Puppy tested parvo positive days before being old enough for his shots. I realized that he was pretty bad. I asked them to euthanize. They convinced me that he had a better chance than I thought. 5 days and $4500.00 later they euthanized my …

I took my Ginger in for emergency help after she'd been hit by a motorcycle. They took her right in, but not without informing us of the costs related to emergencies. My initial call was the same...all about the money. The vet I spoke to after her exam said she had a concussion but the prognosis was very good. The next morning I called to check on her and a different vet said she'd had seizures during the night and that even with a lengthy stay she wouldn't be able to function normally again. He reccomended her be euthanized. I was devastated. I let my father make yhe decision. I couldn't. As soon as he hung up with the office they emailed the total bill/ receipt. She was euthanized and nobody could say how sorry they were for our loss. I'm sure they did their best, but their bedside manner needs improvement. Thank you for what you could do yo help my girl, but instead of pushing th he cost of your services down everyone's throat, show some concern for your clients and their pets.

Being "at capacity" or extremely busy seems to be the standard excuse given here in the replies to reviews. This is unacceptable. My beloved family pet is now at a cremation center after being discharged following surgery at your facility. Please spare me the insincere condolences for our loss in your reply.

We took our Australian Sheppard Here in the middle of the night because we suspected an infection. She was bleeding and her eyes were off. Get there. They take us in. They ask why we never fixed her.. which I thought was a personal question that didn't need to be asked. After waiting we were told she NEEDED surgery. They didn't hook her up to IVs or give fluids at all. We were told if she was given surgery.. RIGHT AFTER we would have to take her to another facility because they close in the morning... After we went and got a second opinion the NEW opinion said they would watch her overnight. See if the antibiotics and fluids would help so we could take her home and monitor for the SMALLER AND LESS EXPENSIVE surgery of fixing her when she's healed. I don't see why they were so quick to cut, especially when they closed the next day. Does not make sense.

We had a wonderful experience at the Cove. I was visiting Virginia with my dog and he ate a foreign object unexpectedly. We needed emergency surgery to remove the object and had it done at the cove. They helped us through this crisis and the doctors and staff here and absolutely wonderful. Would recommend to anyone.

I have never been treated as poorly by a vet as I was with this practices customer service. Rhiannon the referral coordinator was horrible. The way she talked down to me was demeaning, unnecessarily rude, and straight up unprofessional. She spoke to me with the nastiest tone, like she felt I was dumb and unable to comprehend for just asking questions and clarifying information. She sounded annoyed by the entire conversation, and like she didn't want to help. And asked me unnecessary personal information insinuating I wouldn't be able to cover the costs of the surgery. It made me feel horrible and upset. I will never be using this vet. It should not be referred even as a last option.

After 4 hours waiting they did absolutely nothing, said dog was putting weight on leg. No xray no nothing. Monday dog can't walk and is on her way to another emergency vet who will. People Stay away from this place.

Danielle and Dr. Fox with the Dentistry team are excellent! One year ago, my Golden Retriever, Luke, fractured his tooth. Dr. fox was able to do a root canal and save the tooth. Dental cleaning is complementary! Everything went smoothly then. We recently went back for a one year pre-op follow up lab work and a physical (Luke will need to be anesthetized for repeat x-rays next week). The appointment was kept on time, and we were kept informed of the plan by telephone. They are upfront about the cost of everything and cost is reasonable. No surprises! Most importantly, it is evident that Dr. Fox and her team love what they do and provide excellent specialty care. Luke and I trust them completely!

I want to thank the staff for taking care of my Babygirl Bella Satsatin. Bella has been my whole world for 11 years. She became ill Friday night late in the evening and was having seizures I called them and they gave me directions on what to do. After her third seizure I called and went directly to the office. I had been here before with Bella so I trusted they would take care of her , Bella this time was meant to gain her wings. I want to thank the staff for helping me and allowing my sweet baby girl to rest. I am forever grateful to you for your compassion and care for my baby. Alicia Satsatin

Everyone I worked with was amazing. They were very kind and understanding and gave me regular updates while my furbaby was hospitalized. I couldn’t be more thankful to the team at COVE for everything they did. I felt confident that he was in good hands and that they truly cared for his health and recovery. Thank you again for everything you do!

