So grateful for the kindness and compassionate care our beagle Opie Taylor received at Happy Tails. He was in severe pain from a broken leg on New Years Day and badly needed IV pain medication throughout the weekend. Many thanks to Dr. LaVine, Amy (vet tech); Nanette and a few others for whom I didn‘t catch their names. I would definitely recommend!

Does NOT deserve to be called an emergency vet. We showed up at 3am this morning with my sick dog and the staff was very rude. Was told it would be an hour wait, after 5 hours and multiple check ins about the wait time we had to drive all the way to Winston to a Vet who actually would see my dog. My dog got worse and ended up passing within 30 minutes of arriving at the new vet. At this time we STILL had not heard from these people. You’re suppose to help animals in the case of an emergency and you did not. I understand being short staffed but a vet tech was suppose to call us to see what was going on so they could decide if they needed to start tests and that never happened. Then we were told the Vet was finishing a procedure and would be out soon, 1.5 hours later we were told the vet was actually in another procedure and had multiple more. If this would have been communicated from the beginning we could have found my dog help. The night staff from this morning were horrible and just told us lies. Very disappointed and completely heartbroken.

I brought my very sick dog to the clinic and arrived at 3 am. I was told I would have to wait in the car with my sick dog and sign in online. The link didn’t work so had to call back in to register. At that time I was told it would be about an hour before my dog could be seen. After an hour and a half I called back and was told it would be another hour. After an hour I called again and was told it would be at an hour or longer. I finally ended up taking my dog who is now sicker to Winston where she was taken right in. I have yet heard from these people and it is now over 5 hours since I arrived there. This is definitely NOT an emergency vet.

We had taken our Min Pin in on Christmas night. She was at the end of life. They took the best care of her and us. So grateful that they had patience with us and allowed us to have time after she passed. I would highly recommend this establishment. They made a difficult time a little easier.

So what led me here was sad. My loyal forever friend 11 year old German Shepard Blaze needed to rest. At first I complained about the wait and prices but in the end would recommend and value the exceptional experience that was given to me. Excellent, Excellent, Excellent! They truly made this special & thoughtful experience. They gave my family and I time to say good-bye and were gentle and informative when they administered the euthanasia. Had him cremated (lots of love and thought was put into this presentation and process) For that I say Thank You! Many Blessings ~ Mia

We highly recommend Happy Tails, our cat scared us Thanksgiving morning and we had to rush her to a vet. Since it was a holiday, her primary vet was closed. We took her to Happy Tails, they came out and got her right away. They were very communicative and made sure she had all the care she needed

Dr. Thomas was stellar in her service, provided high quality care and compassionate. She has found her true calling and talent! It is extremely challenging for veterinarians to tell owners tragic news. Plus, owners have to pay hefty unexpected fees. I can not express my gratitude towards Happy Tails and Dr. Thomas. Good people are rare and Dr. Thomas is a true diamond the in rough. She will always be remembered as the BEST vet in North Carolina. Thank you is an understatement. Would highly recommend. You Rock Dr. Thomas

Where do I begin with these people. My dog was dropped off here after being attacked by a much larger dog. They took her in without letting us into the waiting room or speaking to a vet which I get because of covid but i was told after that I would be called by the vet and hours went by with nothing. The vet then calls and tells us that she needs to be taken to cary because they have a surgeon ON CALL (the only one between Greensboro and cary apparently) then we get to cary and we’re told they don’t have a surgeon on call and the dogs wounds were not severe enough to call the surgeon, they are “superficial”. Which to be told by the vet at happy tails the dogs colon was punctured and she needed surgery asap. The staff is also rude, we came to pick the dog up (the dog that at the time we thought needed a time sensitive surgery) we spoke to the woman through the door that we were here for bailey and she would not even acknowledge us until we called TO SAY THE EXACT SAME THING. And then had to wait 30 minutes for them to bring her out again with us under the impression she needed a time sensitive surgery. Also should I mention all of this happened at from 8-1am

Why can’t you give information about a wild bird I took to you? You can’t say if he went to a wildlife rehabber or if he didn’t? Or if he died? The only explanation is you don’t give out that information? Inhumane. I care about that animal. Why do you care that others care?

Had to take my cat to get him examined, his back legs stopped working and after blood tests And xray our bill came out to a wooing 800 dollars for 2 hours in this place. They suggested to leave our pet over night for another 2200 how crazy is that. Then they wanted us to have our cat examined by an mri machine for 5k who is rich enough to pay that much. 800 dollars is a bit much I should have taken my pet to my regular veterinarian for 300 dollar visit which is also a bit much for me. At the end my cat is still sick and we are out of $800. Beware of their hidden fees. Don’t go here unless your wealthy, understaffed, pricey, no hell at all.

