I can’t say enough good things about Dr. Wendel and the staff at Erie Canal Animal Hospital. They are kind, caring people who are just flat out good at what they do. I started off with them what feels like forever ago at Apple Country and followed them over to Erie Canal once it opened. They cared for my cat for 15 years before she passed and I wouldn’t have entrusted her to anyone else. They are simply the best.

My dog is very sick, called them as we are their patient but yet it's been 4 days and no call back called again today and front desk employees are rude and seemed bothered and said they are busy with other patients which is clearly understandable I was just looking for some kind of answer within the 4 days of what I should do as it seems my dog has worsened day by day she won't even stand up as I don't think I should have to bring her into the emergency vet because Dr. Licatta is her doctor which in fact she's been our doctor for 5 years and 10 plus years with our older pets who have passed. I called today since I've heard nothing after 4 days and the front desk people were rude to me saying we have the Dr your messages she will call you back .. I then felt like I was bothering her but yet it's been 4 days since I've received a call back so instead of them actually calling me back after that I received an email to ight at 10 pm stating they are sorry to say this but they can no longer see my dog as a patient.. crazy how this month they've had no issue swiping my credit card for over $3,000. Horrible how any vet facility can treat anyone this way I'm in such shock I would give zero stars if I could seeing that my dog can barely stand up!

Great vet and caring staff ........or so i thought i have been with dr hedi licata for over 10 years ... and i had been calling the last 3 days with no reply....and staff was rude when i called back to ck and see if dr got my messages. I was never called back .. Tonite i recive a email starting that they feel.i need to change vets ....because the girl.that answers the phone thought i was rude even after 3 days of no call back. I was not rude ...but concerned for my pet ...as her condition was worsening and was not getting any return calls or help . Sad that your vet will just let you go on the word of one rude person probably trying to save her job....as inwas alsonwantimg to tell dr licata hownwe were treated over the phone and the sarcastic attitude they had on the phone....

Dr. Wendel is amazing! She is very personable, caring, and intelligent. When you step inside it doesn't feel like you're taking your dog to the vet, it feels more like you're taking them to a friend. I strongly recommend either Erie Canal Vet or Apple Country Vet (Dr. Wendel’s other location).

They are the best, they are very caring and compassionate people. Dr Licata is amazing and always so helpful and takes her time to answer any questions, and Dr Weindle is so nice as well.

My experience here was decent. They saw my daughters Guinea pig for an upper respiratory infection and I guess they took care of her. She's not sick anymore which is great. However due to covid they had us wait outside the entire time and there were lots of hidden fees we were not expecting like 23 dollars to give an 8 dollar shot. Overall the Dr and staff were really nice though.

I brought my dog Beanie here for the first time last week. They were able to squeeze her in when they knew she may have had an ear infection even though she's a brand new patient. I did not go in, I utilized the curbside service. The techs I spoke to were great, asking a lot of questions before the doctor saw her. The doctor seemed really nice on the phone. I read some of the reviews saying it was pricy but for the exam and two medications I found it to be similar to service prices at East Ave Vets in Brockport. (Sidenote, I have no qualms using Brockport, I just now live in Spencerport and this is much easier for us to get to.)

I’ve got a 5 year old Great Dane and we were looking for a new vet. He woke up Sunday morning with a lump the size of a quarter that didn’t bother him on his ear. I called Monday to see if they could take a new dog and they were able to schedule me for Friday because he seemed unbothered. I called back Wednesday morning because now my dog refused to eat, walk, drink, or let me touch his head. They were able to get him in that afternoon, took him on time, did a thorough exam, identified the issue, laid out options and recommendations, gave us medication, and DIDNT RIP US OFF! Emergency service for a new patient at a fair price during COVID lockdowns with an extremely friendly staff. You have a new loyal customer!

Dr.Licotta has been awesome! This is the second time in two years I've been in with my turtle. She has given me great advice and doesn't think it's crazy to bring my turtle in. Thanks!????????

