This place was great, the Dr and assistant was like leaving my grandbunny with family. Very gentle. He actually fell in love with the young assistant ????.

The only vet in the area with the experience to treat exotic animals.

I’ve been taking my reptiles and exotic pets to Avian and Exotic for 20+ years. The vets a re professional and caring, the support staff are excellent. Would highly recommend if you have an exotic or non-traditional pet (or are considering one). Dr Dan even coached me on caring for my very first bearded dragon before I got him back in ~2001 (and he lived to an extremely old age - for a beardy anyway). Always appreciate everyone here. Keep up the great work!

I had to unfortunately put my rat Remy to sleep due to old age/brain tumor. The vet here is absolutely wonderful. She described to me what would happen in the process, gave me ample time to spend my last few minutes with my rat, and was filled with care and compassion. Thank you all for making this process easier.

I bring my chinchillas to Avian and Exotic and have always been very happy with my experience. Dr. Sokolik is one of the kindest and most empathetic people I've ever met and it means so much to have someone like that caring for your beloved pets. She will care for your pet like it is one of her own and is always available to answer my questions, give me updates, or even just be a supportive shoulder to cry on. Even when it has been time to say humanely say goodbye, the team at Avian and Exotic have always gone above and beyond to keep both my pets and me comfortable. I feel very fortunate to have such a phenomenal exotics vet right here in Raleigh and will always recommend them to anyone looking for a great exotics vet. Thank you, Avian and Exotic team for taking such good care of Pogo, Bounce, Mistletoe, Pip, and Teaspoon. I plan on bringing my current (and future) chinchillas here for as long as Avian and Exotic is around.

They're always super busy, but they care about you and your pets. They're highly knowledgeable and will answer your questions about your exotic pet. Thank you from Demeter and Toulouse!

This office did an exceptional job of caring for my little dude on what was probably the worst day of his life. They were able to schedule me in for an emergency appointment to see him immediately and performed his life-saving surgery directly after his exam. His post op care and suture removal also went quickly and easily. They have my eternal gratitude. If you have birds, take them here if you can. I haven't found anyone better to keep their health in top form.

My Leopard Gecko had a bit of stuck shed in his eyes so that meant a quick trip to the vet. This was our first visit here and if anything comes up again, it won’t be our last. He was able to get the shed removed and had a full physical. They were so gentle with him despite his skittishness. They took great care of him and we were able to leave within half an hour. Thanks!

I don't normally write reviews but my hamster, Boris, received excellent treatment at this vet. A few months ago, I noticed a mass growing on him, which is expected for elderly hamsters, but he had slowed down a lot and I was deeply worried he was in pain and his quality of life had gone down. I called Monday morning and on very short notice they were able to squeeze me in on the same day (for an emergency fee, which I am completely fine with but just as a disclaimer) ; Dr. Sokolik and the techs were all very understanding and very knowledgeable. I decided he wasn't ready to go yet, and with the help of prescribed medication I'm happy to say that the last few months of his life were mostly business as usual for him. After our vet visit, he started foraging for his food, running on his wheel, and burrowing as he has normally done his whole life. He passed away in his sleep today in his favorite house, but I'm eternally grateful he did not have to be in misery these last few months. Thank you.

I adopted my mini pig Charlie 2 months ago, he just turned 4 months old. He started having seizures about 4 days ago and I called everywhere and everyone and they all turned us away. Finally I was able to reach A&E and they got us in right away after hours. I traveled 2 hours and Dr. Dan and Mrs. Sandy waited for us until we got in. They were very attentive and showed they genuinely cared for Charlie and I, since honestly I was a mess- anxious and worried about my baby. They took the time to examine and provide him the attention he needed. They sent us home with everything Charlie needed and showed me how to administer his after care. Dr. Dan also checked in on Charlie the next day to see how he was doing. So far we’ve been seizure free for two days now. I am so thankful for Dr. Dan and his staff, and will be driving to them no matter how far to make sure my Charlie receives the care he needs. Thank you all!!

I was a first-time patient with a new pet, so there's always some nerves that come with that but there was no need to be! The facilities were very clean, the staff were friendly and professional, and everything from basic care to the examination procedures were explained clearly and understandably. I grew up with guinea pigs, but I still learned something new and was happy they took the time to review things I may have forgotten. Overall I was very happy with my visit and will definitely return for our next check-up!

Today I tried to schedule a visit to the doctor (10/23/21 at 8:20). The girl on the phone spoke to me SO RUDE, I have never heard this anywhere. Unfortunately English is not my first language, but no one has ever spoken to me like that! I am still in shock! I just cried after that! I just wanted to schedule a visit or an emergence visit for my rat. I told her that her tone was not acceptable, she apologized and continued to speak rudely to me. It was an awful experience!

I took my pet gecko to A&E on 10/13. The gecko was rescued by me a month or so prior. Dr. Tepidino treated my gecko. The gecko was active, eating and growing. The doctors did find some parasites and the gecko had a stuck shed problem on her eyes. The doctor removed the stuck shed from her eyes. My gecko never recovered from the trauma caused by the visit and died on 10/15. The vet called me yesterday (10/27) to ask when I would be picking up my (dead) geckos medication. They clearly did not update their charts and continue to suggest I simply care about the money this adventure cost me. I simply suggested that $400 was a lot of money to spend on a gecko with no indication that her health is too poor to survive. I strongly feel that Dr. T killed my gecko.

I have love birds that I take here for annual visits and boarding while we go on vacations. This place is fantastic! Dr. Locker is the best. They're looking great, but she's our birds' vet. She treats them so well! She wants to kidnap my 21 year old love bird, and I'd imagine he'd allow her to. Boarding is great too. I get pics texted to me daily with a recap of how they did during the day. Found out my other love bird likes veggie tales. I super love this place.

I wish they were not 2 1/2 hours away, but I see now why people travel that far. The staff and Doctors are amazing, kind, and take every second it takes to reassure you and help your babies. I LOVE that they cared for use like family and not just a first time client.

I had to bring my ESA here for an emergency situation and everyone was so kind. It's quite a drive for me to go to this office, but they're absolutely worth it. They took such good care of my baby, Snowflake, and I cannot be more grateful. She didn't get to come home with me ???? But my other ferret will ONLY be seen here. Highly recommend!

The 8+ years that our family had two guinea pigs came to a close last Friday but this vet center helped us take care of them through the years when they needed special attention (kidney stone removal surgery). Last week they took special care and tact with our last piggy when we had to make the tough decision to stop his pain. I am glad these doctors were in the area to care for our little guys.

I will never take my birds to another vet if I can help it. Staff is clearly very knowledgeable about how to handle my boys and make them comfortable.

Dr. Dan and the entire staff here are INCREDIBLE! My rabbit was having some very complex and odd health issues, and they expertly handled his situation. Dr. Dan even personally followed up with me after I had moved to see how we were doing and offered advice on continuing care. Best vet ever!!!

This Veterinarian is licensed for primates & exotics. Friendly and patient staff that assist the veterinarians. Dr Locke and Dr. Dan are the ONLY Primate veterinarians licensed for Monkeys, on the East Coast, (Marmoset, Capuchin and Spider monkeys). Call and ask if they can assist your pet, ahead. Do your Exotic pet a favor and make sure it is treated properly and accordingly for care. And know with any doctoral treatment the bill may be hefty.