It’s been a while since this experience but I took my old dog into this vet; they misread a kidney infection as a bad splenic tumor on the x Ray. They got her comfortable and I went to put her down at my primary vet the next day based on their recommendations. Upon seeing her, my primary vet decided to look closer at her records and to get additional x rays. Her condition was 100% treatable with antibiotics. Happy tails called me the next day to make sure I put my dog down. I didn’t ask for any money back but just explained the misdiagnosis to them. They accused my primary vet of lack of care. My primary vet received a CERTIFIED LETTER threatening to sue him and accusing him of malpractice. This place is UNBELIEVABLE. They should be ashamed. Guess what happy tails?! My dog lived an additional 4 years comfortably. And when she finally did go, it was from kidney failure, not a splenic tumor ;).

Thank you Dr. Gebhardt for saving our boy! Our 2 year old Great Dane was acting a little under the weather for several days and then all the sudden he crashed. Turns out he was experiencing an Addisonian Crisis that could’ve been fatal without the quick care provided by Dr. Gebhardt and the amazing team at Happy Tails. They were able to get him through the night even though it was rocky and we were able to transfer him to Carolina Veterinarian Specialists in Winston Salem the following morning where they were able to confirm that our boy had Addison’s Disease and start the hormone replacement therapy. He improved so fast after receiving the hormones. We went from thinking our baby was going to die on a Sunday to being able to take him home on a Tuesday!! Even though he’ll have to be on hormone replacement therapy for the rest of his life, I’m so so grateful that this disease is treatable and we will get more time with our boy. Thank you again for giving us this gift!!!

All support staff and Dr. Barnes at Happy Tails were extremely patient and very thorough with explanations of processes. They were very gentle and had a calming presence with my 13 year old dog Henry when they brought him in to examine. Ultimately I decided it was time and best to euthanize. In this difficult time, the staff was supportive and consoling and in every step for his comfort and ours. I know Henry was peaceful and it was very reassuring to know he was being treated with great care and dignity. Thank you for the compassion you show animals and their families in these hard situations.

I have been to two other vets, one being an emergency vet, just for them to barely help me, and my pups problem reoccuring, so i brought him to Happy Tails Vet, and they were the B E S T. all the staff who helped me were so understanding, and were completely open and honest! The best i have ever witness. It got the point where i was int he parking lot in tears from how amazing they were with not only my dog , but with me. If i could give them a high rating i would!

Do not take your pet here. There is a shortage of being able to get dogs seen right now. I took my dog here in tears trying to figure out what is wrong with her. They kept her for hours! I had to call them to see if they had figured out what was going on. They just used big words to tell me they had no idea. I then had to take her to another emergency vet (I would highly recommend you visit after hours veterinary emergency clinic) just to get the right diagnosis. Don’t waste your time or money going to this place!

We are in no means out of the woods yet, but our sweet girl, Molly was taken care of so well after she was bitten by a mystery snake. This girl is one of our babies and we could not imagine anything happening to her. I am so grateful to Happy Tails for keeping our girl and treating her so well. I just hope she continues to recover quickly. And as much as the staff of Happy Tails were great to work with, I really hope I never have to see them again. Thank you for helping my baby girl, I’m sure she will be her happy self very soon because of you all.

Took my dog in due to back pain, they took amazing care of her, kept her over night, she’s doing much better, although they couldn’t give us a definite diagnosis, they suspect she has a slipped disc, staff was informative and awesome, upfront about cost, although any emergency vet is going to be expensive was definitely not expecting to drop 2 grand. the only con was the price

This place charges TONS, is incredibly busy and only staffs ONE doctor at a time. They should be ashamed of themselves. No animal, including my 12 year old dog, should have to wait 10+ hours in a kennel while ill to get care. Their "we're understaffed" excuse is pathetic and has always been the case here, pandemic or not. To the owners-you aren't understaffed, you're just greedy.

I don’t typically write reviews, but I felt like I had to after our last experience. We’ve been to Happy Tails for our other pets before and had good service from nice folks. This last time was a whole lot harder because we had to say goodbye to our beloved dog. From the moment I called to say we were there, the staff was calm and kind. I was a ball of stress and they helped me feel like my dog was in good hands. I couldn’t go in because of covid precautions (which I understand), but they were excellent about communicating. I am so sorry that I don’t remember the vet’s name but she was incredible. She delivered bad news directly and compassionately. I didn’t have to try and read between the lines or make guesses. She patiently answered all of my questions and was very kind when we came back to say our goodbyes. The whole staff was wonderful. The prices were very reasonable and they were really good about checking in before adding any extra cost. We will always be grateful to Happy Tails for being so wonderful during such a terrible time.

