My cat was diagnosed with diabetes last year. For 3 months, they tried to find the proper insulin levels for him, only going up to 5-6 units max, then switching insulin to a more expensive bottle, 100$+ per bottle. The doctor did not want to exceed 5-6 units for health concerns. Meanwhile my cat continued to lose weight, dropping from 18.5 pounds to 14 pounds. It was clear my cat was not feeling right as you could just see the difference in his body and behavior. During this time, they robbed me blind and got into my pockets taking advantage of the fact that I had a newly diabetic pet. Every two weeks 200$+ to test his blood sugar levels and running other tests only to tell me it was too high, but didn’t want to increase the insulin. Prescription food that was expensive that he just never liked, waste of money. It got to the point where the vet hinted that there was nothing that could really be done to help him and suggested I may want to put my cat down if he continued down this path of losing weight and didn’t show progress by Halloween. She even went as far as explaining the process for how this is done over the phone. Very traumatic. This experience was mentally and emotionally draining for me and my wife and could have been handled differently. I’m so thankful I moved to New Jersey because the new vet recommended an at home blood sugar unit which saved me a lot of money and within a few weeks we found out that my cat needed 11 units to regulate properly, something Dr Pugliese doesn’t do. I was never informed of an at home unit because I was an easy 200$ for a blood sugar panel every 2 weeks. I spent unnecessarily thousands of dollars at Eltingville. $45 to weigh the cat, meanwhile the new vet did this for free. In short, had I continued seeing the vet here my cat would be dead. Thankfully, He put his weight back on and is healthy and living a good life with the time he has left. I would not recommend this place to anyone, in fact I’ve shared my story with a few co workers and friends just to make sure they go elsewhere.

Took my dog to get a bandage change and according to dr Victor, it’s “protocol” to sedate dogs for bandage changes. I was never told before or after that my dog would be given or was given morphine. I only found out after I called because my dog was out of it. It took 6 days for Dr. victor to finally return my call and let me know that that’s HIS “protocol” and that “it is what it is”. He also threw all blame on the receptionist.

Edit: I got one phone call after his biopsy with results and a prescription food. I tried to contact someone by phone and email for refills of his meds and prescription food, and never got a response. He also didn't respond well to the food. I had to go elsewhere and the new place never received his record from this vet. My cat has been on a grain free diet since May 2020, and the new vet said he never needed a biopsy bc what he has is an obvious form of dermatitis. In hindsight, I should have gotten a second opinion before spending almost $1000 at this practice. Wonderful, caring, and patient. The world is a mess right now. Our cat Obsidian got really sick last week, and we were terrified that we wouldn't be able to get him seen. They let us come in the next day. He had his biopsy today and was given meds. Obsidian was treated so well and I am happy to report that he is feeling so much better. Dr. Pugliese and her team made what could have been a very stressful and scary situation and made us feel comforted. Whatever the results of the biopsy, we trust that our boy has the best care possible.

Dr. Pugliese is absolutely wonderful. She shows with ever visit that she actually cares about your pet. Most importantly she is a great Doctor. She knows her stuff. Also, which is important as well each and every staff member I’ve encountered has been kind and helpful each step of the way.

Best vet on the island. You'll pay the big bucks but you get what you pay for. Place is clean and staff is friendly.

Look no further. Dr. Pugliese and her staff saved my puppy and gave him a brand new life. Gatsby was so sick and had multiple health issues that we didn’t know about when we got him from a pet store. Dr. Pugliese turned that boy into the most healthier and beautiful dog we can ever hope for. She had been our only and ONLY vet that will ever touch our babies for the past 4 years. Dr. Pugliese and her staff are nothing but professionals, friendly, personable, knowledgeable, accommodating, lovely, kind, caring and the list goes on. She will treat your pet as if it’s her own. I truly appreciate everything they do and we are so great full for them. Thank you.

It’s hard to single out only one good person at EVP. Everyone there works together as a team to take care of your pet and whatever their needs are. I would recommend Eltingville Veterinary Practice to anyone that loves their “best friend.” If they could speak, they would too. Philip C.

I love this vet very much. If you have a pet with the “C” word or suspect there’s a mass or anything for that matter, you need to bring your pet here. There is no doubt about that. That’s all I will say about that. …

Dr. Pugliese and her staff are compassionate, caring people who I have had the pleasure of bringing my pets to now for a couple of years. They care about them like it's their own family member. Highly recommend.

Dr. Pugliese's skill, kindness and compassion is outstanding. She and her entire staff is above and beyond the best and helped make a very recent heartbreaking decision for us as bearable as possible. We will never forget the kindness and patience showed by all of them to our beloved 'Angel' and ourselves.

Dr Pugliese is the best, she really puts the animals needs first. Our dog Primo suffered with many pancreatitis attacks but she was able to stabilize it and he lives a great life.