Our puppy went into congestive heart failure and developed respiratory distress, so my husband brought him to the cove. By the time I was able to be included in his care, they had already run our bull up to $2,000 without even fixing his breathing. They let him sit and struggle to breathe for an hour and a half, running all kinds of unnecessary tests and diagnostics. When I was able to speak to the clinic, the receptionist was rude and condescending. I stopped her rambling and discussion of lab tests to ask how his breathing was to which she said, “the same”. I asked why is our bill at $2,000 and his condition has not improved. Once again, she gave me attitude as if the question was unreasonable. They KNEW his diaphragm was compressing his lungs, due to the fluid buildup in the abdominal cavity, and they KNEW there were pleural effusions also compressing his lungs: confirmed by X-RAY. They had already put a needle in him to test the fluid, so why did they not just take that fluid off? There are two possibilities; they are either grossly incompetent at diagnosing and treating emergent situations, or they purposely take advantage of those that don’t know anything about medical care and drain their wallet, effectively running up a vet bill while not actually fixing the EMERGENCY issue. The cardiology department is phenomenal. No complaints there, but I will NEVER use this ER again

I want to thank the doctors and staff at the cove for their compassion during the difficult decision to let our baby girl Tilly go this past Friday. Dr Feiste was informative and kind in helping us make this very difficult decision.

Our cat got shot around 9pm a week ago. After a 6 hour wait time, they were able to remove the pallet/bullet and splint his broken leg successfully. There was one thing that made the experience frustrating. We were told that our cat needed further surgery to fix his broken leg that would amount to the cost of $5000, (in addition to the roughly $1000 we already paid for the emergency service) we were shocked and declined. We took him to our primary vet the next day, who took one look at the ex-rays and said it is completely unnecessary for surgery and that splinting will lead to complete recovery. She actually said that she has launched complaints to your services for exploiting pets and their owners to undergo unnecessary expensive procedures in what is already a traumatic experience when beloved pets get injured. So while we are satisfied with the care our cat received, we are not happy about trying to get us to pay $5000 for an unnecessary procedure.

The Cove saved my little boys life. Karl kitty is such a good boy and the care, snuggles, attention he got was above and beyond. The over communication during Karl’s visit was something I truly and greatly appreciated of them. I and we (Karl) was so fortunate and lucky to have found this place. The entire staff at the cove went and still are going above and beyond. Today Karl buddy is home and healing because of everyone there. I tired to remember everyone’s name.. haha. There were so many. Pam, Karl’s night nurse a few times, Courtney the nurse that got him the night he flopped down on there table, Dr ried and dr Lad(maybe names spelt wrong), he took a half hour of his time to sit down and talk to me about Karl and his condition, Ben a nurse, Savannah, just to name a few. I wish I remembered everyone’s name. We couldn’t be more thankful for all of you. Thank you for letting our baby boy come home alive and heal.

Had our golden retriever in for emergency care after a mastectomy/spaying for a few issues over the holiday weekend with her drain tube. Dr fixed her right up!!! Fair cost too!!! Very caring and concerned staff!!

They had me wait in the car for 5 hrs until 1am only to tell me that they weren’t going to see my dog. It was one of the most awful experiences I’ve ever had with a vet. I even called to check in after 3 hrs and they said they would see us in two hrs. When the time came to check in I was basically told I’d have to sit there until 8am in the morning. I would have respected it if they told me that in the beginning or after a few hrs. But they waited so long my pet could not be seen elsewhere.

Very unprofessional and uncaring. Took their sweet time coming to the door, as my dog was dying. The attitude was very unprofessional from the staff.

While on vacation in VA Beach, one of our dogs become suddenly sick. We stayed in touch with our home vet throughout that morning and afternoon while monitoring her symptoms, eventually they decided she must be seen by a local vet right away. I called 7 different veterinarians and pet hospitals in VB; all of them reported that they could not admit her. Only one emergency pet hospital said we could come and sit in their lobby but the wait would be 6+ hours (meaning we would be seen at midnight, at the earliest). It was quickly becoming a scary situation when we happened upon a listing for The COVE. Their receptionist said we would be seen almost immediately upon arrival so we drove to Suffolk (only 35 min away) and within 5 minutes a vet tech came out to our car to triage our little girl. The vet examined her and called us with her diagnosis and treatment options; an hour later she was back in our arms with a baggy of medicine and clear instructions for care. I am so grateful to The COVE for their quick, efficient and accurate care of our pup. While emergency medical care is always expensive, I was relieved that we made it out the door under $300 for our girl's particular malady. An added benefit is that had she needed to see the vet again within 24 hrs, they do not charge another exam fee. They remained available in the days to come to answer our questions and share records with our regular vet. 2 weeks later, we are home and our pup has recovered. I recommend The COVE to anyone needing emergency vet care in Hampton Roads.