This emergency clinic is AWFUL!! I feel they are in business to collect as much money as possible on your credit card without doing much of anything to help your pet. In early July 2021 I took my cat to Happy Tails because my regular vet was closed on the weekend. My cat had refused food and water for over 2 days. During intake, I notified the staff that I was worried about dehydration and requested that my cat be given fluids as soon as possible. After 5 hours, I still had not received a call with a status update and called to check on my cat. I was told I had to wait for a return call from the vet. Two hours later (7 hours after I brought my cat in) I received a call from Dr. Gebhardt who told me about a long list of tests that she performed on my cat. She told me there was a chance he might have kidney failure and she recommended he stay for 4 days for "observation." I asked her if he had received any fluids and she said 'no' and that I would have to authorize that for another $175 on top of the $625 my credit card had already been charged for my cat to be seen. She couldn't explain why she needed my authorization for fluids but not for the 10+ tests that had already been performed. When I told her I could not afford a 4 day stay, she told me that I should think about "putting him down"!!! I told her I wanted to pick up my cat ASAP and authorized fluids to be given subcutaneously. She made me feel very intimidated and said I would have to sign a release against her recommendation for him to go home. I picked up my cat 2 hours later and saw no evidence of a raised area between his shoulder blades where the fluids were supposed to have been injected. I was also charged $825 for services supposedly provided. When I brought my cat home, he seemed very drugged. He laid in front of his water bowl and drank water very slowly for over 20 minutes because he was so dehydrated. I am convinced that if I had left him in Dr. Gebhardt's care and not insisted on fluids that he would have died. He is now doing fine after a few days of rest at home. He clearly does not have kidney failure but just had a temporary illness of some sort. I do not typically post reviews but was truly shocked by the horrible treatment my cat received, the amount I was charged, and the way that Dr. Gebhardt took advantage of me in a vulnerable situation. No pet owner should have to go through this type of experience. Do not take your pet to Happy Tails because you will not be very 'happy' with the way they do business and treat your pet.

Our Jack Russell Scout stepped on a large fishing lure last Saturday & in trying to get it out of his paw he also hooked his mouth and neck. There was nothing that we could do to remove the large treble hooks so we took him to Happy Tails. They did a terrific job in removing all of the hooks without leaving a scratch on him. The following day he was back to normal ready to play ball again.

I had to put down my elderly cat Elly, the staff were wonderful to me and Elly and they were nice enough to make me multiple paw prints of hers and even nose prints when I had asked. I used to work in the vet field for 4 years, wait time and prices are a complaint everywhere but thank you for the staff that shows up and in an emergency setting at that. A lot of people don’t understand the behind the scenes of caring for their pets but I appreciate happy tails reception staff, vet techs and Drs

My chihuaha Tigger started getting sick and losing weight drastically, he would eat off and on but was still drinking water, then he suddenly stopped all of the above. Taking him to the vet wasn't a option until the next day and I didn't want my fur baby to suffer so I called Happy Tails. From the start, the receptionist was very friendly and after explaining the situation, I decided to put him down, I filled out the form that was sent via text and sent my husband on the way with my fur baby because I was too distraught to go. After about a hr of waiting, my husband called me to tell me Tigger passed in his arms while waiting. I'm a health care professional so I understand the triage process, other dogs were seen because they had a chance at survival and my fur baby was too far gone so I wasn't mad at the wait. I called them and reported he passed and they set up after care for my fur baby and I just received his remains today. He was boxed beautifully and came with a engraved paw print. I am forever grateful for the way that Happy Tails treated my fur baby. Thank you so much