I brought my bearded dragon here to get a wellness check and a fecal test done. All of the staff was super friendly, the prices were perfectly fair, and the wait time was not long. When the Dr called me she gave very good advice and was super nice on the phone. Overall, a great experience and I will be bringing my pet back!

Very helpful and informative. Pricing is a bit higher than other vets I have been to in the past. I don't mind though, as long as my dog is happy and healthy. The second location in Hilton is convenient when this location is too busy.

Erie Canal has taken care of our large dogs for many years. They have a great staff and their Vets are top notch. They truly care for their Animal patients. Great service all the way around.

Took my kitten to get antibiotics for his eye, I felt like they did a lot of un necessary tests I didn't really need to have done, the bill was almost 200 and they never even told me the results of the blood test, was rushed out after they were finished.

Dr. Heidi Aguiar-Licata is extremely knowledgeable in the care and practice of exotic animals. She has treated each one of my chinchillas, both of which required medical intervention for their respective illnesses. She performed a very intricate surgical procedure on one of my chinchillas, and not only did she provide optimal medical care, said chinchilla recovered quickly and returned to his normal, inquisitive behavior in half the amount of time that the textbook research conveyed to its readers. Dr. Licata isn’t only amazing at her job, she is also a wonderful person. She exudes confidence and positive energy that allows the parents of fur-babies to relax. I perceive her behavior as knowing that, no matter what, she will try her absolute hardest to provide the remedy needed to ensure that her patients recover, if possible. While knowing that some injuries and/or conditions can be fatal, I have fortunately evaded such a fate — even when one of my chinchillas fell nearly 40 feet down an elevator shaft after a friend accidentally left open the elevator door. If you have an exotic animal and want to provide said exotic animal with medical prevention and intervention that goes beyond just a simple diagnosis and treatment; medical care that guarantees the utmost satisfaction regarding care, focus, hands-on practice, and respect, then I highly recommend Dr. Licata. When she is providing care to your fur-baby, you and your loved one will receive her full attention — care that feels safe and, because one will surely interpret said care as assurance that her patient is going to be in New York’s best hands, care that allows for total relaxation and trust. Dr. Licata’s favorite area of practice is exotic animals, however, she is also privy to the treatment and care of common domesticated animals. As previously mentioned, I highly recommend her medical expertise if you are searching for the perfect veterinarian to provide your fur-baby with the absolute best medical prevention and intervention. Edit: Some reviewers have described Eerie Canal Animal Hospital (ECAH) as being a great practice, yet expensive. I, however, disagree with their assessments. When compared to the prices I have paid at other veterinary practices, ECAH is much cheaper. I took my gerbil, Lionel, to several establishments following his initial stroke and subsequent strokes. I paid an astronomical amount of money in contrast to ECAH’s prices for my multiple visits there; either for the treatment of an illness or for regular checkups. Even my chinchilla’s surgical procedure, during which Dr. Licata operated on his bladder via an abdominal incision, was as little as a couple hundred dollars cheaper to more than a thousands dollars cheaper when researching other practices for their prices. And, I only researched the prices after telling an out of state friend who works as a veterinarian and subsequent to telling him, I was met hysterical laughter and the response that his practice would’ve charged me more than double that amount. Being a parent to a pet means that you are a loving companion, a provider, and if something happens that causes your fur-baby to become ill, the only person in the world that can help your pet. It may mean that you must cancel your upcoming vacation so that you can pay for a surgical procedure to remove a benign tumor from your pet’s abdomen. Regardless of the required procedure that which will become the remedy for your pet, you made that agreement the day you ‘adopted’ your pet and brought said pet into your home as well as your life. If paying for a visit to the vet is a problem, and your pet is experiencing a potentially life threatening illness, then there’s a number of options you can explore: • Applying for pet care insurance/ pet care credit plan • Using a credit line • Seeking a loan from a friend or a bank, or; • Discuss your financial status with the veterinarian practice and inquire as to whether or not they offer a payment plan. I’m sending positive vibes your way if your fur-baby is sick.