Upon arrival they took my dog in, checked his vitals, said he was stable and there was a 10-12 hour wait to see the Dr. When they brought my dog out they then let us know he had a fever of 104. They said to monitor him over night and try to get into his vet in the morning. The next day we ended up taking him to a different emergency vet office because when I called and told them what took place they were actually concerned. After a 24 hour observation stay, IV fluids, X-rays blood work and antibiotics, my dog is on the right path to being healthy again. We will never take another animal to the Cove because this horrible experience.

My dog ingested rat poison. The Cove was quick and very professional. We did not have to wait at all and the doctor kept me very informed as to how my girl was doing. I will go back there in a heartbeat. This was a very scary time for everyone and The Cove helped us through everything and was very comforting to me.

I cannot say enough good things about this place! Our puppy got very sick a week after getting her, and while it was a scary experience for us the team at the COVE was the best I could’ve asked for to get through it. We got updates throughout her stay, and when we called to ask more questions/get more updates, everyone we spoke to was extremely patient. The ICU techs were knowledgeable and great at explaining things clearly, and we never felt rushed on the phone despite the many questions we asked. Although it was expensive (which vet care/emergency care is), the costs were all explained to us clearly prior to doing anything. Hopefully we don’t need to go back but if we did I know great care would be given!

The worst emergency animal hospital on the planet! My regular vet couldn't see my pet until a week later. I called the Cove twice asking to be seen and both times I was informed that my pet's situation was not an emergency case and they refused to help my dog. The first time I called I told them that he was itching and biting his skin excessively. (He doesn't have fleas or ticks) The rude receptionist interrupts me while I am talking and snaps that he can not be seen. On the second call a few days day I tell her that his skin is now bleeding bad. Her response was, Not an emergency. WE are too busy. WHAT IF HE GETS AN INFECTION AND DIES? DOES THAT CONSTITUTE AS AN EMERGENCY? I ask her. You are better off going to the emergency vet clinic in Chesapeake if you don't want your pet to die. These people are unprofessional and rude

Don’t waste your time and bring your dog or any pet here. It’s all a money grab for them. My dog had a blockage in his intestines and had all the symptoms. Anyone worth a dam could have figured it out within a couple minutes. They gave him two shots and sent him home with a 103 degree fever. If I hadn’t taken my dog to a real vet he would have died. They couldn’t care less about the pets just that swipe of your card for money. Please save your money and go to a real doctor. 305 dollars for two shots and almost my dog passing away because they don’t want to be bothered in the middle of the night.

We learned last night that apparently every emergency vet other than one has closed near us making wait times 9-10 hours, so we drove over an hour here, they immediately took our girl back after triage and started care, they called us soon after to notify of what was happening and when we needed an estimate on cost they got it right away, unfortunately it was a bit to much because they thought Alita needed to stay the night, when we told them this they immediately tried other measures and got the cost down and our girl got to come home a couple hours later. The only complaint we have is that you cannot come in with your pets but we understand that some vets are still following covid protocol. Alita is doing amazing today and you wouldn’t even know that she was sick last night. We thank everyone who helped our girl and definitely recommend them

Dr. small and her entire team (minus the one rude receptionist I get on the phone from time to time) are AMAZING! I cannot say enough about how comfortable I am when my dog Tinky is under their care and I always know that the services rendered and recommended are ALWAYS in my little Tinks best interest and not financially driven. I trust Dr. Smalls opinion 100% so much so that I drive 3.5 hours for Tinky's visits every few months. It saddens me knowing one day I will have to move Tinky to NC state Cardiology when they open back up after covid but I am so grateful for all this hospital has done for myself and Tinky since she first came into our lives. Keep up the good work! Tinky says thanks for the treats everytime she visits :)

Wish they were closer to us....use them more often. Our dog was tagged by a copperhead and the Cove was closest with antivenen. They took us right in, kept frequent updates and strategy of care. They stay on most conservative path, no extra procedures, or more meds than needed. Very economical and professional - will use them again for emergency care. Thanks!