First off, I am writing this review as someone understanding the meaning of triage but also under the impression that at an emergency hospital should treat each patient as an emergency. Unfortunately, my experience here left us feeling like less than a priority. And to be clear, after reading other reviews concerning the pricing of emergency care, money will never be an issue when it comes to my babies health. I became concerned this morning when my 9 year old pit started having a horrific sounding cough, mostly a dry hack but also coughing up white foam. But non stop, to the point he was breathing irregularly. I called Happy Tails and spoke with a vet tech who immediately determined he has kennel cough due to the fact that he had recently been to his regular vet for routine checkup and shots and could have been exposed to a virus. After being given some advice and options, I did some research and decided I would rather be safe than sorry being that my dog is a senior and already experiences respiratory issues. I called again to discuss being seen today. I was told to come immediately, park in employee parking and call upon arrival and to expect to be there for an average of 2 hours. I was asked for an estimated arrival time and said I was an hour away, coming from Reidsville. My baby coughed and spit up foam and undigested food the entire hour long ride there. We called to announce our arrival, at this point we haven't been given any wait time but told that someone would be out to get him when ready and I'm still assuming they are treating this as an emergency. After about 20 mins in the parking lot, the vet tech (same one that diagnosed him over the phone) calls my cell to tell me that there was a four hour wait. Mind you- im extremely concerned for my baby as he is still struggling to breathe, continuously coughing and constantly vomiting puddles of white foam, he and I are both anxious already. She tells me to try another vet. Okay, so I call the recommended vet and I am told it would be an even longer wait, making me increasingly concerned about when and where had time to help my baby. My boyfriend- who is with me the whole time and is trying to help- calls happy tails one more time to voice his concerns for our dog and is told that we were mistaken, that someone would see us in less than 30 mins and that a doctor would contact us within 4 hours after he is examined (?) So, we continue to wait until the vet tech calls again to say that we were previously misinformed and the wait time is, in fact, 4 hours before anyone would see us. Distraught, we frantically reach another vet who takes one look at him coughing and struggling to breathe and she literally sprung into action, taking him in for an exam without wasting another minute- starting with xrays to rule out serious issues in his lungs or trachea. Luckily, the x-rays came back clear and she administered a cough suppressant which had almost immediate results as he started breathing regularly and stopped coughing. He was diagnosed with bronchitis and inflammation, she let us take him home after offering to keep him overnight simply to monitor his cough. We decided to bring him home and monitor him there. She sent us home with antibiotics and steroids but most importantly we left with peace of mind in knowing our baby was cared for properly. In summary, I never saw a doctor or stepped foot inside Happy Tails but it is my entitled opinion that there is a huge lack of communication between employees for us to have been given misinformation and displays of unprofessionalism practiced at this location. Maybe if the vet tech had been concerned about his ability to breathe, whether he had "non life-threatening kennel cough" or not, we would have been treated more like a priority. The two stars are for the extremely polite receptionist.

*PLEASE READ* On 5/28/2021 I brought my cat here, because our regular vet was booked. I spoke with the receptionist before I did the paperwork and I explained what was going on. I told her that the cat was sneezing and had a watery eye it may be a respiratory infection that’s why I’m bringing her. She had to call me back I guess after she talked to the vet just to tell me that they had to up the charge to see her cause of the contagiousness of the situation , ok fine. They charged 160, I paid. They took my cat and I waited out back for 3 hrs when I was the first person there. So I finally called and it was said to me “ oh no one has called you yet?, the vet is on the phone and will call u soon”. Ok fine. She calls and tells me that my cat was aggressive and she was unable to do an exam because they were unable to get close to her, ok I understand, she also told me that my situation (from what she could tell) was not an emergency situation and should be taken care of by the primary vet! She also gave me all these hypothetical situations that they would have had to put the cat to sleep to find out if they were going on, but it’s basically no emergency, and no examination except what we already discussed before I handed my cat over. I asked since you didn’t do anything by what was told to me by the vet why was I not called before 3 hrs and why did no on call me and say well we couldn’t do anything with your cat can u pick her up. Or even better, sir this is not considered an emergency situation and it usually clears up on it’s on and maybe you should wait to take her to ur regular vet. They could have told me all this with the exception that my cat was aggressive because I know they didn’t know that til she was inside, before they swiped my card for 160 dollars. I asked them if they knew all this before and I was told no by at least 3 people and I know they knew it was nothing to be done because they knew the symptoms first and diagnosed her before she even went in and EVEN charged for it. So I just count it as a loss because they were not willing to take off any money or have consideration for my time, when If u can’t touch the cat why was she there for three hrs. This was my experience, and I just want it to be known to patrons that this how YOU do business and to the business yes you Happy tails emergency vet. That you guys need to take consideration of these negative reviews that are all similar and make some changes for the betterment of your business. I understand you can’t make everyone happy but u can TRY a little harder!!! Oh my name is Preston Crenshaw.

Horrible service and very overcharged. I will NEVER bring my car here again. I was so angry at my husband for even paying for nothing. They did absolutely nothing and had my husband waiting for 3 hours to tell us “they couldn’t do nothing because she was aggressive” so why the heck was we charged almost $200 and they charged us before they even looked at her. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE!!!
