Dr. Justin Church was awesome. My dog had been licking for months and had sores all down his back and stomach. He diagnosed him and gave him the proper treatment and medication. It has only been a few days and the licking has stopped. My dog has comfort and that is all I can ask for. Thank you Dr. Church.

Previously a vet owned clinic but now part of a corporate chain. Staff is the same but the prices have increased a bit. (They do offer monthly plans.) Appointments are now available so you don't have to wait for hours to be seen.

Used to take my three cats here. It was always good when I was allowed to go in there with them. The first time I was not allowed to go in with them because of covid, they hurt my cat's foot pretty badly and split his nail in half. They packed them back in this carrier like that and I couldn't see it until I got back home. I called them back and they told me to try to clean it up but it still got worse, they then told me to bring him in and have the audacity to charge me over $90 to see him after injuring him during a $60 visit to fix something that they caused.

Dr Church is super down to earth and was very helpful in our emergency visit. Hope to never go back :) but will if we need to 100%. A++

We followed Dr. Church to Knightdale when he initially opened Smithfield Road Vet (SRV). Please know this review is not about Dr. Church as we LOVE and respect him. He has always been wonderful and caring to our many fur babies over the years AND we felt he always went the extra mile. In fact if he ever leaves SRV we will follow him again. Regrettably, I don't believe this practice is now owned by Dr. Church. This NEGATIVE review is about the about the change in the practice's philosophy as apparently the Mission Statement of the 'new corporation' is related more to money than compassionate care. Our beloved 11 y.o. pit, Hunter, was very very sick so we started calling SRV on 11.26.21 at 8:00 a.m. When they finally answered we were on hold for a long time. We finally talked with front staff to explain the situation ONLY to be told there were no openings until 11.29.21 and we would have to take him somewhere else if we didn't want to wait until Monday. All we wanted was for him to be be seen by a vet that knew him (and us) as they had taken care of him since he was a PUPPY. We knew we probably would have to let put him to sleep but we wanted OUR VET to guide us in this heartbreaking decision. We did take Hunter to another practice. The vet and staff were wonderful to Hunter and us. And while we did lose Hunter, we left the new practice feeling like we mattered to them! We are very sad to leave SRV but it appears that the new corporation does not care about patient loyalty so we will take our 3 remaining fur babies to another vet. As noted above, we have no complaint about Dr. Church (or Dr. Freels) but we are concerned about the changes we have experienced with the new corporation; today was the last straw.

I'm one hour away so this will be my only visit. They were familiar with AJ's preexisting condition.

My dog was abused by his previous owners. He is skittish when out of the house. I told them this when I made his appointment. I take Paxon in for a nail trim and the girl comes out to get him and attempts to drag him to the back. I have to stop her and explain. Then 5 minutes later I hear the guy cutting his nails getting angry and raising his voice at paxton because he wont sit still and keeps trying to pull away. I will never step foot in this place again.

The very best experience for both me and my dog! Great, caring people and fantastic service! Will never take my pet anywhere else! Original post was written 7 years ago when Dr. Church owned the practice and they actually CARED. Now that the practice has been sold to a corporation the CARE quality is severely lacking and the prices are no longer as affordable. I've been taking my dogs there since the beginning and after my experience today, I feel I am looking another vet. Please note that Dr. Church was not there, unfortunately. I miss his kind and caring nature.

The staff is so friendly and wonderful with me and my 2 dogs.the service is wonderful. They don't have you waiting for a long period of time and the price is right at check out time. And my dogs love them to death.

We showed up on a Saturday at 8:00 in the morning exactly, but we were evidently already late. It took over 4.5 HOURS to see a vet and there were maybe 6-8 people ahead of us. I remember how long it was, because we ended up missing my daughter’s dance class at 12:30 pm. Anyway, we won’t be back. The vets are nice, but the wait is excessive every time I go. They also seem to be overpriced compared to even the NC State emergency vet.

Dr Church sold his practice. The new Drs are money hungry thieves. My cat did not even get a full exam at her annual, and I was told in no uncertain terms my old cat would die in surgery. ??? I have since found a real great vet, cat survived surgery just fine. They made sure to give the drugs that would least likely affect her negatively. Made me wonder that this place does not adjust the surgical medication based on patient's needs, and they are trying to excuse themselves from liability on real malpractice. This place was known for high quality vet care at affordable prices - BOTH are gone! No high quality care and prices have almost tripled! Go anywhere but here...

I’ve been in an out of this practice over the course of a couple years and I have decided not to continue to use them. Let me preface by saying I haven’t ever had an issue with their drs, but their front desk staff is absolutely unbearable to work with. I left because too many vet techs and front desk staff were trying to play dr, their info was wrong, they weren’t humble enough to apology, and in that they would try and undermine their drs to sound right. Today, I rescued a kitten from a tree. The kitten in fear, bit me (understandable) but I still wanted her taken care of. They were the only establishment I knew in the area, and I was searching for someone to help. I knew their was a risk for rabies, and a risk of this kitten being hurt more if she didn’t go anywhere. I entered the building with a very young, dark sandy blonde male teenager and an older woman at the front desk. Explained the situation. Explained I was looking for help. Explained I was concerned of rabies and if there was a way to test for that. With the teenager saying “sure. Only way to test is to cut off the head and find out.” Harsh, let’s work on our delivery. I asked if there was any other way, he said no. I had asked to see a Dr and a “WHAT?! You don’t believe me?! You think I’m lying?!” Came out of this very young, very cocky, very defensive very unprofessional young man’s mouth. Quite frankly, he didn’t have a degree, and I wanted to speak to someone who did being that my experience with them in the past had been less than par with them at the front desk. Additionally, the drs shouldn’t have to continue to suffer at the hand of their front staff. When I asked if there was anything else I can do the kid got louder and said “take it to a shelter! Have its head cut off!” And when looking at the older woman, she said “take it to a shelter” I took the cat to another vet right after. Explained the situation again. Explained all my concerns and how I didn’t want this kitten dying. Explained in the car the kitten was purring, rubbing up against me and playing with my ponytail. Their staff called their dr. Their dr looked at the cat for literally 60 seconds. Said the kitten was not at all showing any sort of signs of rabies, that at its age (approximately 6 weeks) if she had rabies, She’d be over come with it very very quickly and it would take her life. The vet and the vet tech took the kitten and agreed to care and monitor her for 10 days. If no signs of rabies were present, she is now going to find a forever home. If the animal shows bad behavior, it will then “have its head cut off” and I will be notified in order to properly take care of myself Maybe. Just maybe, if I spoke to an actual dr here I would have gotten the same result. But they refuse to let the drs be drs If you dare use this practice, seek heavily for the dr and their input and try to ignore their front desk staff. They should be appalled to have such a young man work there and represent them.

We have a big mixed breed dog that is skittish. They always make her comfortable and she feels safe. Always a positive experience and the cost is very reasonable.

I receive a quote for $400 for my dog to have surgery. The day of the surgery, the bill was $520. When I questioned the price, the technician stated I misunderstood and she updated the records accordingly after my daughter and I left. The technician was completely wrong and I was responsible to pay the additional fee. My dog will never visit Smithfield Road Veterinary Hospital again!!!
