CVS saved my dogs life. My baby was a victim of being attacked by another dog in his own back yard. Elvis being a dachshund didn’t stand a chance against a pit bull. CVS helped us and we’re so kind and responsive. The waiting time I will admit was a bit aggravating especially since no one informs you of even an estimated time. However, after seeing the end results I would 100% wait again. Elvis still has a little ways to go, but we are so thankful for the staff at CVS. We were able to visit every day and could stay as long as we wanted. The rooms are a bit chilly so I would bring a sweater. Thank you staff and doctors for saving my baby!

There is truly not much good that can be shared when losing a precious member of one's Family. What I can share about Carolina Veterinary Specialist and Lauren V. Powers, DVM, DABVP is there complete and truly appreciated handling of Our Papi. Lauren had spent time with Us to share the long-term difficulty Papi would face, after an overnight stay. It is with a heavy heart, the decision that we had to make. It was with the comforting of Lauren that we were truly making the best decision to avoid Him from future suffering. Everyone from the front desk to Lauren made this sad experience as comforting as possible. Thank You Carolina Veterinary Specialists and Laure for their companion. Thank You Papi for the joy You brought to Our Family. You will be missed.

Dr Powers is the Rabbit Whisperer! I'm sure she's great with all 'exotic' animals, but we are so impressed with how she interacts with our bunnies and the care she provides. Thanks!

These guys have an avian specialist that looks after my chickens and I really appreciate her. She is giving me a lot of insight that I haven't been able to get anywhere else. I love each and every one of my chickens and they are all pets and just finding this lady was a blessing.

I would give negative stars if possible. We were taken to a room immediate upon arrival. So, we had high hopes! However 3 hours later, no one had been in to even check that the cat was alive and stable. We then found out that "because your pet isn't dying" that we wouldn't even get to see the vet, we would be seen by a technician. There was only one, and they didn't know when they would get to us. "We will get to you when we get to you," was actually said. The apathy was incredible!! My pet would've died if he'd been bleeding internally. Stay away from this "emergency hospital". I understand being a busy ER and being short staffed, but you should communicate with your patients!!

Drove 1 hour to put my dog down, waited 2 hours in the parking lot, went inside to ask how long it might be and the lady said 3 to 4 more hours. Dog died in the car.

The staff had the personality of a slug. Having to put our beloved pet down is hard enough but when you're treated like a number, it makes it harder Worse is that nothing was said about wait times or how long we would be there. 20 minutes in the exam room and the clerk hands my wife the paperwork. The very first thing that i noticed was that the wait time could exceed 6-8 hours! So i asked the clerk about it and she went to the back..... she then told me it would be at least 4 hours. I asked if we could come back. No . At this point i called another vet across town. 30 minute wait and for a lot less money, Diesel gets a full exam to see if there are options. This place was 125 bucks just for the needle I've heard rumors about the staff mis treating people and being ridiculously high priced. That rumor is now confirmed. I'll never consider this heartless place again.

Wish I could give 0 stars. Very bad communication. They made us wait 6 hours!!! And barley helped. My dog has tumors and we needed an Emergency X-ray. Obviously they don’t understand what Emergency means since they didn’t even care to rush to help us!!! Do not go here if you have an emergency!!!!!

Why even have a publicly listed number? After an experience like this, do you really expect me to waste my time calling your other locations? After telling me they do see the exotic I have and quoting a price, my interaction when something like this cvs:"we're at capacity" me: "that's fine, how do I make an appointment?" cvs: "You can't" me: "ok, wait list?" cvs: "No" me: "So how do I get my pet in to see you?" cvs: "You go to one of our other locations" me: "thanks" ::click:: I called you because you're the closest emergency vet. Maybe check the computer and tell me which location can see my pet? Why not tell me how to get in whatever que you have. Some sliver of a hint at how the heck I get my sick animal in the door would be great.

Dr. Clipsham was very attentive and through with my dog and really went above and beyond to get to the bottom of what was going on. We struggled to diagnose the problem as my dog had many different symptoms and nothing was really fitting into place, but Dr. Clipsham was determined to help make my dog feel better. He even called the next day to check on him and suggested coming back for another look. I am beyond thankful for the assistance and attention my dog got this weekend despite the clinic being busy.

Had an emergency issue with our cat who had belonged to my mother before she passed. Unfortunately there wasn't much that could be done. The staff was very friendly and caring. They were very professional through the entire process. Thank you very much to the staff.

Had an emergency today where my bird flew into a ceiling fan and I needed to know whether she’d make it or not , called here and told me they could get me in the next 20 minutes which was what I needed to get there , got checked in super fast and didn’t wait that long for the doctor to come in . Dr. Lauren was very informative and very helpful and asked everything that needed to be asked. Super happy with this place and would recommend dr powers 100% to anyone that had a bird. Super friendly staff and super clean. Offered everything to make sure my baby would be okay . Super happy with the service today

Worse experience ever! Don’t take your pet to this place if it’s an emergency. They told me it would be a 4 hour wait. After 4 hours, I communicated with the person at the front desk who told me the Doctor would see me next that he was doing his rounds. After waiting 5 hours, I communicated again and was told 30 more minutes then after 6 hour wait. I was told another hour wait. My poor dog should not have had to wait this long. I walked out when they said it would be another hour. Worse experience ever!

