Guilford County Animal Shelter is a great place to work if you have a love for animals and work well with BOTH dogs and cats, not one or the other. There are some great people who work and that have worked there, but unfortunately upper management has ruined the experience for a lot of people. Between the directors not being present, a HUGE lack of respect and care from both Dirctors and the lack of communication from upper management it definitely made it difficult to work there on a daily basis. The animals do Not seem to be high priority to them, that seems to go to things such as community events, paying for unnecessary things such as having trucks and trailers wrapped. Hardly any of the donations meant go to the shelter do, instead they go to an off site building and goes out to meals on wheels which is a good program BUT the shelter needs these items as well. The Vet Technicians that are there are amazing and don't seem to be appreciated as they should be. Hopefully one day the county will take in all the complaints made by staff and do something to change that especially finally being in a clean new facility.

They don’t like to answer the phone you have to call several times just to get an answer or some time you get no answer at all

Have so many pets available. Called numeriys times and never get an answer. Not only is it frustrating trying to get in touch with someone. How about the numerous pets suffering cause they could be in a forever home if get answer.

I will be forever grateful to GCAS for helping the many animals that have become members of our family. They have certainly changed our lives and provide an endless source of happiness and love. We know they are grateful, too.

I just adopted a cat here, and I have adopted here in the past. I am giving it a 3 star because the address on the gps is messed up & they do not pick up the phone. If you look up 926 Guilford College Road, it will lead you to their new facility. It is a resource center and the building is black. They also need to pick up their phones or have more office staff available.

Adopted a dog from here two years ago named Charlie. He is such an amazing dog I still can’t believe some awful person gave him up. Great place to find pets that really need love. Update 3 years later Charlie is still amazing.

I would expect much better experience from an organization like this one. My dog was lost and picked up, then taken to the animal shelter here. Unfortunately, due to neglect of answering the phones and being hung up on 3 times. My dog had to spend the night 2 nights there. Not only did they hang up several times. They refused to let me pick him up with in minutes of them closing, making him spend another night. My dog was terrified and they wouldn’t allow me to take him home. After having horrible customer service, they required me to pay $85 for my own dog. This is inconsiderate for a scared owner. The last straw was they didn’t allow us to get his collar back that he was picked up in. I’m so disappointed in an organization that is here to do what is best for the pets but they did the complete opposite.

DON’T TAKE ANY ANIMALS HERE my dog was in quarantine here because he bit our neighbor. after two weeks of dodging my calls, never returning them, and giving me false hope that i could bring my dog back home they euthanized him with no warning. he was in there for two weeks surrounded by strangers and scared out of his mind. he died without seeing any of his family. i specifically said i wanted to visit him before anything happened because he has anxiety and i just knew he was going to be hard to get along with since he is very skeptical of strangers. i am disgusted with how they handled my dogs care and i would NOT recommend this place EVER.

We adopted the cutest sweetest dog for our family. He blends in so well with what our family needed. We are very surprised he had been returned to the shelter within 6 months of his previous adoption... and complaint marked as not housebroken... when he certainly is. He's the perfect dog... really soft coat and somehow doesn't get dirty and bring in leaves... He loves us and the rest of our family and is energetic. I could not ask for a better dog... Unusual things... marked as having rabies shot from last time he was in the shelter, but the shelter did not mail us the rabies tag. We had to go get a tag and they just gave us a brand new rabies tag number. Also marked as unknown info, but had a birth date... so seems information is hidden, but really available. Also when driving by the shelter, the dog that had been in this jail / shelter TWICE barks wildly... he despises this place. Update: Dawson crossed the rainbow bridge

I appreciate everyone who helps take care of animals in need. These animals cannot speak for themselves and they are lucky to have a place where they can be looked after properly.

No better place to go on National Dog Day. We came home with a new family member. There are so many beautiful dogs and cats there to see and the staff was friendly and helpful.

My wife made an appointment to see a puppy, but they adopted out the puppy before she had a chance to see it, and without even notifying her at all.

My cat has been missing for 2 weeks so I went by today because I thought I saw her on their website. Everyone was super friendly and patient with me- looking not only at the one I came to see but also checked if there were any others matching her description in residence. I really appreciated their kindness and willingness to help. Thank you!

I got my first cat here and I dont regret it. The staff are EXTREMELY friendly and the whole adoption process was really easy. Unless the vet's busy or the pet you want isn't neutered yet, you could have a new pet in about 45 minutes. I'd say they have a pretty good cat selection and the dogs arent bad either. I loved my experience and I'd recommend this to anyone who wants a new pet.
