I never leave reviews but have to do it this time- I have taken my dog here twice. The first time was an okay experience. It’s very crowded and not well kept. The lady who greeted me was nice. The groomer not so much. The groom itself was decent. My dog seemed a bit scared when I picked her up. Second experience- they called me the morning of my long awaited appointment on Thursday to cancel and reschedule. She wanted me to reschedule for the next day ( a Friday on a holiday weekend) or if I couldn’t do that it would be another month out. So I told her (nicely) sure I can make that work if I could possibly pick my dog up by 1 as we were going out of town. The lady in the phone conferred with the groomer in the background who sounded disgruntled but she returned and said that would be fine. Took my dog the next day at 830am as instructed-she seemed like she did not want to go in AT ALL (she is a generally skiddish dog but never that bad once she’s warmed to people/place). I left to run errands and pick my children up, I was not expecting to pick the dog up until 12/1 as discussed the day before. They called me at 1030 and said she was ready. I was a bit surprised and told her there was no way I could come right then it would be close to 12. The lady on the phone said hold on, spoke to groomer- who YELLED in the background “well she was in such a hurry yesterday to get her she needs to come now”! I never once used an ill manner or an urgency when saying I needed to pick her up by 1, I simply asked. If they had said no I would have just taken another appointment time. So I nicely told her I would be there as soon as so could and she replied with something along the lines of “yea you need to come now”. I hurried over and when I picked my dog up I was shocked. She’s a long hair dog who I asked for them to trim her tail and ears and they shaved her completely and cut her tail hair all the way to the bone itself. She seemed genuinely terrified and shook all the way home. She then proceeded to have (what the vet called) “stress diarrhea” for five days! The vet also inquired if the groomer could have given her something without asking me. That I can’t answer. But I will not be returning to this place.

Been sending out anxiety stricken dog since she was a puppy while living in Pittsboro. After we moved to Durham, this is the only place for our dog. This is one place she feels like it's her second home and she loves the staff there. Any mention of the names of Pettsboro staff, her ears perk up and tail starts wagging.

Wonderful, caring doggie-community environment! The owner and team take the time to get to know your fur-baby, ensuring their comfort, safety, well being, and your peace of mind. Strongly recommend! Paws up for a 5-Woof rating!

My dog LOVES Pettsboro! A very loving and attentive staff. When I first moved to the area a friend recommended Pettsboro. Our rescue dog was afraid of crates so we gave him a lot of freedom at home. Pettsboro is the perfect place for him. They give him the freedom to find his comfy spot and he's not stuck in a small space for hours. The animals have fun playing and find their place to relax. Pettsboro is great at making the right fit for dogs by temperament, age and size. It's truly a special place and I know he enjoys seeing friends each time he goes there. They are experts at what they do. I don't worry about our dog when traveling.

Love this place only place my dogs go for grooming, boarding, and daycare

Boarding personnel, especially Paula, are all very nice and very good with animals. Two out of three grooming services were great, one was very disappointing. That’s the nicest most concise way I can say it.

Have had 2 dogs groomed here...its definitely a loud place so if your dog doesn't handle stress I don't recommend. Usually good about sticking to what I ask for, though my small sensitive dog got half a nipple nicked off and another small nick on her leg which they didn't tell me about. Wish they wouldn't keep barking dogs in the check-in area, it's so loud you can hardly think. Stars docked for loudness and neglecting to mention injury.

I found this on google and booked for the Christmas weekend (4 days.) My shih tzu & husky loved it. Lacie wanted to stay because I had to entice her some to get in the car. And that has never happened. They loved it. I would highly recommend.

It's a bit crazy there but they take excellent care of the dogs. I love it because my dog Jet isn't ever put in a cage and can play with other dogs the entire time. He comes home happy and tired, just they way I like him. Toni and her staff (especially Paula) are so sweet and you can tell they love your dog as much as you do!! Highly recommend!

We love Pettsboro- Toni and the folks there clearly love the animals in their charge, know them by name and by need, and treat them accordingly. Our dogs are older but still very sociable- when we come to pick them up after we've boarded them there they seem happier and more energetic, like they've had a vacation too! Having tried several of the normal "concrete box" boarding facilities in the area over the years, we're convinced that the "free range" boarding and care at Pettsboro is the best for our our dogs. It's not the right choice for non-sociable dogs, and it may not be for every dog owner, but after many happy visits we're convinced they're the right choice for us.

100% our most EXCELLENT kennel experience EVER! It truly is a home environment. Our 16 year old dog comes home happy and rested, something that never used to happen no matter how expensive or wonderful appearing the kennel. She usually had to sleep for days after a kennel stay. I just can't say enough good things about Toni and her staff.

Our dog died while boarding here in August 2015. He was 9 and in good health. The overwhelming number of dogs being boarded at this facility and in a relatively small space likely created a very high-stress environment that contributed to his stomach twisting. Afterwards, I learned that this facility had been disapproved for its July 27 inspection and that one of the reasons sited was inappropriate animal-space ratios. Toni was unwilling to take any responsibility for our dog's death. I am sharing so that others can take precaution and potentially avoid the same heartbreak.

Toni the owner gives new meaning to "heart of gold" ..she is a great friend to rescue groups, and her clients are devoted. Pettsboro is the only boarding I would use for my own dogs and for all my rescues waiting for an adopter or transport up north. Can't say enough about the excellent quality of individual care, the romping rooms, the happy clamber of dogs, most of which are not kenneled and are free to pay with each other. Toni has even whelped dogs for our rescues.