My dog was spayed October 15th and I took her here a month after her surgery as her primary vet was closed. Her spay incision had been healing wonderfully but all of the sudden that day it looked red, swollen, and inflamed. We waited over 2 hours to be seen all while she was stressed and barking, making her condition worse. My dog had no choice but to use the restroom in the office because we were waiting so long to be seen. We sat in a room with her feces for over 30 minutes, it was only cleaned up once I left the room and asked the front desk for assistance (I could not find cleaning supplies in the room to clean up for myself). Once we were seen, she was taken back and “assessed” for maybe a minute…who knows if she even actually saw a vet. I was told she was fine and this was normal, to just limit her activity. I had no confidence in this diagnosis, but, we’re supposed to trust the professionals…right? Fast-forward a week and a half to today. Her incision looks even worse and actually broke open. I have included a picture to show it is CLEARLY infected. If she was given the proper care it would have never had the chance to get this bad. I followed their instructions and limited her activity but clearly her condition has only worsened. I will be making a longer car ride to another emergency vet for her to receive the proper care she needs. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE for your babies to receive the care they DESERVE!!! This place will never see me again.

Unfortunately we've had to visit this ER several times over the years but I will say it's the only one we want to go to if we're going to have to go. Very friendly staff, knowledgeable doctors, and a very clean facility. We'll continue to use this as our emergency clinic

The team at Carolina Veterinary Specialists saved my dog's life. I am so thankful that during a complete emergency I randomly took him here in a panic, because I can't possibly imagine any other vet keeping him alive for me. He spent two weeks in the dog ICU, and the staff at this hospital were so accommodating to both him and me. I was allowed to come sit with him every single day, the doctors always contacted me with updates when promised, and they helped me make an informed decision to continue treatment and not put him down. Ghost has been out of the hospital for two weeks now, and is completely back to his normal self. THANK YOU FOR KEEPING MY BEST FRIEND ALIVE! Thank you Dr. Royer!!!

Our sweet kitty Jack had a medical emergency. He was well cared for and had a very smooth surgery. They even let his brother max come inside and hang out with us while we waited. We checked on Jack every year and the staff was so attentive and kind. Our friend ended up having a medical emergency at the same tome we did and we felt so confident telling him that his pup, and my sweet fur nephew, would be well taken care of. We will stick to this hospital for any emergencies, bur fingers crossed we never have to come back. Thanks for the amazing care of us and our kitty!!!

Very grateful for the care of my elderly Italian Greyhound and the compassion shown to my son last week. My husband and I were out of town and our pet had a minor crisis. They took care of the dog and worked with my son explaining what happened and how to handle any future episodes. Thank you

So: brought a pet in late at night, preparing to put him down after several end-of-life indications that evening. Though mentally preparing to do so, we were not asking for euthanasia and wanted the doctor to confirm if this was the only option left at this point. We were given euthanasia consent forms immediately, which was shocking to the dog's owner and increased tensions and stress. I will not complain about the wait time, we were seen very promptly (though we were told a little sharply that they were purposely accommodating us, as if it was our fault for having a late night emergency). Finally, the doctor who saw our pet and ultimately made the call that he had passed, was.....strange. He talked constantly about his experience and was relating it to that of others in the room....as the euthanasia was being performed. All we wanted was to look into our baby's eyes as he passed and the vet was talking through the entire thing. I understand the temptation to distract people from pain but that is not his job. I honestly felt that he intruded on a very private and devastating moment, and I will always have to live with that memory being tainted by the doc. He also took about 30-40 seconds to leave the room after the pet had passed to continue to talk. The second he left we screamed and cried after holding in all that pain for the whole X minutes the procedure happened. I did not get to look into my pet's eyes as he passed, nor weep as he did so, nor comfort him, because I was busy listening to the doctor's resume and his own opinions. It was not his day, but our baby's, and that was stolen from him.

We are very new residents of this state, and since we own Guinea pigs, we asked for suggestions for a vet in the area that works with exotics. Dr. Powers and the CVS were highly recommended to us. Just last week, our nearly 8 year old male Guinea pig appeared to be suffering, so we had to make the sad decision to put him down. We called the clinic and were told to come right away. Our precious Jiggles was handled with such gentleness and compassion in his final moments by Dr. Powers and staff, and they allowed us to be with him during the procedure and explained everything that was being done. We had no idea of the extent of Jiggles's physical ailments, but as Dr. Powers examined him under sedation, her magnificent expertise was apparent and we knew beyond a doubt that we were making the correct decision. We are so grateful to Carolina Veterinary Specialists for helping these newcomers through a very difficult time with such care and patience.

The specialist part of the facility did well with my chinchilla in his last days, in which I truly appreciate. However, the ER for exotic animals is nonexistent. I live two hours from the facility. The first bad experience I had was about half a year ago, a day when the exotics emergency vet was working. I got there around 8 PM with a guinea pig with hay poke. Waited until 5 AM for them to tell me they couldn’t see him, and to take him back the following day. So I drove home, dropped him off and went into work. Got off work, picked him up and told them I was on my way, in which they said they could not see him. Ended up taking him to a local cat and dog clinic in which he was treated within 20 minutes. I understand COVID and short staffed as I have worked in a medical facility, so I figured despite the frustrations it wasn’t the facility’s fault. Fast forward to yesterday, I fill out the emergency same day client form online and bring my elder guinea pig in, who has been reduced to mostly force feeding in the last 72 hours, has labored breathing and is seemingly on his last leg so to speak. I get there and call the number, in which I am turned away because he is an exotic. Again, I understand with Covid things have been crazy, but it would’ve been nice for the website to specify that they are not seeing exotics on an emergency basis, due to them being the only NC clinic specializing in them and the fact that if they’re unavailable out of state travel is necessary. When I had my chinchilla with dental/heart issues (last year during the peak of Covid) I never had a problem with neither the specialist nor the emergency department, which is why I didn’t want to give a totally botched review.
