs. I HIGHLY suggest looking elsewhere, which is a shame because they have some good dogs their. Just an unprofessional staff.

Our family is very thankful to all the volunteers who keep the Save the Animals Foundation open, you are all SO WONDERFUL! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there adoption process had to be adjusted and it was incredibly seamless. After submitting an adoption application we were scheduled for a pre-screening phone conversation with an Adoption Coordinator, we spoke with Julie who was so lovely and kind. We then were scheduled for a visit to the shelter to met and play with all the kittens and cats! So fun! Upon arriving at the shelter, we were greeted with a warm and welcoming [masked] smile by Adoption Coordinator Amy. We immediately fell in love with Jemma and scheduled a pickup the following week to give her time to see their in-house veterinarian. Adoption day! Jemma is about 20 weeks old and is a Russian Blue breed. We were sent home with a gallon of cat food, gallon of litter, toys, and a plastic carrier to safely transport Jemma home. Perks of adopting a slightly older cat? She was already litter boxed trained and immediately used the scratch boxes. #winning We are absolutely blown away with the shelters service, everyone was lovely and supportive through the seamless process of adopting our kitten. We couldn't have imagined it any better, all the volunteers are very passionate about what they do and it's truly received by those who visit the shelter. Thank you!

After filling out the 5 page application, I was rejected for answering a question “wrong”. I appreciate they want pets to go to a good home; but as several others commented, they seem very judgmental. I grew up with a Vet as a stepmom. We had every kind of stray running around our house. AS an adult I’ve always had a pet. Finding myself with out fur friends I went looking for a good shelter. Because I indicated I might declaw; I was rejected without ANY discussion. I didn’t see anywhere on the website that they won’t allow declawing. I know this topic is a hot button. My step mom always declawed; I’ve declawed with no issues... however, I’m not opposed to not declawing. But they didn’t give me the opportunity to even have that discussion. If they really felt that strongly about declawing, why would they not try to educate potential families on the topic. According to their website they have over 300 cats! Yet they reject good homes. It really is unfortunate. I can’t comment on whether or not you should get a pet from them nor how they treat the animals. But they treat humans without much respect.

Garbage dressed in recycling. Judgemental self-promotion at the expense of what ego you can offer them. I cherry-picked two great dogs from the SPCA and still feel the need to explain myself to these crazy cat people. Withdrew our application immediately after their treatment. Don't deal with these degenerate, under-age retirees. Just see what's out there, besides the vestigial WASPiness reserved for backwater inferiority complexes. Their animals stay there too long for the animals' behavioral health.

This summer, I adopted from STAF for the second time (first time was in 2015). My experience both times was fantastic! Jean was wonderful in helping me meet and spend time with kitties that fit my preferences. All of the volunteers were very friendly, too. My vet commented, at our first appointment post-adoption, that STAF is considerably more thorough than most other shelters in terms of the medical checks, etc. that they do. I would recommend you adopt from STAF!

Probably the most detail oriented rescue I have ever dealt with. True dog lovers to the core, they will do whatever it takes to pair you with an animal so that it's the best situation for both you and the pooch in question. The only drawback is that after visiting, you'll want to adopt a whole pack of new canine pals.

Great adoption agency that really care about both the animals and the people adopting them. No-kill shelter that wants to match animals with their forever homes!

The BEST no-kill dog and cat sanctuary in Cincinnati. 100% volunteer run.

They were really responsive when I reached out about adopting, they were respectful about digging into my background but they made sure I wasnt doing this on a whim or for nefarious purposes, and all the animals I saw seemed well cared for and happy. They took the time to let me make an informed decision and didnt rush me and once I did make my choice they had mandatory think it over time to make sure the endorphins weren't making my decisions for me.

Terrible! Judgemental! So many cats needing homes and they keep them away from potential adopters. Place smells horrific and the volunteers were very rude.

Just adopted a wonderful cat through STAF! The staff were very helpful and obviously cared about the animals in their care. They're also very generous with the supplies they send home with your new friend. I would definitely recommend this shelter to others in the area looking to adopt!

We recently adopted our sweet cat from them and we cannot say enough good things! STAF was so thorough and caring. Every step of the process demonstrated that they were detail-oriented and were working hard to ensure that each adoption would be a good match. They gave us so much valuable information and we loved how evident it was that each person there loves all of the animals they care for so much. To anyone considering adoption or donation, I would highly recommend contacting/supporting STAF Cincinnati. Thank you, STAF, for helping us find our perfect furry family member!

A wonderful place to volunteer, they take amazing care of cats whether they're adoptable or not.

The old bag giving this place 2 stars because SHE MANGLES HER CATS BY DECLAWING THEM as well as letting her cats go outside is the real joke! DECLAWING A CAT IS WRONG. Does not matter if their indoor or outdoor. All cats should be indoors! Glad they didn't adopt out to that woman!

Worst experience for a shelter. Good luck adopting a cat here, they make it impossible.

A wonderful rescue. No kill shelter. The only thing that I would change is the adoption hours. Not very flexible.
